HICKORY, N.C., Oct. 12, 2007 — Dale Jarrett, the 1999 NASCAR Cup Series Champion, today announced he would retire from full-time competition in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series at the conclusion of the 2007 NASCAR season. While Jarrett is retiring from full-time competition, he will compete in six races during the 2008 season, including the season-opening Daytona 500.
Zephyrhills’ David Reutimann has agreed to a new contract with Michael Waltrip Racing that will again allow him to compete full time in both the Nextel Cup and Busch Series, although he’ll be in a different Cup car after the first part of the year.
Reutimann confirmed Thursday that he’ll move from the No. 00 Toyota into the UPS-sponsored No. 44 Toyota after the first five races, replacing 1999 Winston Cup champion Dale Jarrett, who is cutting back to a limited schedule. Jarrett, 50, will run the first five races and the Nextel All-Star Challenge.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers rookie receiver Dwayne Jarrett escaped serious injury after being involved in a car accident.
Jarrett’s agent, Darin Morgan, said Jarrett’s car was rear-ended Wednesday night on Interstate 77 near Charlotte. Jarrett, who walked away from the accident, was checked out Thursday by team doctors.
“It appears he has no serious injuries, just some bumps and bruises,” Morgan said.
Jarrett, who starred at Southern California, was Carolina’s second-round pick. more…

Jarrett, the record breaking USC receiver, caught 11 passes for 205 yards and two touchdowns to help the eighth-ranked USC Trojans end their season triumphant Monday in a 32-18 Rose Bowl blow-out over Michigan.The junior Jarrett will almost certainly declare for the 2007 NFL Draft and shouldn't last past the tenth pick in the first round. Jarrett really impressed me with his hands, size (6-5 215) and speed, but most of all with his excellent route running, he can really get separation from defensive backs. Jarrett is a much better prospect than fellow Trojan WR Mike Williams, who was a first round draft pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2006 NFL Draft.If Jarrett does turn pro, he would have capped off quite a spectacular career at USC.
