Last week, the gaming community’s sworn enemy, Jack Thompson, was officially disbarred and forbidden from practicing law in the state of Florida.
In this week’s Sessler’s Soapbox, Adam talks about how Jack failed to add the discussion on games and also the media’s role (even his own) in creating the villain known as Jack Thompson.

This past Thursday Jack Thompson was disbarred by the Florida Supreme Court for inappropriate conduct, effective October 25, 2008. Florida Judge Dava Tunis said Jack Thompson had “abused the legal system by submitting numerous, frivolous and inappropriate filings”.
To be disbarred is considered a great embarrassment and shame, even if one no longer wishes to pursue [...]
...of stupidity. At least that's what the Florida Bar decided. Yep, that's right, the radical antigamist has been disbarred. That said, the 'Era' only ends in the courtrooms of Florida. So the world won't be completely rid of the bastard, but it's a good start. According to...

I am sure most of you have already heard that Jack Thompson walked out on his hearing today. As a result of walking out, it looks like Florida is going to move for “advanced” disbarment” according to Kotaku which means he’ll more than likely lose his right to practice law in Florida for 10 years. "WIth the release of Grand Theft Auto IV on Monday, violence in video games and its effect on the people playing them has once again garnered media attention.Lawyers, pundits and politicians with far too much time on their hands have no qualms about saying that playing violent video games can lead to real-world violence and/or aggression.Quite frankly, it's an argument that's played out."Full arti
This is getting out of hand, it’s one thing for Jack Thompson to attack GTA IV’s publishers legally, but his latest stunt is seriously one for the books.
This, week, the infamous self appointed protector of peace and justice in the universe, Jack Thompson, decided to write a letter to the mother, yes mother, of Take [...]
In today's news, I'm pleased to announce all gamers that Miami attorney Jack Thompson will no longer be able to file anything directly to Florida Supreme Court, instead he will need to hire an attorney who will be investigated by BAR.Here is a passage quoted from court's orders:This Court cannot allow its judicial processes to be misused by Tasse(JackThompson) to malign and insult those persons and institutions which havebeen unfortunate enough to come in contact with Tasse. Tasse has litigated thematters he raised in his petition repeatedly, and this is not the first timeTasse has filed scandalous pleadings in this Court. This Court has the authorityand the duty to prevent the misuse and abuse of the judicial system. It is clearthat Tasse is unable to maintain the bare minimum standard of

Florida’s Supreme Court has finally had enough of Thompson’s “frivolous and inappropriate filings” and set the bewilderingly vehement campaiger a tough task, to “show cause on or before March 5, 2008, why this Court should not find that you have abused the legal system process and impose upon you a sanction for abusing the [...]
We’re in trouble team.
I don’t envy the people at Rockstar: thank God it’s them not us is all I can say. They’ve really overstepped the line this time! Not only have they been encouraging craven violence by releasing a game where it’s possible to run people over, but now they’ve included a mission where you can kill an attention seeking lawyer whose only crime was to speak out against all the fireballs that Mario players have been throwing since the early 90s.
I wasn’t going to buy GTA4 on release (they haven’t made any really dramatic improvements in game play since GTA3 in my opinion, and it’s just not as interesting as Saints’ Row was), but I’m more likely to having read about a mission which indicates Rockstar North’s sense of satirical humour. No I didn’t buy Bully or Manhunt, I’m not going to, and I’m not touching Manhunt 2 with a bargepole. But if the rest of GTA4 is going to have that fla
Yep, he’s still at it.
We have just received an email from Attorney Jack Thompson stating that his 15-year-old son purchased the Mature-rated game BioShock from a local Best Buy. Thompson informs us that BioShock is created by “the notorious Take-Two interactive,” you may remember them from publishing such ultra-violent games as Grand Theft Auto. [...]
President Bush made a controversial appointment earlier today that will probably fly under the radar for most political junkies. Jack Thompson, the noted video game anti-violence advocate from Florida, could replace current ESRB head Patricia Vance as early as October if congressional hearings approving the presidents nomination go smoothly.
I stand by Jacky, Bush told reporters at a press conference where the appointment was announced. Hes been doin a heck of a job, and I think that all the good work hes done for video games and the kids who play those durn things makes him a true patriotic American. If the lesson of September the 11th has taught us anything, its to never let our guard down, and Jack has never let his guard down dealing with video games. We need to let the man continue doing what hes already been doing because of his sense of duty and honor, only in an official role.
US attorney Jack Thompson has commended the UK for banning Take-Two Interactive’s Manhunt 2 from sale, adding that he “would absolutely like to see the US and other countries following the UK’s lead.”
Thompson said in an article published in MCV UK that the British have a working model where a law has a functional sanction that prevents people from purchasing the concerned material. “I think you all have it right and I think the ruling on Manhunt 2 was spot on – and I see also that Take 2’s The Darkness was banned in Singapore,” he says to the UK ratings body BBFC.
Thompson also took a swipe at nemesis publisher and developer tandem Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games, saying that the fact that they made Manhunt 2 made it all the more likely for a ban to be imposed. The high visibility of Take 2 and Rockstar – the poster child for what’s wrong in the industry – made it more likely that it would get a ban,” comments the activist lawyer
It seems that everyone's least favorite lawyer, Jack Thompson is using tragedy to further his insane religious crusade against video games yet again.Last time we published a letter from Jack Thompson, we had to clarify it wasn't joke. His messianic words and biblical quotes indeed came from the attorney and Christian conservative activist obsessed with video game violence. Once again, we need to clarify that what you are about to read is a real letter coming from Thompson.Game Almighty has received an email from Thompson that includes an open letter sent to Microsoft CEO Bill Gates. The letter reads as follows:Click here to read his letter. If you don't know who Jack Thompson is, he's a religious nut that pretends to be a legitimate lawyer so he can take down the gaming industry using his "video games cause people to kill" garbage. I won't bother linking to his hijinks because they are MANY and I'm already half asleep. Just plug his name into google and you'll find some funny rea
flangracneig pgoramian I know I said I wasn’t blogging, I did lie, but you’ll be pleased that I spent very little time actually sat in front of a computer yesterday. Instead, spent time in the garden, watching TV, and generally not doing anything that could hurt my already delicate neck. It was very very sore. Now, not so much. Instead, just a quick post.
Like a lot of you I was shocked by the Virginia Massacre, but I was angry that in little over 4 hours from the start of it an idiot known as Jack Thompson was on Fox News linking the attack to violent video games. As somebody who has played pretty much every violent video game ever made, I can safely assume I wouldn’t go postal on some university campus. I would not, and could not kill anybody. I’m pretty sure that most of my readers have played video games, some violent, some not so violent, and we’re all pretty much well adjusted people. Of course, I’m preaching to the converted - and the chance
Today was one of the saddest and most tragic days in this nation’s history. A lone gunman, obviously crazed and mentally ill, took the lives of at least thirty-two students and injured fifteen others at Virginia Tech University before taking his own life. Without question or doubt our sympathies, thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those effected by this horrible tragedy. Fellow 451 family member Kezins was actually there, and has written a harrowing first-person account over at 1PStart.
There is no justification for this. There is nothing anyone can say that will make you go “Oh, ok.” The acts of this man will never be justifiable, and no amount of police explanation as to why he did what he did will take away the hurt. Now, more than ever, is a time to support those who survived, and grieve for those who were lost. There was a story that I read about Liviu Librescu, a professor who barricaded the door to the classroom as his students escaped. As they cl
Game Politics has been cc’d a copy of a cease-and-desist letter sent to Midway by one Jack Thompson. This letter concerns Midway’s use of Jack Thompson’s likeness in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. But there’s a problem - there is no likeness of Jack Thompson in the game.
The image you see to the left, which has appeared on SEVERAL gamesites and blogs, is the result of a “Kreate a Fighter” utility that is part of the game.
The “Kreate a Fighter” utility isn’t a new thing. Games have offered players methods of creating an in-game avatar in the past. RPGs and Sports games have thrived on “character customization” features, especially MMOs. While a character by the name of Jack Thompson was not added by Midway to Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, some crafty player has gone ahead and built a fighter in the likeness of everyone’s favorite Miami Lawyer thus causing Midway a bit of a headache.
Anyway, it gave me an idea, how
Heads up to Sir Martin for this, as he once again inspired me to write something. This one has loads of links on the massacre and Jack Thompson, so ready that clicking finger!
