I remember the way we parted,
The day and the way we met;
I hoped we were both broken-hearted,
And knew we should both forget.
And the best and the worst of it this is
That neither is most to blame
If you've forgotten my kisses
And I've forgotten your name.
"the travelling ducks" thank you for all the birthday wishes to Pearl. At this point in time, "the travelling ducks" is taking a breather in blogging due to Pearl's health condition and other commitments.
Let's hope the ducks will be able to QUACK again..........
Hiya fellow One Weekly Freaks.
As time is passing, OWG is feeling larger than life out here on his own private paradise island. Vacation is much needed after 23 episodes non stop.
While you and I myself are waiting for OWG to get back from his much needed and long-feeling vacation, here’s a convenient interlude. A remix [...]

Something WetGuess What! It's been quite a long time since I last posted here, and a lot's happened in that time. For those loyal readers that have kept watch here in my absence, I'll try to summarize what's been going on.Firstly - Water! I went on a holiday to Goomburra National Park over the Queen's Birthday weekend, and there was lots and lots of water there! As anyone who's been following my bl

YOU’D THINK

A couple of weeks ago the Colgate University Community welcomed the Dalai Lama to speak on the topic of Happiness. Given the current issues regarding China, Tibet, and the upcoming Olympic games, I encourage everyone to watch his speech, especially the end where he answers questions. In response to a question asking him how students at Colgate could help non-believers to find faith, he responded

Some news snippets ahead of the weekendWe're taking a break from the series on running shoes today, to look at some sports news that came across the wires in the last couple of days. I'll tackle another post on running shoes over the weekend when there is a little more time to get through some biomechanics articles on the subject - the thing about shoes that it takes you into the field of biomechanics of running, which is highly specialised and vast, so I would want to do justice to the studies. But for today, some sports news from the last few days, starting with the latest installment in the Oscar Pistorius case.Oscar Pistorius announces that his own research suggests he has no advantage, and the IAAF were wrongWell, this is hardly surprising, of course - Oscar Pistorius yesterday announ
With all the crap going on with baseball and the Baltimore Orioles, here's someone who can make us feel good again -- Cal Ripken. Here's two commercials of him in for the Holiday Inn hotel chain.
This ad is for a Brylcream Commercial featuring Hall of Fame pitcher, Jim Palmer of the Baltimore Orioles. The video quality isn't great, but this spot I assume would have to be from before 1972, because you see Jim Palmer running the bases, bunting and um, actually looking like a well-rounded athlete.Jim was always known as a ladies man, and this spot does nothing to dispel that notion. Ok, he does sound like a robot, but alas, it's good to find classic commercials like this.
The polling site isn't cooperating this morning. Hopefully I'll have the caption contest poll up in a few hours. Until then, allow me to regale you with some updates regarding what's going on with this blog (in addition to its newfound purpose of getting classic rock stations to play Huey Lewis).I'm continuing to improve my commenting application. The more observant among you will have noticed that the horrendously difficult math problems are not showing up any more. They should only appear for first-time commenters now. Also, if you're a humor-blogs.com member, your banner will now show up next to your comment (if you put in your web site url). I'm hoping to eventually give non-humor-blogs members the ability to display an avatar as well. Sorry, Theresa, you still can't delete comments....I've also created a widget on my sidebar that displays the last ten humor-blogs.com members who have visited this site. Once I've got the bugs worked out, I'll make the widget avail
I remember this was done years ago, but I cannot place the date, but I think it was done while I was in college about a decade ago. Here's a Lipton Brisk Iced Tea advertisement in Claymation that features Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, and George Steinbrenner, and the voice of announcer Phil Rizzuto.
The golden opportunity you are seeking is in yourself. It is not in your environment; it is not in luck or chance, or the help of others; it is in yourself alone. — Orison Swett Marden
The quote above rang true for me when I came across it in a journal I received as part of my company’s 2-day culture shaping workshop. I’ve often used quotes as motivational tools for staff, and myself, and I drew an instant connection between the message in this one and my solo backpacking trip.
I interpret it to mean the growth and personal potential I hope to realize is within my power to achieve, and not by a simple change in physical location, the luck of the Irish, or support of others. I have the power to realize my full potential here and now, in my seat, at my computer desk in Arlington, Virginia, USA.
Of course, I think it’ll be a heck of a lot more fun to “be here and now” while sipping a Capirinha on the beaches of Rio de Janeiro!!
Inspiration, Pre trip
Just spent 10 days in Hervey Bay, where I went to see two very good friends of mine, Jeff and Emma. I had worked together with both of them in Indonesia and it was great seeing them again. We didn’t do anything, except drinking lots of beer, working on our tan, cooking lots of great food and having loads of fun!
Yesterday Dominique and I spent the whole day putting up and handing out flyers to our fellow travellers here in Cairns, because we’re driving to Darwin tomorrow and were looking for people to share the cost. Katrina has decided to stay in Cairns, settle down a bit and get a job. We, on the other hand, are meeting up with Benn and the rest of the road workers we met in Sydney in Darwin! There I will stay for about a week and then I’m off to Indonesia! I’m really looking forward to that. I will try to make my way all the way overland from Bali to the Alor Atoll east of Flores. Then I’ll head up to Thailand before flying back to Australia to drive al
I recently emerged from my blog design hiatus to make many exciting updates.
Major Updates
Upgrade to WordPress version 2.2.1 - I was awaiting the follow-up to 2.2 before upgrading from 2.1 because I knew there would be bugs to fix. While it meant waiting another 30 days for the follow-up release, it saved me from having to upgrade twice in such a short period of time. I am happy to report the upgrade went perfectly, and all of my plugins continued to function properly.
WP Plugin to Change Font Size (upper right sidebar) - This was one of the earliest plugins I tried to install, however I couldn’t get it to work. It allows visitors to increase or decrease the font size of the content text of each post (what you are reading right now). I gave it a second try after the aforementioned WordPress update, and it went up without a hitch. In addition to changing the font size, it is suppose to set a little cookie on your browser so you don’t need to adjust the setting each ti
