Those of you into anything from Black Sabath to Rotting Stiffs will appreciate this radio station. There is an Mp3 jukebox to select tracks from any of the bands you've heard (although I couldn't find PJ Long to my dismay) and even download them! If that's not good enough for you then I don't know what is. Hail Stoner Rock for all it's majesty, it remains the most listened to station on my cpu. So

Have you been enjoying your PSP’s internet radio functionality? No? Me neither. Even so, the newest PlayStation Portable firmware (v3.93) is now available and primarily works to make your time spent using internet radio more pleasant. 20 new players have been added and are organized into different types of music to make finding what you’re looking for easier. You can head over to PlayStation.Blog if you’ve yet to use the feature and don’t know how to start. Additionally, the firmware update has expanded support for PlayStation Network games, which is to be expected in almost every update these days.
As far as phones in general go, and especially VoiP handsets, Thompson’s Symbio is certainly a stunning looking device and, as if not just content to boast hightly distinctive styling to die for, the innovative Symbio, as well as functioning as a regular and DECT VoiP handset, also serves as a fully fledged internet radio (oh, and it can also pick up RSS feeds).

Question:
David asks: I would like to build an Internet radio station, can you share a few tips on how to get started?
Answer:
Well, you got me David. Setting up an internet radio station is one of those projects i tend to postpone to less hectic times but never seem to start executing.
Basically you have two main ways to broadcast an internet radio show: you either go for turnkey solutions such as Live365.com or ShoutCast, or you can broadcast from your PC. If you are on a budget, or are really into the entire thing, i would recommend you to go for the second option. In the past i explored a few applications that should allow you to broadcast from your PC. Note that all of them require broadband connectivity:
ubroadcast.com’s Station Manager
Quicktime Broadcaster
WinAmp broadcaster

“Hi, it’s Tim from Pandora, I’m writing today to ask for your help. The survival of Pandora and all of Internet radio is in jeopardy because of a recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board to almost triple the licensing fees for Internet radio sites. In response to these new and unfair fees, we have formed the SaveNetRadio Coalition…”
Not just Pandora but also Live365 and, really, the whole idea of internet radio. I don’t know why the RIAA tries to keep us from learning about new music we might want to buy — except that they’re evil and if it’s a useful service, then their nature causes them to despise it. Terrestial radio doesn’t pay any royalties because the RIAA considers it a marketing arm to generate new sales. Maybe the RIAA doesn’t like internet radio stations because they’re too independent-minded and aren’t in debt to the RIAA.
The best laid plans………….seems that an Internet radio isn’t any good for listening to local BBC radio stations to hear football comentary after all. This is “for contractual reasons” they aren’t allowed to broadcast them over the Internet. Rats. That definitely proves I never tested that process. Ho-bloody-hum.
I have a battery powered wireless mouse on the Vista machine and when Vista thinks the battery needs replacing it helpfully displays a message to that effect. Except that the battery has loads of life left in it and the longer I ignore the messages the more frequent the message is displayed. There is a checkbox that you can uncheck to cease the warning messages which Vista ignores. In fact when I have unchecked this checkbox the messages are displayed even more frequently, recently every 10 seconds. An example of Vista ignoring its own settings.

From the Radio And Interbet Newsletter:
In an exclusive interview, SoundExchange director John Simson told RAIN
-- for publication -- that royalty-compliant webcasters can continue
operating even after the July 15th royalty bill deadline without fear
of legal action, a dramatic change from the position webcasters and
audiences were expecting the organization to endorse.
Speaking
to RAIN, Simson said, "For the people who want to comply with the law
and are in bona fide negotiations with us, we don't want those people
to be intimidated. And we don't want them to stop streaming."----------Personally, from all I've read on this turn of events, it seems to a temporary reprieve that is only delaying the inevitable. But it is good news - many stations, including mine, that would have gone silent after this weekend will now continue to stream for the time being.

An agent contacted me the other day about some contracts and he really did know what he was talking about, refreshing.
He was obviously involved in development once as we had a yak about UNIX and other stuff. I spoke to another agent earlier in the week and he was positively slimy. He had a requirement for someone to start in the next week and the client was obviously very desperate for someone, and I would have fitted the bill OK. But the creepy agent was trying to get some serious commitment out of me without him actually divulging much about the company. OK, he was keeping his cards close to his chest and all that, but I wasn’t getting much information on the position. Eventually he mentioned money and it was hopeless. Got a feeling the contractor rate was about half the company’s budget i.e. the slimy agent was probably keeping the difference. I just said ‘no way’. Oddly he appeared to appreciate my immediate no response.
I felt like asking to be removed fro
Hello everybody:I don't know if having the freedom to read the type of news and download whatever type of music you want is important to you, but it is a high priority for me. If Congress approves the Net Neutrality act, all internet blogs, message boards, websites, etc. will be treated equally and will not be discriminated against by the phone companies and internet providers. This affects me directly since I have been maintaining Eclectic Grooves for the past year and depend on blogs, message boards and other independent sites to serve as my primary source of information. Here is an excerpt from the Savetheinternet.com site about Net Neutrality that goes more in depth on the subject. The nation's largest telephone and cable companies — including AT&T, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner — want to be Internet gatekeepers, deciding which Web sites go fast or slow and which won't load at all. They want to tax content providers to guarantee speedy delivery of their data. They want t
Got an Internet radio today - Logik IR 100 - and setting that up was predictably fun.
It was only £42 ($84) which was half price. I don’t think Internet radio has taken off too well, hence cheap. I’m not sure many people even know what it is. Some people may also be confused by the price hike for playing music via net radio channels and which are threatening to price them off the net. These radio channels are net only, in that they do not broadcast via the airwaves at all. We are talking Pandora.com here. What I wanted the Internet radio for is to listen to regular radio channels that also broadcast over the Internet like the BBC and KCBS.
This is a great alternative to a DAB (digital) radio as digital radio is broadcast over the air and we have lousy airwave reception and of course Internet radio uses broadband. If you left it on for about 10 hours a day for 20 days a month you’d chew up ten’s of gigs of bandwidth. It’s actually not much different than l
When the new music webcasting royalty rates kick in on July 15, your favorite station may sound just like it did on Tuesday -- silent. A broad coalition of music webcasters turned their stations off on Tuesday in protest of the Copyright Arbitration Royalty Board's recent rate ruling, which threatens to crush commercial services like Pandora as well as small and non-commercial webcasters. Not all hope is lost, though. In 2002, an Internet radio day of silence helped spur Congress to reduce royalty rates and save small and non-commercial webcasters. Bills currently in the House and Senate would nullify the royalty ruling and bring some sensible changes to the rate-setting standards.Visit SaveNetRadio.org to learn more and take action to support these bills:http://www.savenetradio.org/Read Kurt Hanson's Radio And Internet Newsletter (RAIN) article:http://www.kurthanson.com/dos/via http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/archives/005337.php
We have been receiving a big amount of e-mails and phone calls asking for advice on setting, configuring, programing and promoting internet radio stations, therefore, we had decided to write a series of articles about this interesting and not well documented subject, in order to familiarize our users with tools and services currently available that are used to broadcast Internet Radio, or simply, to help enthusiastic beginers to develop their own online radio stations.

This past Tuesday, thousands of Internet radio stations found the perfect way to make their point about a recent decision to raise the royalty rates they pay — they simply shut down as part of what they called the “Day of Silence” protest. If the new rules go into effect as planned on July 15, the webcasters claim, there will no longer be niche streams like “Screamin’ and Hollerin,’” “Ninja Tunes” or “The Cole Porter Songbook”–just three of the 320 channels available to listeners of AccuRadio, which is itself one of a legion of large, small, and miniscule providers of free streaming music. Supporters of the increase want to see struggling artists receive the money they say they deserve, and argue that the rules that were set up for a fledgling industry five years ago are no longer appropriate in an era when at least some of the stations are now owned by large corporations such as Yahoo!, AOL or RealNetworks.

If the increased rates remain unchanged, the majority of webcasters will go bankrupt and silent on this date.Internet radio needs your help!On March 2, 2007, the Copyright Royalty Board (CRB), which oversees sound recording royalties paid by Internet radio services, increased Internet radio's royalty burden between 300 and 1200 percent and thereby jeopardized the industry's future. At the request of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), the CRB ignored the fact that Internet radio royalties were already double what satellite radio pays, and multiplied the royalties even further. INTERNET RADIO UPDATE! The Day of Silence on June 26th
PLEASE REPOST!!!
“Dear Listeners,
June 26th is the Day of Silence. The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on July 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!).
To protest these rates and encourage you to take action and contact your Congressional representatives, we are taking part in an industry wide Day of Silence, by silencing our programming for this day.
Please excuse the interruption of our normal programming, but consider that unless something is not done this silence may soon become permanent. We ask that you take action by calling your Congressional Representatives today. For citizens of the US, please click on the banner image link below for instructions how. For a huge number of our foreign listeners, we ask you to kindly contact and all of your friends in the USA to do this for you and for them.

I know that everybody else has already posted about this, but I figured I would help try to spread the word. If today were a normal day, I would tell you about how awesome Pandora is. It’s an Internet radio station that plays a customized stream of music tailored to your own preferences. It’s one of the coolest things I have ever found on the Internet. But if you haven’t tried it yet, you’ll have to wait until tomorrow. Today, June 26, 2007, is Internet Radio Day of Silence. Most Internet radio stations today are going off line in observance of this day. They’re doing it to raise awareness about a new royalty rate increase that would require Internet radio stations to pay more than three times as much royalty fees as they’re paying right now. This would drive virtually every Internet radio station out of business. You can help by going to SaveNetRadio.org where they have tools to help you contact your representatives. There already is a bill in congr
Thousands of U.S. webcasters plan to turn off the music and go silent this Tuesday, June 26, to draw attention to an impending royalty rate increase that, if implemented, would lead to the virtual shutdown of this country’s Internet radio industry.
In March, the Copyright Royalty Board announced that it would raise royalties for Internet broadcasters, moving them from a per-song rate to a per-listener rate. The increase would be made retroactive to the beginning of 2006 and would double over the next five years. After the announcement, a group of broadcasters spearheaded by National Public Radio petitioned the CRB for a rehearing, but a panel of judges denied the request less than a month later. Internet radio sites would be charged per performance of a song. A “performance” is defined as the streaming of one song to one listener; thus a station that has an average audience of 500 listeners racks up 500 “performances” for each song it plays.

Lots of chatter around the web in the past couple of weeks regarding the new internet radio royalty rate hike. The Wall Street Journal profiled our very own WOXY with an article today, I’ll link to the article here and provide some interesting quotes as well.
“The annual cost of running WOXY could more than double to around $2 million, far exceeding the station’s $500,000 to $1 million in annual revenue. The board’s decision could still be appealed or rescinded by Congress, but WOXY manager Bryan Jay Miller says, “I don’t see the situation getting any better.”
Interesting to see it in black and white, the numbers are not to be taken lightly….
“Mr. Nguyen doesn’t yet have a solution for WOXY, which currently has about 100,000 unique listeners monthly. He says he may restrict the ability to create songlists to users who are actually buying and selling CDs on Lala. He is also considering altering his CD-selling model so that li
