What if homosexuals staged a huge promotion of that sexual lifestyle choice, and no one came to see it? That’s exactly what a coalition of organizations is proposing for April 25, this year’s “Day of Silence,” which is sponsored in public schools across the nation to promote homosexuality.
“It’s outrageous that our neighborhood schools would allow [...]
Christians [and others of good will who oppose homosexuality] who object to their children being indoctrinated in perversity, will not be allowed to opt out. The persecution intensifies. This is extremely disturbing. Vatican II teaches us that, in raising children, the responsibility of parents is primary: "Since parents have given life to their children, they have a very grave duty to educate them, and so are to be recognized as their primary and principal educators" (GE, No. 3). And Pope John Paul II, explaining the conciliar teaching more fully in Familiaris consortio No. 36, says that: "The right and duty of parents to give education is essential, since it is connected with the transmission of human life; it is original and primary with regard to the educational role of others, on accou
The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has found the Delaware University running an ugly communist-like program (via Hot Air):
The University of Delaware subjects students in its residence halls to a shocking program of ideological reeducation that is referred to in the university’s own materials as a “treatment” for students’ incorrect attitudes and beliefs. The Orwellian
In an act of sanity rarely seen in the United States, “[British] Schools will have to issue a warning before they show students Al Gore's propaganda film about global warming, “An Inconvenient Truth,”” a judge indicated yesterday.Stewart Dimmock, a father of a student forced to watch Al Gore’s ‘Inconvenient Truth,’ argued that the propaganda film was simply unfit for schools because it is politically biased and contains serious scientific inaccuracies and 'sentimental mush'. He wanted the movie banned from being shown in school to children.Instead, Justice Burton ruled that teachers will have to warn students that there are other opinions on global warming and they should not necessarily accept the views of the film. Justice Burton added: 'The result is I will be declaring that, with the guidance as now amended, it will not be unlawful for the film to be shown.'While I agree with Dimmock’s solicitor that this measure does not move far enough, saying 'no amount o
I make a habit to watch The John Stewart Show whenever I get the chance. Stewart is incredibly talented; he does a brilliant job illustrating absurdity by being absurd. However, recently I’ve become annoyed at how openly slanted his monologues have become. It has gotten to the point where he is clearly attempting to indoctrinate his young audience to the liberal point of view. This would not be much of concern if his audience actually got their news from other news sources. But, polling data has demonstrated that most young voting Americans get their news from Comedy Central. So, should I really be concerned over a marginal comedy show? After reflecting, I realize there is nothing to worry about.I recognize now that my greatest concern about Stewart was not what he said, but who was listening to him. I was worried that his satire was simply too persuasive/entertaining for young college students who have not yet heard both sides of an issue. I was apprehensive that after eight years o
Um, yeah. What she said. Some time ago, I wrote a post on socialization I've been meaning to revisit. I began with a definition:The process by which culture is learned; also called enculturation. During socialization, individuals internalize a culture's social controls, along with values and norms about right and wrong. This isn't about playing nicely with other kids and getting along with a diverse group of people. It is about shared values and norms. In the original post, I passed off enculturation as equivalent to indoctrination and moved on to this internalizing of social controls. In a Spacious Place composed a very thoughtful response.Enculturation is not synonymous with indoctrination, but it is similar. To indoctrinate means: To instruct in a body of doctrine or principles. To imbue with a partisan or ideological point of view: a generation of children who had been indoctrinated against the values of their parents. In common usage, we refer to this in a derogatory sense,
Lest there be any doubt that homeschooling is about indoctrination for many Christian parents, I refer you to this report on Christian Newswire. The article reveals that one of the core motives for Christian parents who homeschool their children is modification of attitudes toward abortion. Disgusted yet? You will be.The title of this article, "Considering Homeschooling: Christians Can Help Stop Abortion," leaves little to the imagination about what is going on here. Just in case it still strikes you as ambiguous, the tagline should clear things up even more: "Home education is a deterrent to abortion and a way to boost pro-life activism."How silly I was to think that homeschooling was about education, even among Christian parents. It is not. It is about indoctrination of one's children to the Christian worldview. According to Charles Lowers, Director of Considering Homeschooling, Christian parents are urged "to see home education as a powerful tool to deter abortions in their own fam

There is a flurry of media attention pointed at a Massachusetts school district that distributed a “diversity book bag” to elementary students promoting the homosexual lifestyle. When David Parker, a concerned parent, prompted a meeting with school administrators, they responded by having him arrested for trespassing.
An ACLU lawyer, however, told the judge that “it is a tremendous bonus” for children to be given information of which their parents wouldn’t approve, and that teaching children homosexuality when their parents’ Biblical beliefs do not support that has nothing to do with a violation of religious freedom, according to the MassResistance.org reports.
This boils down to a fundamental question about the nature of government’s rights. Does the state have the right to interrupt the parent-child relationship for the “good” of society? It’s an interesting concept; one that Germany has been grappling
One of the more controversial statements made by Richard Dawkins in The God Delusion is that raising a young child as Christian, Muslim, Jew, etc., should be considered a form of child abuse. According to Dawkins, we should be appalled to hear someone talk about "a Christian child" because this reflects nothing more than the parents' religion and its imposition on a child too young to make up his or her own mind.Is there such a thing as a Christian/Muslim/Jewish child? The first question we must ask is whether there is such a thing as a Christian child, Muslim child, etc. I think that Dawkins is correct in answering that there is not. No child is born into the world with an established set of religious beliefs. These beliefs are acquired through a lengthy process of indoctrination. Thus, it is accurate to say that all children are born atheists because one cannot believe in something of which one has never heard. Of course, most children do not remain atheists for long, especially in A
