Jeff Jarvis on the UK libel laws
Jeff Jarvis is a director of the interactive journalism program at the City University of New York and a MediaGuardian columnist. He blogs at Buzzmachine and has written an excellent piece about the UK's awful libel laws, which David Cameron or Nick Clegg could win brownie points from the media by repealing, except they are too handy for our political class.

Nets sign Jarvis Hayes, Eduardo Najera
The Nets, who are trying to add players who can be utility players and won’t cost too much, accomplished that this week by signing Eduardo Najera and Jarvis Hayes.  The addition of these two veterans should help to keep them competitive in the weak Eastern conference until more cap space will be open in 2010. A1GP: Jarvis on front row for GBR, Carroll impresses
Ireland’s Adam Carroll, charging hard after finally solving problems with an ill-fitting seat, saw pole position snatched away from him in qualifying for A1GP’s China sprint race. He will start third after being pipped by last-gasp laps by Germany’s Michael Ammermuller - excluded from the results of the previous race in Malaysia for ramming anything that moved - and championship-leading Neel Jani of Switzerland. Team GBR’s Oliver Jarvis could only manage fifth in the sprint qualifying, but will be on the front row for the feature race after setting the second-fastest time behind Jani. Carroll was 13th after a mysterious loss of speed. Yorkshireman Adam Khan, driving for Pakistan, will start 21st of 22 in the sprint but performed better in the feature qualifying, setting the 17th fastest time. Carroll - still technically a rookie - had set the pace during Friday’s practice sessions and was also fastest in Q1 for the sprint. Irish team principal Mark Galla

A1GP: Jarvis hopes to follow up Macau success
Oliver Jarvis will be getting back in the A1GP car this weekend to take part in the series’ Sepang stage - and he’ll be hoping to pull off another spectacular success. The Malaysian races will take place less than a week after Jarvis celebrated a commanding win in the Macau Grand Prix - widely seen as the ‘world cup’ of Formula 3 racing. Jarvis won the second qualifying race to earn a surprise pole position then led almost the entire 15-lap race on the 3.8-mile Guia street circuit - recognised as one of the world’s most testing. He beat several drivers with A1GP experience, including Switzerland’s Sebastien Buemi, who finished 11th, and Germany’s Nico Hulkenberg, who finished a lap down in 23rd. Other A1GP drivers that have won the Macau event in the past include A1 Team France duo Nicolas Lapierre and Alexandre Premat and A1 Team Ireland driver Ralph Firman. Now Jarvis must see off a strong challenge from The Netherlands’ Jeroen Bleekem

F3: Jarvis wins Macau Grand Prix
Oliver Jarvis is celebrating after a commanding win in the notoriously demanding Formula Three race at the Macau Grand Prix. And the British racer, a former BRDC Young Driver’s Award winner who represents his country in A1GP and currently drives in the the All Japan F3 Championship, is hoping this success will kick-start his F1 career. Jarvis won the second qualifying race to earn a surprise pole position then led almost the entire 15-lap race on the 3.8-mile Guia street circuit. And he beat GP2 drivers Sebastien Buemi and Bruno Senna in the process. Macau is recognised as one of the most demanding circuits in the world because of its combination of fast sections, twisty corners and the kind of crash barriers that make Monaco look like the wide-open spaces of Sepang. As well as the F3 race it hosts motorbike racing and the final two stages of the World Touring Car Championship. Briton Andy Priaulx, driving for BMW, won for the third consecutive year after he claimed victory in

There were many position changes in the final 10 minutes of the qualifying. In the end Jarvis came out on top ahead of Marko Asmer, Kodai Tsukakoshi and Sebastien Buemi. This is the grid for Saturday’s Qualifying race: 1) Oliver JARVIS 2) Marko ASMER 3) Kodai TSUKAKOSHI 4) Sebastien BUEMI 5) Edoardo MORTARA 6) Romain GROSJEAN (more…)

A1GP: Jarvis, not Kerr, for Malaysia
Robbie Kerr will not get the chance to score a third consecutive Malaysia podium as Oliver Jarvis has been picked to drive there for Team GBR on November 25th. Team boss Katie Clements said the decision had been made to give Jarvis, who won the season-opening feature race in the Netherlands, the opportunity to prove what he could do at Sepang. Team GBR is currently third behind New Zealand and South Africa but, with only six points separating the three nations, hopes are high of a leap up the standings. Jarvis said he was delighted with the decision: “Sepang is an amazing track and I really enjoyed running in the rookie session there last year. “I cannot wait to race the A1GP car again and my aim will definitely be to score some strong podium finishes and even another win or two. Hopefully we can leave ahead of New Zealand and South Africa in the championship standings.” The team did not release a statement from Kerr, who finished third in the 2005/06 season sprint ra

Belize Trip Review from Nicole Hill and Treva Jarvis - Utah and Nebraska, USA
"My best friend from college and I decided to do a "kid-free" vacation andchoose to come to the Jungle Dome in Belize. It turned out even betterthan we had dreamed! It was SO fun!!! My favorite thing about the JungleDome is the location. You are way away from the hustle and bustle of allthe tourist stuff. It's a beautiful little paradise. Not even a pavedroad where you're going. We loved our room, super clean and pretty. Oneof the other really unique things about the Jungle Dome is that you eatbreakfast and dinner with the other travelers and it's really fun to getto know everyone and hear about their trips. We did the "Reefs and Ruins" tour. Our first day was so neat as weclimbed into the jungle to go to the Che Chem Ha cave. William was anexcellent guide and his wife cooks a fabulous lunch! We then went withLuis (another guide) to the Xunantunich Ruins. Luis was knowledgeable andvery helpful and loves to take pictures for you. We loved the ruins, justbeautiful! The next day we went

      A Million C-SPANs By Jeff Jarvis, www.buzzmachine...
A Million C-SPANsBy Jeff Jarvis, www.buzzmachine.comReposted with permission.February 26th, 2007 I say we need to create a million C-SPANs made by us, the citizens, using video to open up government to inspection by all. C-SPAN itself is, oddly, one of the most jealous protectors of copyright anywhere. That’s why they demanded that Stephen Colbert’s speech before the press corps of Washington be pulled down from online. That is why The Times writes today about confusion in Congress about what representatives can and cannot put on their blogs. The short answer is: government feeds belong to us all, C-SPAN feeds belong to them. So Nancy Pelosi was in her rights to put up speeches from the floor on her blog; that came from the taxpayers’ cameras. Yet as The Times points out:But last week, as it happens, C-Span did contact the speaker’s office to have it take down a different clip from her blog — one shot by C-Span’s cameras at a House Science and Technology Committee hearing o
