When a coil with a certain number of ampere-turns is stretched to twice its length, the magnetic field intensity, or the concentration of its magnetic lines of force, will be half as great. Therefore, field intensity depends on the length of the coil. Equation (1-14) is the mathematical representation for field intensity, which is related [...]

Intensity has always been a pretty major buzz word in fitness. The only problem is it is hard to define making it hard for people to know what it means to be intense. To some it means grunting loudly, nostrils flaring, veins popping. To others it means going as hard and as long as you can possibly go. I hope to cover something in the middle of those two examples. For this purpose, intensity refers
But how can this possibly be? Everywhere you look, it’s always said that long-duration, low-intensity training is best for fat loss. All high-intensity work does is burn carbohydrates, right?
Wrong.

Low intensity exercising or high intensity exercising helps us to burn more fat, improve the metabolism that accelerates our weight loss? There is a debate throughout the net about these two forms of exercise. High intensity exercising is an attractive idea, since it chews up calories at a lofty rate, while low intensity exercising doesn't seem so bad, it permits longer workouts and increases the proportion of fat used by the muscles for energy. Low intensity seem safer for everyone especially individuals with potential cardiovascular problems or asthma. And I think you are the only one can answer which one is suitable for you.Yoga - Low intensity exercisingHere is what I have learned, experienced:Low intensity exercising burns a higher percentage of calories from fat than high intensity e
What does it mean to "get better"? Some goals can be so elusive that they never seem to occur. "I want to be happy" is a classic example. The "pursuit of happiness" is one of the unalienable rights described in the Declaration of Independence, which makes it a profoundly powerful ideal deeply ingrained in each of us.However, no reasonable mature person expects to be happy all of the time. Even if this condition was possible, it's intriguing how little people know about what is likely to truly make them happy. A new book entitled "Stumbling on Happiness" makes the compelling case that most of us do a poor job of predicting what will and won't result in a happier future.Regardless of our ability to reach an elusive goal, I find it's always helpful to quantify what it means and identify s
For the most change in all aspects of fitness in the least time spent exercising nothing compares to a method of strength training called high intensity interval training (HIIT). Abou Diaby expects that team of Arsenal and Manchester united will give everything to qualify for the next FA cup round, the match will be played on Saturday at Old Trafford in Manchester. The French midfielder believes is very important for the psychological advantage, because the two teams will go head to head at the same venue in April. They also have important matches in Champion league, but arsenal's players said that for them the English Premier league title is most important at all.

--I've had many an email about the Steelers and a perceived lack of motivation on Sunday. So let me address it. We've been weaned on a spitting, screaming, borderline-maniac roaming the sidelines for the past 15 seasons, and since he's now employed by CBS, we have to deal with the fact that Mike Tomlin is not Bill Cowher. When taking the entire season into consideration, it's hard for anyone to be critical of Tomlin. He's 9-4 in his rookie campaign and has his team sitting in first place in the AFC North. Sure, the Steelers should have won a few more, they could have adjusted better for the second half on Sunday, and they could've been a little classier in defeat. But given the injuries and the fact that this was a big transition, I'll take 9-4 any day. Remember, it's not a given that coaching changes will work out as nicely as Tomlin has. Ask Atlanta or Miami what they think of their head men. Or should I say head man. Tomlin clearly has his own style, and Steeler fans have

I’ve been finalising the text for my next sales training book, "No Fear Cold Calling", writing the outlines for my new open seminar "Close the Sale, Get that Deal" (or "Shut That Door!" as it has become known around here) and continuing planning for my new sales project Talking Sales Success. And I know that many of you are just as focused…
And many of you aren’t!
In the last year I have run open seminars for c. 10,000 delegates in the UK alone, delivered 100+ days of seminars / training, given motivational speeches for annual conferences, AGMs and away days and done sales coaching / training for a handful of select clients. And that’s before I started working on books, audios, DVDs or even blog articles! Meeting, working with and helping all of those people has been a delight but it can also be a frustration, particularly when individuals are not wor

Ian Gibson asked a question I’m sure many have us have wondered about at one time or another:
Which is worse for the development of lung cancer — smoking heavily over a short period of time or smoking fewer cigarettes over many years?
My answer slowly evolved from a comment to a post of its own. Here’s what the research has to say:
In 2003, researchers at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center created a prediction tool that can assess a long-term smoker’s absolute risk of developing lung cancer within 10 years. How long and how much people have smoked, as well as how long it’s been since their last puff, affect the risk of getting lung cancer.
The formula for the study was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. I’ve linked to the full article since it&rsqu
How would you like to workout for less time but still achieve the same or better results than a longer workout?
If so the answer is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). This is a method of exercise where you alternate between going all out at maximum effort for short bursts and slowing to a more moderate “rest” pace. A typical session lasts from 15-25 minutes depending on your fitness level.
Why is it so important?
Burn baby, burn. Calories that is. You can burn more calories overall and more calories from fat versus lower intensity exercises. Which is amazing in itself but the real benefit comes after your workout is done. Studies have shown that performing HIIT keeps your metabolism raised for up to 24 hours following a session. Meaning you’re burning more calories while you sleep, work and play.
Lastly, doing HIIT can help preserve the muscle mass that you already have, which you tend to lose with lower intensity activities.

One of my clients recently commented that his relatives always seemed to be in some kind of crisis, even when the situation they were dealing with didn't seem very large to him. Events and conflicts which he considered to be "normal problems of everyday living" always seemed more dramatic or chaotic in the hands of his family. This gave us an opportunity to discuss the difference between intensity and intimacy. When people are 'up in arms' all the time there is a lot of energy in the air and situations tend to be very anxious, angry or otherwise emotional. These kinds of situations often draw others in, so people may be very involved in each others' lives and problems. All this putting out of fires and getting all caught up in each others' business can make it seem like people are very intimately connected to each other. Although in a way this is true it's mostly all surface turmoil, like the pounding and crashing waves of the sea.But underneath all the turbulence there is a
I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about intensity and high intensity training. The word intense gets used too much I think for things that aren’t intense. It’s in the kid’s slang, ‘that’s intense’ and they apply it to things to indicate something is pretty cool in their opinion. That’s OK, but it downgrades the real meaning of the word intense.
Webster’s dictionary defines intense as taking something to an extreme degree. That is what I am talking about! You want to have an intense workout every time. Taking that to a deeper level; you want to do every session, every set, and every rep with intensity. When you do that you are achieving what I call RIPPED Intensity. This is one of the Pillars of the R.I.P.P.E.D. Weight Training System.
This is one of the keys to getting a transformation in the quickest, most efficient way possible.
An example of having this RIPPED Intensity is thinking about your grip on the weight. Everyone has t
High intensity training has become very popular recently. Many people who run for their aerobic exercise are finding out they can get better benefits in a shorter period. The workouts are shorter but they are definitely more intense.
First, let’s explain exactly what we mean by high intensity training. A regular running program might take forty-five minutes. There is a five minute warm up, followed by thirty-five minutes of running, followed by a five minute cool down.
Now if you want to switch to high intensity training, you would need to begin by easing into it. You do the five minute warm up as before. You then begin to run at your regular running pace for a couple minutes. Then you break into a sprint. Run as fast as you can for five or ten seconds. You’ll know quickly what you are capable of doing.
You then either walk at a brisk pace or slow down to a jog to recover. In the beginning, your recovery periods will be longer. Stay at this speed until you are breathing nor
SubStrobe DS-125 IntensityBy IkeliteOur first big strobes 25 years ago were embraced by professional underwater photographers; but they teased us that the light was 'tinny' looking, so we embarked on developing a reflector coating to soften and warm the light. The result was a special soft-lite reflector that produces softer, warmer, and more natural colors. The effect is like the soft lighting of a surface photographer aiming the strobe into a light umbrella."SubStrobe DS-125 Intensity

Downed Pilots Endure 30 Minutes of Intensity Before Rescue
5 July 07
By Sgt. 1st Class Thomas Mills
BAGHDAD - What started as a routine reconnaissance mission for two pilots suddenly became 30 minutes of intense action July 2 as they found themselves shot down, surrounded by enemy fighters, then finally rescued.
Chief Warrant Officers Mark Burrows and Steven Cianfrini of the 17th Cavalry Regiment's Troop C, 3rd Squadron, had just finished spotting a suspected roadside IED for an infantry unit south of Baghdad when Chief Cianfrini saw tracer rounds arching up toward their 0H-58 Kiowa. He quickly shouted to Chief Burrows to turn away.
"I saw the tracer rounds come up through the rotors and at that point we tried to get out of range, check our instruments, make su
The China Syndrome (1978) is a flat-out great movie, a political thriller with social relevance. Taking place in a fictitious California Nuclear Power facility, the story concerns an "accident" that takes place at the plant, which is quickly covered up by the plant's bureaucrats. A local TV crew at the plant is there for a fluff piece, but ends up illegally filming what happened. Tensions mount as the reporter (Jane Fonda) and her cameraman (Michael Douglas) effort to get the story on the air. The chief engineer (Jack Lemmon) just wants to find out the truth so he can return to the plant he loves.Despite the left wing message (nuclear power isn't worth the risk), this is a solid film, intense and entertaining. The late Jack Lemmon (who is always great) turns in another manic, on-the-edge performance. This is the last part of the Ways to Save Money on Using Light Fixture series.Â
Go for Dimmers
Dimming allows you manual control over the amount of energy or light consumed. Choose knobs over push-pull levers because they give you more control. Dimmers also allow you to set the exact mood which can contribute to a happier atmosphere. When you want a romantic night, you can dim the lights extensively then bring it back on if you need sufficient lighting for family-oriented activities. Dimmers allow you to put your lights to better use without spending less.
Think of Colors and Tones
In the old days, sizes were the only varying feature for light bulbs and fixtures, but today's range of lighting products allows you to choose the color and tone as well. These are also important because they let you enjoy lesser or greater heat at the right settings and temperature to reduce need for home cooling or heating.
How to Choose the Right Light Bulb and Fixture for Your Home

By Brodie HeinrichsenThis is an intermediate course in exercise, please read “Workout Plans – The Beginners Guide” if you are new to exercise. If you are already at this stage or have already read the first article and followed the steps then you are ready to begin. Now that your body is used to activity and movement, it is time to move it up a notch. You may have started with an activity such as walking, jogging, or swimming. Do not stop your chosen activity, but it is time to introduce something else. If you chose walking you should be aiming to keep your heart rate up. Try walking briskly, so that you are making an effort to breath. You want your heart rate between 60-70% of maximum. The optimum cardio durations for fat loss are between 35-55 minutes. Most athletes will tell you that cardio for longer than 60 minutes can have a catabolic effect on your body. If you’re unsure what catabolic means it’s when the body begins to lose muscle instead of fat.Circuit TrainingThis i

"It's tough," Weight said. "Two of my great friends and a big part of our success we had are those guys. (Guerin and Tkachuk) It was important to get back on the winning record, especially against this team which had been playing so well." Tonight, the Blues played with desire. The Canucks once again did not skate hard and match the opposing team's intensity, losing 3-1 to the Blues. You could say that this game should have been an easy one, but that isn't the case, as the Blues are 17-8-2 in their last 26 games. They played a pretty good game despite the fact that they had just lost Tkachuk and Guerin.Once again the Canucks got into penalty trouble at the end of this game, as Burrows and Dan Sedin took tripping penalties nearing the end of the 3rd period. Doug Weight scored his second goal of the game on the PP, (the Blues' 3rd goal) with only 2:14 left in the 3rd period. But the problem with the Canucks originated with them not skating hard enough. Sure, they outshot the Blues 1
