With runners in scoring position, he is at .571 (4-for-7) and has driven in two runs. This is what a captain does, he may not be a vocal leader, but on the field, he's as good as they come.Jeter also finds it hard to believe the names he's passing on the all-time hit list: As for going past DiMaggio and having Berra, Mantle, Ruth and Gehrig in his sights, Jeter shakes his head. Jeter Likely To Sit This Weekend
A quadriceps injury can be very problematic, by nature; the New York Yankees know this better than anyone as shortstop Derek Jeter is currently suffering from that malady. Thus far, he has missed four games and is not expected to play at all this weekend. Although Jeter played catch before Friday's game, according to Yankees manager Joe Girardi, it was probably doubtful that Jeter would play before the team left town to play a short series with the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday. Jeter did perform some baseball activities - stretching and playing catch - on the field at Fenway Park; however, the weather in Boston makes a quad injury more difficult to deal with. Even Yankees general manager Brian Cashman says that he expects Jeter for the entire Red Sox series, as well. In the meantime, the Yank

The Yanks With and Without Jeter
Jeter will probably miss a week, but what if he misses more games, what if he had to go on the DL? Is it the end of the world for the Yanks? Probably not. Here's an interesting breakdown of the Yanks with and without Jeter over the years, from Dugout Central: Total Games 1,940 1,173 767 .605 With Jeter Appearing 1,818 1,099 719 .605 With Jeter Starting 1,815 1,097 718 .604 Without Jeter Starting 125 76 49 .608 Without Jeter appearing 122 74 48 .607 I'm certainly not suggesting that the Yankees are better off without Jeter, because they're not. But the Yankees aren't dead if Jeter misses more than a week. So get off the ledge Yankees fans.

Jeter had an MRI and it showed a strain.Derek Jeter was removed from tonight's game in the third with a strained left quad. He ran hard when he beat out a double play ball in the first, but he didn't appear to be in that much pain. He also made a play in the field in the second which he appeared fine on. What If The Astros Drafted Derek Jeter??
What would have happened if the Astros drafted Derek Jeter as Hal Newhouser insisted?? I try to quantify what would, and could, have occurred. Those readers who are even vaguely interested in baseball history undoubtedly know Hal Newhouser. He was a back-to-back MVP as a pitcher during wartime in the 1940s, and is a Hall of Famer (of marginal merit in my view). You can click on the link for his Baseball-reference.com page. After his playing career, Newhouser became a scout, eventually for the Astros. In the lead up to the 1992 draft, Newhouser insisted that the Astros draft Jeter. Newhouser, in fact, apparently discovered Jeter. The Astros passed, drafting Phil Nevin instead. Newhouser was so incensed that he quit. Nevin played 18 games for the Astros, before being traded to the Tigers and having a creditable career. So, what would have happened to the Astros had they drafted Jeter?? Yankee fans will no doubt confirm one of Newhouser's key bits of scouting on Jeter; namely that he was

Take your pick: Jeter vs. A-Rod
I'll be the first to admit that I hate the New York Yankees and almost all of their players, coaches, fans, and affiliates. With the recent rumors of an apparent rift between the two star infielders I thought it would be fun to play a game with it.Ok, so you can only pick one guy and here's the deal. You are starting your own team and can pick one to be your centerpiece. One guy to build your whole team around. Take everything into consideration; I'll go first. My GuyI'm going to take Derek Jeter as my pick. There is no doubt that A-Rod may wind up hitting 500 hrs in his career and has more power to his bat but given the criteria of the game I'm going with Jeter. If I am starting my own team there is possibly no other guy in MLB that I'd rather build my team around than Jeter. Here are some of the reasons that I'd go with Jeter over A-Rod:He's a great leader on and off the fieldGreat defensive player at the heart of the infieldComes drastically cheaperCommands much more respect

ARod-Jeter Break up, Pillow Fight League, Castillo vs Wilson, Chesney Not Gay, Stallone Mullet, Britney's Wig
Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter have broken up. That will be one tricky divorce settlement. If you thought Shawn Chacon was unstoppable last year, just wait until you see his secret weapon in 2007: arthritis. Welcome the newest pro sports organization...the Pillow Fight League. Pittsburgh was rumored to get a franchise, but our local officials can't put together a plan for a suitable Pillow Fighting arena. There's another new league starting up...the Israel Baseball League. The Pirates are predicted to finish last in that league too. Jack Wilson and Jose Castillo met privately to discuss Jack's comments a few weeks back. Jose basically said he doesn't care, and I'm not surprised. I don't think he really cares about much of anything. Ron Cook says PSU basketball is abysmal, but does anyone care? Ron obviously has never met board regular Adam. Dominic Rhodes got a DUI. He put some lives in danger, sure. But the important question is how this will affect the Colts backfield next se

The A-Rod Saga: The Jeter Aftermath...
from the NY Daily News... boy, do I love the NY Press...Well, A-Rod had his mug plastered all over America yesterday, as he affirmed one of baseball's worst kept secrets - he does not get along with Derek Jeter. At this point, he just keeps need to keep his mouth shut and just play ball.I found this quote really weird: "You go from sleeping over at somebody's house five days a week and now you don't sleep over," Rodriguez said. "It's not that big of a deal."But without him, would the sport be any interesting? Anyhow, here's some links "bout A-Rod: The New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/20/sports/baseball/20yanks.html?_r=1&ref=sports&oref=slogin http://www.nytimes.com/2007/02/20/sports/baseball/20chass.html?ref=sports The New York Daily News: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/499166p-420817c.html http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/499165p-420816c.html The New York Post: http://www.nypost.com/seven/02202007/sports/yankees/infie

Quick Hits: Jeter, Bernie and Wrigley Field
Expect a review of the San Diego Padres today at some point, and a few more African-American player profiles. More news from around baseball… Jeter's Turn to Speak: Maintaining they have a fine relationship on the field and in the clubhouse, Derek Jeter resolutely refused to discuss the deterioration of his friendship with Alex Rodriguez away from the ballpark. One day after A-Rod finally acknowledged the pair no longer are best friends, Jeter sat in the same first-base dugout at Legends Field and was asked to respond. Jeter said: "I don't have a rift with Alex," the captain said Tuesday. "We go out there. We work together. This is our fourth year to be playing together. It's annoying to hear about it all the time. Everyone assumes they know what our relationship is. Everyone assumes -- they see us on the field, if one person gives another one a look, it's a story. If we're at opposite ends of the bench, people say it's a story." Who cares - just play ball! This

      Damn that Derek Jeter!
I am just playing, of course. Seriously though, check out this card being sold on eBay. So much for continuity, huh? Of course, if I pulled this card I'd be in heaven (no pun intended). For God sakes, someone hand Jeter a blue sharpie! If you want to see what ...
