The fires are very close to the apartments & condos where all of my brothers live. I think 1 of them is in a voluntary evacuation area. The other two will probably be asked to leave very soon.
Update: Fire got out of hand. One Brother located near Pioneer and Jamboree has evacuated. He was also forced to close his office in Irvine due to health conditions.? I am waiting for the word from either of my 2 brothers who are located near Irvine Blvd and Jamboree to help them move stuff if needed.

A pair of researchers at UC Irvine look to be out to make a name for themselves in the increasingly-crowded field of nanotechnology, with them now announcing that they've developed the first nano-scale radio. While the entire setup obviously isn't nano-sized (as you can see above), the demodulator portion of it most definitely is, measuring thousands of time smaller than a human hair. Despite that diminutive size, the demodulator apparently has no trouble translating AM radio waves into sound using nothing more than carbon nanotubes, as you can see and hear for yourself in the video available via the Extreme Tech article linked below.

Irvine Mortgage Blog - The recent release of the New Homes Sales report for August shows that sales dropped sharply by 8.3% from last month. Down to 795,000 from 867,000 in July. The August median new home price was down as well by 7.5% from the month prior. Some of you may be aware that the median price for existing homes actually increased this month. The New Home Sales median sale price more accurately reflects current market conditions than the current existing median sale price because it’s the price builders are selling new homes for, and since builders can’t afford to let home sit on the market because of holding costs, they lower the prices until the homes start to move. Whenever you have big changes being made on high levels like at the Fed, you can expect mortgage rates to change, but not always in the most obvious fashion.
If you’ve read my article about how mortgage rates are determined, you know that a lot of the cause behind the Mortgage Market turmoil we’ve been having is due to nothing more than investors’ ideas about what may or may not happen in the future, however irrational those ideas may be. I roll up the service driveway and wait roughly 30 seconds with the engine idling and my window down. A young man approaches my window and asks how he can help me. I point to the “Check Engine Soon” (CES) light on my dashboard. Without asking other questions, he asks “anything else?” I say that as long as this item is fixed that should be enough.
We both leave the ///M3 in the driveway and go to take a seat in the general service area with many desks situated near the windows with 2 seats available for customers per desk. The young man sits and places my key in a key-reader attached to the computer. All of my car history pops up and he says I need an inspection II but it cannot be done until the meter on the car reaches < 400 miles to inspection. Fair enough, I'll bring it in another 200 miles.

We did our first post on Irvine Sales Trends many months ago. Today’s post includes the 2007 numbers through August. Although the charts are an improvement from the past, I still have a lot to learn from twist. Keep in mind that the data used to generate these charts comes from MLS.
We’ll start with a look at # of sales by month from 1998-2007:
The 3 Month and 12 Month Moving Averages help indicate the trend. Next, we’ll compare the data by year. I’ve create separate charts for 1998-2002 and 2003-2007 because it is a little messy with 10 data sets.
It looks like although SFR sales are about the same in 2007 when compared to 2006, Condo sales are definitely slower in 2007.
Now only if I had the median sales price data for Irvine for the last 9 years.

How do you value very high end homes? I don’t know. The person who is buying a $15,000,000 property probably isn’t getting a subprime option ARM with 100% financing and a 1% teaser rate. In fact, people who buys homes at these price levels often don’t use financing at all.
