      Ithaca's first event
Ithaca, the restaurant that definitely isn't a bar, or a nightclub, is putting on a regular Saturday night event (for food lovers?).This "very, very exclusive" event is secret, and has a closed guest list that's invitation only. The list is also screened, and you have to be 'pretty' to get in. Finally, when you enter the building, you will be picked up by your ankles and shaken, to see if enough m

      OMFG Its Ithaca
Ithaca opening soon?1. A random poster on the excellent Skyscraper City forums says: "I can confirm that Ithaca will be opening either next week or the week after. A friend of mine is training this week. Sounds all very plush."2. Arnie S Hira - owner of Ithaca - sent me an email the other day: "venue opens in 2-3 weeks".Whathappenedlastnight Manchester

      Ithaca's Artwork
Manchesters most anticipated new opening (a close second behind the rumours that Odd bar is to spawn again) has given us a taste of it's decorative side.MD Arnie Hira sent over these shots of the interior artwork of the club, which look impressive. The restaurants' head chef Paul Day gave some VIP guests a sneak preview of the food at a recent private event, with Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown and John O'Shea in attendance, and the verdict: a success! The bash was held in Arnie's flat, and he thinks that the food can only get better, "If this is what Paul can do in my tiny kitchen imagine what it's going to be like when gets in to Ithaca".Here's a sneak peek, view them all in the Ithaca GalleryWhathappenedlastnight Manchester

      Ithaca: Even Closer
Just a day after I blogged about Ithaca this press release landed in my inbox. The restaurant/bar is going to 'soft launch' in July, with a VIP party in September. "Ithaca – Manchester ‘s newest and most stylish A-List nightspot looks set to open its doors in a blaze of glory this summer after a two year, multi-million pound fit out.The eclectic Asian restaurant, which will also house an intimate bar and an exclusive members lounge is the brainchild of entrepreneur and leisure operator Arnie Hira, one of the owners and founders of One Central Street in the city centre. The extravagant 7,700 square foot venue has seen an investment of more than £4 million to ensure perfection in every detail and is split across four floors boasting a dark and stylish interior. Arnie, said: “Ithaca has been a long time in the planning and a lot of investment has taken place because I wanted the best of everything.“I have lavished a huge amount of care and attention on this project and while it

      Ithaca: Nearly There
When you're planning Manchester's first £3million bar restaurant then you should expect the unexpected (and then expect that your project may get delayed because of them). Builders, money and walls can disappear overnight (The latter delayed the grand opening of Ascension in the Northern Quarter) but you can forgive the team behind Ithaca for not considering that God might get in the way. After a long and unnecessarily bitter struggle with the church they're finally close to opening their new bar restaurant....and it's expected (but in no way guaranteed) to be launched this Summer, even as soon as this month!Further down Deansgate and the Cocoa Rooms is set to re-open as well.Whathappenedlastnight guide to Manchester

      Ithaca Insanity: objections cause blindness.
The whole Church v Ithaca debate that we started a few weeks ago has blown up. Hiroshima Styley.Manchester City Council's licensing committee have actually ruled in the favour of the small man. Canon Clinch (Church Dude), who lives next door to the half built restaurant-cum-bar-cum-nightclub, didn't fancy being kept awake till 4am every morning with the raucous braying of Manchester's great and good.He took his case to the licensing committee, got a load of signatures and they've kicked Ithaca back into touch. The proposed 4am license has been pushed down to 1am. Which is fair enough, since the venue has been bleating on about being a restaurant. Who wants to eat at 4am? Only me, and I'm weird.ManchesterConfidential's Gordo has put together a piece on this decision, and he's come down hard on the Church. The bar, we're told, wasn't going to open till 4am that often - just for 'visiting performing stars finishing work late in the theatres and arenas'. Kid Creole can get a fou

Ithaca: It will go ahead, it won't stay open late
Speak of the devil! It was only the other day that I pondered what had happened to Ithaca, the £3 4 3.6million restaurants/bar/club that was slated to open in Jan 07. They'd hit a snag with the licensing as the bar backs on to the historic 'Hidden Gem' church, and there was concerns about noise pollution. This prompted a staggering 8,000 people to sign a petition.Last year the licensing authorities took the side of the Church and slapped Ithaca down. The bar was seeking a 4am license, but they were told that it was going to be '1am or nothing'. McrOnline are reporting that they won't be appealing this decision, and they're slated to open in April.Father Michael Walsh spoke to us on behalf of the Hidden Gem last year, and discussed the furore surrounding the licensing, and the ugly 'church bashing' that one of our more learned rivals took part in. The Church never has, or had, an issue with a bar opening up nearby, but - he stresed - it has a responsibility to protect itself,
