Apple was up over 2.3% today and another almost 8% in after hours trading as the tech company announced better than expected 3rd Quarter earnings. Apple reported a profit of $904 million, or $1.01 per share in the quarter. The company reported sales of $6.22 billion, up 29% from the same period last year. Analysts polled by Thomson First Call expected Apple to report earnings of 86 cents per share on sales of $6.07 billion. El otro día me enteraba por Xataka que los nuevos iPods son incompatibles con Linux, pero aun hay más incompatibilidades en estas nuevas versiones, concretamente con la base de datos que utilizan para guardar la lista de canciones almacenadas en el reproductor. ¿Qué significa esto? Pues que si no usamos iTunes para copiar la música en el iPod tendremos un problema. Es decir, usuarios de Linux que estuvieran usando alguno de los múltiples programas para sincronizar el iPod o usuarios de Windows con aplicaciones con EphPod no van a poder usarlas de momento. Evidentemente, con la aplicación oficial, iTunes, no hay ningún problema. Word on the street is that the video out function on the new line of iPods is locked if used in conjunction with old video cables and docks from third parties. Apparently, the new iPods will only work with cables featuring Apple's authentication chip (read: official first party products and a handful of third party), leaving long time video iPod owners in a bind if they have iPod video gear lying around.

I learned something on my flight back to Burbank this week: electronic devices like iPods and the Nintendo DS, are deemed more dangerous to air travel than smoking.
