Advantages of Using Credit Cards Instead of Cash

One benefit is having the credit card company act in your behalf to recover funds from a disputed transaction. Under the Fair Credit Billing Act the credit card company has to investigate the dispute and either take the charge off your bill or explain why it is correct. Even better, you don't have

I e-stalked Peter Bebergal, co-author of The Faith Between us, another book I’ve been reading. It's great soul food, lots of spiritual nourishment that helped in the faith restoration department—you know, faith in oneself and the-dirty-little-secret-that-is faith in God. By the by, authors P&K take God out of the closet, introspectively, passionately, humorously and beautifully. I love it. One of the things I adore the most about being Jewish is the latitude (I feel) it affords me to ask questions and search for enlightenment and atonement on my clock and on my terms. I digress. Learning How to Say No Instead of Flaking
I’m experiencing what I know is a fairly typical behavior pattern for teen unpaid or paid interns. The disappearing act. I’ve seen this pattern before. A teen applies for and gets an internship and is gung ho. Then homework piles up, or hanging out with friends becomes more important, or parents want some chores done at home. Instead of being professional and emailing or calling the workplace and admitting the teen can’t fulfill the internship, the teen takes a powder. Doesn’t answer emails or phone calls – and just doesn’t show up. Or worse – the teen comes up with such a lame excuse that everyone knows it’s a lie. What is it about human nature that makes people more likely to choose being a weasel or a liar rather than telling the simple truth? If you

Is there much of useful freeware installed on your home computer? So, you'll never miss TUGZip - a powerful archiving utility that helps user to do a wide range of compressed, encoded and disc-image files. Personally, it is a perfect tool instead of WinZIP, WinRAR or 7-ZIP. First of all, it supports more file formats that 7-Zip, WinZIP, and WinRAR combined. Not only it supports reading and extracting from more filetypes in those three other similar programs, but also it supports creating and compressing into more filetypes that the others combined. Moreover, TUGZip provides other useful features to use. It supports BIN, C2D, IMG, ISO and NRG disc-image files as well as an SFX-tool to create self-extracting archives and an additional scripting tool to simplify automated backups. Also TUGZip

The difference between Internet Explorer and Firefox while downloading a file from internet is, Firefox will only let you save the file to your computer and then you have to Run it manually. Internet Explorer gives you facility to Run the file from its location (the file you run is downloaded and stored in a temporary folder). By this you will save the Hard Disk Space because the data within temporary folder will be deleted periodically. It will help when you want to use a file just once. Fuses for Nuclear Warheads Instead of Helicopter Batteries–Hey, Anyone Could Make That Mistake
The New York Times reports that the U.S. shipped four fuses for nuclear missile warheads to Taiwan instead of helicopter batteries (the shipment itself did not contain nuclear material, and the U.S. says this was not an intentional shipment). China, of course, can get kind of touchy about issues involving Taiwan. This is a weird story–the Times says the shipment was made more than a year ago, but the mistake was only noticed last week. This isn't the first time there's been a mistake made in this area–last year, six nuclear warheads were mistakenly flown from North Dakota to Louisiana. After last year's screw-up, the Air Force supposedly investigated. Might be worth it for Congress to hold hearings on this matter to find out why these two incidents occurred, and whether any

The price of ink jet cartridges can really be steep depending on which company you buy from and how many you go through. Why You Need To Use A Resume Instead Of A Job Application
A resume is needed over the job application is because it is a presentation of who you are. In short, it is an advertisement. You are the product. It includes achievements instead of just "duties" and provides a lot more room for your information compared to the small section found on a job application form. A job application includes information that would not be appropriate to list on a resume such as references, reasons for leaving a job, salary information and mailing addresses for each employer, to name a few. Resumes have been in existence for several decades, probably right after WWII, and were certainly a lot less complicated than they are these days. They were not as much of a critical part of the job search process as they are now. Many jobs, such as blue-collar trades, nurse

If you have a capital gain on some of your investments in your non-registered investment account and you are planning on donating to charity, you should know that instead of donating cash you might want to look at donating the investments directly to the charity instead (an 'in-kind' transfer). Recently the government legislated that any capital gains on investments donated directly to registered charities (or other qualified donees) would be free from taxes on the gains of the investment. Let's examine how this would be of benefit:Suppose that you had stock that was worth $50,000 today for which you only paid $10,000 ten years ago. Let's also suppose that you are planning on selling that stock and giving the proceeds to charity. Your capital gain on that stock is $40,000 (Today's val

Emotional Eating Recovery Guide: 3 things to do instead of eating the M&Ms

It might be eating because we are bored, stressed, worried, angry or feeling helpless. Some of us even get hungry when we’re really happy. Emotional eating can be a major problem and a huge barrier to maximizing your success with weight loss. The “M&Ms question” is one of the most common questions I hear. I believe it has been asked in every emotional eating group I have ever led. “I’m not even hungry and I don’t want to eat them--but they call to me. And then I’m eating them. I can’t stop. It is not them but us, the taxpayer, who are the real victims here. The reason there is formaldehyde in these trailers is because they are not meant to be lived in for extended periods of time. When should I use an Java applet instead of AJAX?
Applets provide a rich experience on the client side and there are many things they can do that an AJAX application cannot do, such as custom data streaming, graphic manipulation, threading, and advanced GUIs. While DHTML with the use of AJAX has been able to push the boundaries on what you can do on the client, there are some things that it just cannot do. The reason AJAX is so popular is that it only requires functionality built into the browser (namely DHTML and AJAX capabilities). The user does not need to download and/or configure plugins. It is easy to incrementally update functionality and know that that functionality will readily available, and there are not any complicated deployment issues. That said, AJAX-based functionality does need to take browser differences into considerati

      Invest In China Instead
According to Jim Rogers, famed investor and co-founder (with George Soros) of the Quantum Fund, economic hardship in the United States is only just beginning. He predicts that in the US “we are probably going to have one of the worst recessions we’ve had since the Second World War”. In other parts of the world, specifically China, he sees opportunity and growth. In December he published his latest book entitled ‘A Bull in China: How to Invest Profitably in the World’s Greatest Market’. That month he also sold his Manhattan townhouse (bought 30 years ago for $100,000 and sold in today’s market for $15.75 million!) and moved his family to Singapore. He acknowledges that the Chinese market was overheating and may have been in danger of becoming a bubble, but praises the governmen

"Truce" Instead of "True": Democrats Attempt to Downplay Race
Many people applauded the so-called “truce” agreed upon last week between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, the culmination of a week-long argument battle royal over who played the race card. The presidential candidates pledged to shy away from injecting race into their campaigns, from making race (and gender) a platform upon which to make claims about who is better fit to hold the office of president. But this pledge is as misguided and misplaced as some of the comments flying around over the past few weeks (e.g., BET founder Bob Johnson’s winking nod toward Barack’s drug use, Clinton’s refusal to acknowledge it for what it was, or Obama’s mis-characterization of Clinton’s comments about Marin Luther King, Jr.).The pledge, however, simply denies the realities of racial appea

Need More Income - Why Start An Internet Home Business Instead Of Getting A Second Job?
by Deanna Mascle Money is tight or perhaps you are facing some expenses in the future you want to save up for. These are usually the reasons why people choose to take on the challenge and responsibility of a second job. People rarely take on a second job purely for the pleasure of it. However, many of the people considering a second job rarely think about another option -- starting an internet home business. Yet they should consider doing so as an internet home business offers three benefits that the usual array of second jobs do not.The first benefit that an internet home business offers over most of the second jobs you could find is that is easily available, easily accessible, and extremely flexible which makes it easy to work around your existing job and family commitments. Here's the lyrics, sing along :)When I'm worried and I can't sleepI count my blessings instead of sheepAnd I fall asleep counting my blessingsWhen my bankroll is getting smallI think of when I had none at allAnd I fall asleep counting my blessingsI think about a nursery and I picture curly headsAnd one by one I count them as they slumber in their bedsIf you're worried and you can't sleepJust count your blessings instead of sheepAnd you'll fall asleep counting your blessings

Why invest in Commercial Properties Instead of Single Family Homes?
While there are many people who seem to believe that investing in residential real estate and single-family homes is the way to go, investing in commercial properties is much better. Instead of focusing your real estate investing on residential properties focusing on commercial properties is a better option for a variety of reasons.First of all, when it comes to investing in commercial properties, you will not have to worry about personally qualifying for a loan. The property itself qualifies for the loan. You usually will not have to worry about personally guaranteeing the loans when it comes to investing in commercial properties. Non-recourse financing is the type of financing most often used for commercial real estate investing. If your loan is foreclosed on, the bank will take the prop

Attracting Money With a "Where" Instead of IF
I'm a freelancer. No salary or benefits. According to people who see how I live, no security. But, I feel very secure because my spiritual mindset is strong. The Law of Attractions supports my thoughts and brings me whatever I need, because I expect it to come!http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gifI hear people concerned about money: * "I'll get a new car IF I can come up with the money" * "IF I don't get a raise, I'll have to move" * "Daylle, what will you do IF you don't get enough work this month?"The common denominator in the above is IF. Because I expect to always have enough for what I need, I wonder where my money will come from, not IF I'll get it. This makes a profound difference in what I attract. Fear and tentative expectations show a lack of faith. And a lack of faith doesn't support you in getting what you want! I've been talking about changing habits. Break the habit of thinking in terms of "IF I have the money" Think with expectation ab

I’m sitting here, innocently typing about the next big step in U Suxxor’s future when I hear Contessa Brewer on MSNBC talking about some story, attempt to say statistical, and end up producing something that sounded exactly like sssssstesticle instead. She just redeemed herself for awhile, and I take back my call from a few days ago for her firing. Frankly, I feel I might have been just a little unreasonable at the time. Contessa’s not so bad. Why Buy MP3 Music Instead of CDs?
By: Ilan Liu Why buy MP3 music? While MP3s have been popular for years, many people still listen to their music the "old-fashioned" way with CDs. If you're one of them, you may be wondering what the big deal is. MP3 songs offer many advantages over CDs including savings, convenience, and portability. You can buy MP3 songs for much less than the cost of CDs. It makes sense that CDs will be more expensive because it costs more to make the physical CD, store it, and ship it to the store. But MP3 songs are cheap and easy to make, transfer, and store. So at about $1 a song or $7 an album, you can buy much more music with the same money.Besides the cost advantage, MP3 songs are much more convenient to buy, store, and transfer. You can buy MP3 music in minutes without requiring a trip to the store. Eventually you can get rid of all your bulky CDs, CD holders, and cases -- MP3 song files can be easily stored on your computer and music player without taking up any more physical space.Another ad

Triterpenoids are antioxidants which have shown in laboratory tests that they slow the growth of different kinds of cancer cells. Science does not know the full potential of this substance yet, but it could be that triterpenoids are mainly responsible for the cancer fighting properties of fruit.

The Board of Directors is calling for a delegate vote on this topic. The proposed issue is being published to the delegates for a three month comment period, after which a vote will be called. For the motion to pass, it must be supported by 2/3 of the delegates voting. This is sure to be a hot button issue over the next few months. This is my first post on this issue and there are already comments about this on the blog. Here is what Mike says… … My concern is that the outcome for this rule change is going to be determined on supposition and emotions without substantiated reasons for either alternative. And what is better than a warm cup of tea to share with a friend? How about a cup of Chai, this sweet and fragrant tea specialty from India? You definitely don't want to buy that from a store. For one, prepackaged tea bags are ridiculously overpriced, and they don't hold a candle to freshly made and brewed Chai. I know that because my dear friend Sonia taught me how to make the real thing - and I have been addicted ever since. Here's what you need - you can get most or all of it from the bulk food store, any Southeast Asian or Middle Eastern food store, or even a good supermarket:- Pick your gift container first, to determine how much tea you need to fill it with. Politically correct K9s headbutt instead of biting
People are going overboard (way overboard!) with political correctness, and now, dogs in Wales are following suit. The UK’s K9 Magazine is reporting that North Wales Police are now training their police dogs to headbutt rather than bite criminals. Officers say the toothless tactic provides a safer way to tackle uncooperative offenders, and dog squads may soon adopt it across the country. But critics say it is another example of political correctness gone mad - putting the rights and safety of criminals before cutting crime and protecting the public. […] ‘Instead of biting, the dog is muzzled and launches itself like a missile at the midriff of the target,’ said Deputy Chief Constable of North Wales, Clive Wolfendale. […] The scheme was launched after the Association of Chief Police Officers published a paper for dog handlers on human rights. In it, police dog handlers in a position where they are considering setting their dog after a suspect should ask a

Last week I stumble upon a coffee and tea house and decided to try out their tea instead of coffee. It’s a coffee and tea house name Winter Warmers located in a shopping complex. The thought of wanted to have a cup of tea here was because of the decoration. That’s the first thing that you see before you check out the drinks. The walls are decorated with silky curtains and all tables are covered with flowery table cloth. Lot’s of nice delicate tea cups are place behind the wall where they prepared and served the drinks. It sure is a nice place to enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. At for the tea, it’s not cheap but it’s the same price as if you’re having a coffee at Starbuck. The tea that you ordered comes with a transparent teapot and a small cup of honey. It is said that the honey can bring out the flavor of the tea. Well, I try it out and it seems to be it. The tea d

All you need is a little time, a little money to get started, and an account with Etsy  to get started selling your crafts for a little extra cash this holiday season. Airline Notes: American Airlines Transatlantic - Fly Virgin Instead
We have taken several trips on AA across the Atlantic, both in business and coach classes. Food and service continue to be underwhelming and disapointing. The staff attitude ranges from angry to arrogant. On a recent flight from London to New York, a flight attendant explained why AA charges extra for everything such as the little wine bottles: “every little bit helps!” Hard to imagine that AA would make their earnings based on wine sales and if they did it would reflect poorly on board and management. When we pointed out that other, mostly international airlines such as Virgin do not nickel and dime their passengers on long-haul flights, the response was a new low in airlines arrogance and here we quote the AA flight attendant: “Lately our flights have been so full that we do not really care…”. This is just a short sample of various AA “infractions”. Other include, for example, refusing to move a business class passenger with a full fair tic

      Instead of School
When people ask me what we do instead of school, I hardly know where to begin. If they're parents of public schooled kids, I know that they probably think we sit down for lessons at 8, break for lunch and then do more lessons until 2:30. Or they think that we're slackers and just goof off all day, except for the banjo lessons so we can play the theme song from "Deliverance", pick our teeth and look dumb. Well, this week, I've been paying attention and keeping track, something I'm not usually accused of. This is what we've done instead of school. We started the week with Daughter and I going to a playgroup for (be still my heart) secular homeschoolers. Add in that they're mostly unschoolers and you'll know why we're so chuffed. Of course, we meet in a church, but we're okay with that. Atheists are used to irony. This group is such a contrast to the groups we've tried in the past and to the school where Daughter spent three miserable years being told that she just didn't measur

We Should Buy Index Funds Instead of Stocks Even If We Can Beat the Market
Many of us that frequent personal finance sites are passive investors. We buy index funds because we aren’t convinced that anyone can outperform the market in the long run. However, some of us still buy stocks because we believe beating the market by taking on more risk is possible. Some of us fail, but even if we succeed, we should buy index funds. Why? Our goal is to become wealthy and not beat the market. Many of us feel that our money will grow faster if our returns are better. While this is certainly true, imagine how our attitude towards money is affected when daily fluctuations are high. Some of my stocks are pretty volatile, so I look at my performance daily (buying more and selling shares when needed). Recently, the value of my portfolio changes more than $1,000 per day at least 30% of the time. That means that I could be $1,500 richer one day, and $3,000 poorer the next. But the question that many ask is will people end up using VOIP instead of cell phones? While nobody can deny that cell phones are indeed extremely useful as is proved by the near total market penetration of the cell phone industry, yet VOIP mobiles can indeed cut telephone costs immensely. Many people get portability with their VOIP service as they may fix their adaptor in anyplace that has a broadband access and make calls. But as the service is dependant on the reliability and the quality of the internet connection, it is rather a drawback. Many wonder if there is a viable market for wi-fi VOIP phones. Indeed there will be many who would welcome this on account of the obvious reason, saving nearly 50% on the monthly phone bill. Many cell phone companies have addressed the situation by producing dual-mode phones that can be used as regular cell phones which can seamlessl
