As I had reported earlier today, the UFC was looking to pit Wanderlei Silva against Brandon Vera in a light-heavyweight fight at UFC 88, tentatively scheduled for July 19 and to be broadcast on Spike; however, according to Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports, Silva’s people have turned down the invitation, stating that Silva cannot be [...]

I used to be really good at playing along with Jeopardy. Not so much anymore. I think it’s because my brain has slowly become parentalized over the years. I’m convinced that the writers over at Jeopardy are young single folks, because if they were at all like me, the game would play out much differently. It would go a little something like this here game, already in progress...
The three officers who were found "innocent" for killing Sean Bell are in jeopardy of losing their jobs. After the acersosos went home labeled "Free Men" they now face internal charges at work. Each man was accused of firing their weapon outside of NYPD departmental guidelines - a serious offense that could result in an ousting from the force. The Rev. Al Sharpton, who has been active about the in
The answer is: This team today had a pitcher go out and throw 7 2/3 innings of hitless baseball, and wound up losing the game. The question: What is the New York Mets. They found yet another extremely frustrating way to lose today. Mike Pelfrey pitched the game of his career today, getting two outs in the 8th inning before giving up a hit to the Washington Nationals. He would go on to give up a run.
Tracey at Grace Comes By Hearing has tagged me to play along in this meme. Who am I to turn down a tag?
What were you doing ten years ago?
I was relatively newly married and living in California. I spent my days having tea parties, sing-alongs, and marathon Candyland playing sessions with my busy preschooler, Torri. Baby Kennedy occupied
After 3 days of reviewing Family Feud, we actually came across another one of those TV game show based games with the sequel to JEOPARDY! And since I don’t think that Sony Online Entertainment and Newrosoft are very creative with names, they aptly went with the obvious and went with JEOPARDY! 2. Plain and simple, [...]

Under the guise of a run-of-the-mill celebrity game show wherein celebrity contestants appear and donate their winnings to charity, the sketches usually begin at the start of the second round of Jeopardy!, called Double Jeopardy!. The host, Alex Trebek, welcomes the audience and introduces the celebrity contestants, along with their current scores. These are usually deep in the negative, zero (because they've never buzzed in), or a very low positive score, such as $14. Both the host and contestants are played as caricatures of their real-life p
"Are you ready to make some television?"I was a kid in a candy store...no a flippin' candy factory. The Jeopardy College Championship is shooting in Madison this weekend and I attended tonight's taping. My friends Adam, Liz and I arrived at around 6 and because we had VIP tickets (Thanks Adam!) we were routed around the extremely long line and into the Kohl Center. We were told to turn our phones entirely off ( not silent, not vibrate, OFF!) androuted through a security screen. It was almost worse than the airport because there weren't posted signs telling you what to do. There were bottle necks everywhere. We made it through and got to the VIP holding line. After 10-12 minutes we were ushered into the arena. The Kohl Center was outfitted with a gorgeous set that looked like a traditional col
NO ONE does crises quite like the International Cricket Council. From Bodyline to Zimbabwe via D'Oliveira and Packer, cricket's ruling body has demonstrated a knack for fomenting discord and dispute quite beyond the means of any other game. But while several volumes of Wisden could be devoted to cricket's political spats and diplomatic incidents, the fragile confederation of Test-playing nations has until now managed to remain intact, clinging together in the knowledge that apart they would perish. Now, however, it is legitimate to ask whether the ICC can maintain a relevant role in the game.Next Monday the ICC board will gather in Dubai for a meeting that represents a genuine fork in the road. The issues could not be more incendiary. Zimbabwe, the future of the World Cup, the international c

Double taxation is a concern for many organizations. These international organizations can often be subject to two different tax liabilities, which increases the cost of doing business as well as decrease the international opportunities and partnerships that are feasibly possible. Tax treaties are helping free international companies from these limitations and helping to spark more economic growth.Double tax jeopardy can have a huge impact on where companies plan on partnering and conducting business. Russian companies often develop offshore holding companies in Cyprus, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands because of the positive tax treaties (Rose, 2007). These offshore holding companies, which further reduce tax liability, wouldn’t be possible in countries that have not developed treaties n

Several news services today are announcing that Boston-based Fidelity Investments told some of its managers to begin letting employees know of impending layoffs. One report from the Wall Street Journal says that 200 employees could receive their layoff notices today. According to CNN Money this morning, James Lowell, editor of the independent Fidelity Investor newsletter, told the Journal that he’s expecting “the largest number of layoffs Fidelity has made in years.” Back in 2002, Fidelity cut 1,695 jobs, or 5% of its staff.
The situation at Fidelity is part of a growing trend of layoffs in the financial services sector that are taking place on Wall Street and elsewhere in the United States. 140,000 financial services jobs have already been cut in the United States this year, according to Chicago-based Challenger, Gray & Christmas. This number surpasses the previous record of 116,647 pink slips issued back in 2001. Wall Street alone has already lost 42,404 financial jobs
Democrats seem to be lining up in opposition to the nomination of Michael Mukasey as Attorney General. Just a few weeks ago, Mukasey was thought to be breezing through the nomination process. Now? Not so much.Senators Patrick Leahy (D-Vermont), Carl Levin (D-Michigan) and Chris Dodd (D-Connecticut) have all announced their opposition to Mukasey because the nominee refuses to acknowledge the waterboarding is torture (which it is.)I still think Mukasey will be confirmed, but the overwhelmingly confirmation the President wanted is not going to happen now.
By: Alice EndySummer heat waves pose a very real danger to the eldely. Normally, our body controls and regulates elevated temperature by allowing heat loss through the skin and by evaporation. As we age, our ability to control the body's temperature is diminished. Aging causes a decrease in the body's ability to adjust to heat and to sense temperature extremes. The elderly are more susceptible to heat relateddisorders and react to sudden changes in temperaturesby loosing the ability to cool down. Those with the following chronic health conditionsare at greater risk: Heart Disease,Kidney Disease, Lung Disease,Obesity, and Diabetes.Certain medications interfere with the body's ability to control temperature. Not so long ago The Halcyon Co. did obtain rights to the Terminator franchise and also planned on making a new trilogy of films without the previous actors Arnold Schwarzenegger or James Cameron, not only that there is more hot news where there is a big Hollywood legal battle which may prevent the new movie Terminator 4 ever going forward.
The Halcyon Co have moved forward and filed a huge lawsuit claiming that MGM are interfering with their rights to negotiate for the distribution of the 4th film. The lawsuit is saying that MGM are fighting to retain their rights to distribute the 4th Terminator movie and MGM have claimed that they have an exclusive 30 day negotiation window for Terminator 4.

Senator Voinovich, R-OhioLittle George's legacy being in jeopardy is not news. We've known this for some time now, we haven't needed soothsayers to predict that for us. Personally I don't see how it can be salvaged with all that has gone on...been done...with more spin to come. Rove must be sweating bullets trying to come up with some sort of way out of this tangled web he has woven. He may find himself on a stage one day as the skull that Hamlet holds forth as poor Yoric. This may be their summer of discontent...in spades. It seems Voinovich has conversed with the Rovemeister and given a dire warning. Georgie needs to develop a workable plan to withdraw the troops from Iraq as a beginning salvage of is historical presidential legacy. It's the impossible dream by now. The Man from La Mancha cannot tilt at windmills anymore...so what makes people think there's any possibility that George could save a slice of good history for himself. I just don't think so plain and simple. The WH
First things first; Francesc Fabregas has done the honourable thing and decided to stay at a team where the manager, the players and all the fans love him and would all be absolutely distraught at losing him.
He said that he couldn't leave Arsenal in the lurch after Henry had left… does that mean that if Henry didn't leave then Cesc might have gone?
It could be interpreted in many other ways but the way that I see it has just made me feel a whole lot better about losing Henry because I for one would much prefer to keep Fabregas than Henry.
Fabregas is young, has many many footballing years ahead of him and can only improve. Henry peaked and was in a decline… sure he still could offer plenty to us but even Sir Alex Ferguson himself thought Arsene did the right thing by selling him now.
The other topic which is being discussed so much is that the spuds will beat us to the top four… the spuds beat us to the top four?? The press are having a laugh
It is the year 2007, and we have truly entered an era of revolution; a technological revolution that is. That term has been overused to say the least, but it is nonetheless true. Unlike the Baby Boomers and their social revolution of the 1960’s, we are wired, switched on, plugged in, turned on and tuned in, and it has been technological revolution that has made all this possible. We can be better students, workers and employers because technology allows us to stretch our creativity far beyond what our predecessors ever imagined. Because of this, you would think that as a human race, we would be more evolved, smarter, and productive. More importantly, as a human race we must have obtained a higher degree of common sense than all the generations that have preceded us. We would like to think so, but I am convinced that even though we have the added and remarkable benefit of advanced technology, we have lost a great deal of our common sense. This fact has been proven by the action

Jason Giambi used steroids back in the day. He admitted it. His 2oo3 grand jury testimony leaked out, in which Giambi admitted to a grand jury that he used steroids between 2001-2003. He addressed the Yankee fans and media with a sincere apology for the fiasco. Although he never used the word steroids in his public apology, he made it clear that he was guilty of using, and he was sorry. Done. Americans are all about giving second chances, and Giambi got one (which is not easy with NY fans). Time to play baseball. Here's the kicker: in May 2007, Giambi said that steroid use is wrong and that he should have never used them back in the day, and urges the young players not to....In comes the Bill Gates look-a-like, Bud Selig, 'Ah-ha!, Jason Giambi just admitted to doing steroids in the early 2000's." MLB must take action and wreak havoc on Giambi because he said the 'S' word in public. What!? I love baseball as much as anybody, but why does the MLB insist on making a debaucher
The three-game pivotal series of the New York Yankees against the Boston Redsox series will tell us if Joe Torre will be fired or not. Is that fair to say?
The Yankees’s alarm clock is echoing around the sports talk shows today. A rumor that Torre is going to lose his job if his team will not perform well against the Redsox.
With that millions of dollars spent, enough to build four or five new teams in the Majors, the Yankees are expected to win World Series every year. However, destiny was not on their side in the last six years.
Do we have to blame Joe Torre for the inability of the Yanks to match the Redsox? You be the judge.

Funny how things work out, eh? Just last night, on the way home from Crewe Baths with the kids, I looked across the land that has been cleared off Dunwoody Way next to Morrison's. It's the plot that also borders Goddard Street (you know, the part-cobbled one). Well, as we approached the West Street end we passed the LMR club. It's a social club, in the main, but has various teams and associations based there. Moreover, for the sad football ground spotter types amongst you, it has an old wooden stand (see photo). Now we're talking Sunday League type teams here. But what an experience, being able to play where there's a club, proper toilets and a grandstand! Magic, and certainly better than appearing on one of those vast park areas where 20 games kick-off simultaneously. I bet a few of you out there have memories of playing at the LMR pitch? Anyway, back to the plot. I have wondered for some time what would happen to this venue. It's prime for redevelopment, next to the ongoing Gra
I can understand why big super stars like Albert Pujols & Alex Rodriguez might not be the friendliest guys on the planet to the media. I mean, they are written badly about each time they have a slump, don't come through in the clutch, or just aren't in the best ...
