Joell Ortiz (born July 6, 1980) is a Puerto Rican rapper from Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 17, Ortiz made the decision to pass on both an academic and basketball scholarship to stay in Brooklyn. He was featured in the "Unsigned Hype" column of the March 2004 issue of The Source and was also selected as Chairman's Choice in XXL. During the same time Ortiz also went on to win the 2004 EA Sports Battle which earned his song "Mean Business" a spot on the NBA Live 2005 soundtrack. The same year he was offered a contract to Jermaine Dupri's So So Def label. The deal quickly soured, resulting in bad blood between Ortiz and Dupri. In 2007 he signed to Dr. Dre's Aftermath record label. Joell has since collaborated with KRS-One and Kool G. Rap.Though signed to Aftermath, Ortiz released his debu

The undisputed Hip-Hop rookie of the year heated up the booth yesterday over Jeey’s ‘Go Crazy’ and I ain’t talking about his shirt (that joint is pretty loud though). And if you haven’t heard the brotha’s lastest single ‘Latino’ watch the music video for it here. Joell’s freestyle is after the break. (more…)

Joell bigs up in his hertitage and those of his heritage in his newest music video for ‘Latino’. The track isn’t confirmed as the brotha’s 3rd single off of “The Brick” but since there is a music video for it, its safe to assume it as one. Props to this brotha for shooting these anti-commerical videos, I have yet to see one where this cat isn’t in the streets. The video is after the break. (more…)

The brotha Juganot finally dropped the video for ‘En Why Cee‘ and it kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Its not really the fact that its low budget, I don’t mind that one bit when it comes to music videos, but it seems as if they throw them video hoes in there for the sake of video hoes being there. I mean its obvious what the premise of the video is, realness. So it shows them taggin, opening up fire hydrants illegally which is how it goes down in NYC. But then they just had to throw in 3 sistas wobble wobblin’, I think that just totally compromised the video and the song (but its still a dope track). Check it out for yourself and tell me how you feel about it. (more…)
