Nestling among the pine trees on the edge of the Mediterranean sits the beautiful Port of Cabopino, Marbella.
When I first visited this picturesque Marina in 1985, it really was an oasis of peace and calm, and sitting at the water´s edge surrounded by the woods reminded me of a tropical paradise – virtually undiscovered and untouched by commercialism. My family knew there was great potential here and bought a restaurant on the sea front, which they ran successfully until selling up to buy a hotel 5 years ago.
On leaving the A7 road West bound about 2 kilometres from Calahonda, the road into the port winds down passing lush gardens and cobbled squares to the impressive Marina area. With over 100 luxury cruisers and pleasure boats moored here, this is a fabulous place to wander round and see how the other half live. We were once lucky enough to be invited on a trip to Gibraltar aboard a fabulous 50 metre luxury Sunseeker from here and what a day that was!

We’ve been reporting all week on our midnite bus tour of the historic mid century modern heritage of Las Vegas. The tour was sponsored by the Atomic Age Alliance and the City of Las Vegas Department Of Cultural Affairs. We especially want to thank Richard Hooker for organizing it and MaryMargaret and Cary Stratton for guiding it. Our final stop on the tour was at the Morelli House. It was built on the Desert Inn Golf Course in 1959 by Antonio Morelli, the fabled orchestra director of The Sands. It was moved to the corner of 9th and Bridger and now serves as the offices of the Junior League of Las Vegas.

If Berkeley has a heart, it must be located on the 2200 block of Shattuck Avenue between Kittredge St. and Allston Way. This is the site that Berkeley’s founder, Francis Kittredge Shattuck, chose as his homestead.Although the Gold Rush lured him to California, Shattuck (1824–1898) made his fortune by other means. In 1852, he teamed up with George Blake, William Hillegass, and James Leonard to file a claim on a square mile in what is now central Berkeley.

We arrive in Exuma on a silver-tinted morning with looming clouds. The sun is in hiding; puddles of water spot the runway at the little airport signaling an early rain. Side-stepping the puddles we walk towards the covered path on the side of the airport and into the welcomes of a group of smiling women — representatives from the Exuma Tourist Office.
A group of girls, the youngest of them looking about three years old, stand in two rows dressed in black leotards, head scarves and flowing skirts of aquamarine and yellow. They begin to dance as we stand watching in surprise and pleasure. The sun comes out, splitting the pillow of clouds with its rays. The sleepy flight is forgotten. We're in Exuma — the land of the "Rolling Hills."
