Why is Google still indexing feeds, especially URLs that do a 301 redirect?
I see Feedburner and other feeds in the SERPs. The Feedburner feeds do 301 redirects so they shouldn’t be indexed.
I’ve seen this in the regular Google SERPs and also in the Google Custom Search Engine SERPs.

I was just looking at Matt Cutts blog and noticed he mentions that google is now indexing content found only by submitting form fields. It seems they just started to, and only do so for some sites right now, but it is an interesting development. For good or bad, depending on the page content and need of the web site.
Matt lists an example of a drop down with countries to select before moving to an inside page. Another example is many sites have a jump to box saying something like "I want to:" with values in the box. I see this often in municipal web sites. I want to renew my license, pay my parking ticket, look up my property tax assessment, etc.

The recent changes at Google SERPs have brought a focus on LSI: Latent Semantic Indexing among the many seo professionals and business owners. It is an approach to understanding keywords in the context of the words on the entire webpage. In addition to relying on keywords on a web page, Google now applies LSI technology to identify the words that has relevancy to one another. For example, LSI can discover relevancy between the words ‘Iraq’, ‘George Bush’ and ‘Saddam Hussein’ for the search term ‘iraq war’.For LSI, Context is the King. Next time, when you optimize a page, make sure that you focus on relevancy and context.

We are often puzzled by what frequent search indexing helps our sites do better via the search engines. If you have had these questions yourselves then you are on the right track to finding answers.
When selling advertisements to my advertisers I have often been asked what the normal cache date of my home page is. Meaning they want to know how often it is indexed, I was puzzled for some time as to what this helps or even matter. But now that I have been doing seo for a few years and have some experience under my belt I now know.
To put it bluntly the reason we should work toward frequent indexing is because it is an indicator by the search engines that that website is authoritative and worth getting a link on. However, the thought behind it
Approved backlink for your site is not enough. Sometimes Google can’t index page where backlink appeared especially if it is large social site with missions pages, forum, or site which is not powerful enough for search engines.

The Indexing service periodicaly takes a "snapshot" of all the files and folders on your hard drive and stores them to a file which makes searching for files faster. Two problems with this feature are that it can cause a strain on the hard drive over time and can slow things down if it indexing begins while the computer is being used. It is generally advised that people who do not use the search feature to find files disable this to prevent performance degradation. Doing so can save from frustration in the future. Here are the step-by-step instructions:Click 'Start'Click 'Run...'Where it says 'Open:' type 'services.msc'Scroll down the alphabetical list and find 'Indexing Service'. PERFORMACE DURING TABLE AINDEXINGCCESS : An index can be used to speed up the selection of data records from a table. An index can be considered to be a copy of a database table reduced to certain fields. The data is stored in sorted form in this copy. This sorting permits fast access to the records of the table (for example using a binary search). Not all of the fields of the table are contained in the index. The index also contains a pointer from the index entry to the corresponding table entry to permit all the field contents to be read. When creating indexes, please note that: An index can only be used up to the last specified field in the selection! The fields which are specified in the WHERE clause for a large number of selections should be in the first position. Only those fields whose values significantly restrict the amount of data are meaningful in an index. When you change a data record of a table, you must adjust the index sorting. Tables whose contents are frequently cha
Let’s dispel the notion once and for all that index funds are only for passive investors. Sure, the original index funds tracked the S&P and were meant for investors who either believed you couldn’t beat the market or didn’t want to try. Since their beginning, index funds have expanded their breath. You can find a fund which tracks any of the major indices and most industry sectors, such as health care and technology. The first cousin of index funds, Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), do the same thing – they track indices. Between index funds and ETFs you can mirror any major index, small index, industry sector, industry sub-sector (i.e., biotech or software), global region or individual country. You can also try to outguess the indices if you want. For example, you can buy a S&P index fund which weights all 500 stocks equally or one which weights them by market cap, and so on. (Note to investors: make sure you know wh
I noticed that MSN was indexing URL fragments. A URL fragment is the part of a URL that comes after a pound sign like this:
http://example.com/page#section
Here is a screenshot.
(Sorry, I had to block out part of the URL.)
Google removes the fragments from URLs.
What will the effect be of indexing anchors as separate URLs? Single pages with multiple URLs? Is it just a temporary MSN SERPs bug like this one?
The indexing service is responsible for two things really: Making search boxes run super quickly (like under the control panel, and your program files) which is a blessing, as it does run very fast. It is also responsible for doing the same thing over all your files that you choose to let it index. This can be good if you do a lot of searches, or bad if you have a lot of files in these areas, but don’t ever search them. Or even if you do search them, it can cause your indexing service to cause a lot of strain on your hard drive (or at least slow you down as it is hard drive intensive). I personnaly would not turn *off* Indexing services, but I would recommend disabling for everything else but the start menu/control panel, etc. (more…)

These days, our needs for knowledge, information, everyday necessities and novelty materials can be found just with one single click on an internet website. It’s no surprise that people prefer to surf the WWW rather than go to a library or shopping center to look for or buy what they want. More and more people use search engines like google to help them go directly to the website that contains what they need.
This trend sparked a revolution in internet marketing strategies. Web masters of vendor sites compete with each other to place their websites in the top 10 search results of a user’s searches. Various software utilities were created to boost the chances of high SE rankings. Some of these utilities even manage to cheat a high ranking out of a search engine even when the website itself contains nothing of interest to the user.

It used to be that to get into Google’s index was a process that could take days or months. However, Google now seems to be indexing pages at a blinding speed. You can read Matt Cutt’s report on “Minty Fresh Indexing” here. He writes about one of Skrenta Blogs posts, and about how it got indexed within an hour or so.
Skrenta has a PR6 home page, hence a new blog post can get indexed very fast via a normal RPC blog pinging service.
But what about just a normal static page? How fast can they get indexed?
Clover Signs wrote an article about how to calculate the height of text for signs. When it was published, there was only one link pointing to that page. It came from the index page of the articles. Google does not crawl that page very often, and didn’t crawl it at all the day that day.
10 minutes after it was published, I submitted the article to Digg, as it has interest to any graphic designers. Then an amazing thing happened:

The SEMNE organization landed an incredible opportunity last week with a guest lecture from Dan Crow. I've seen Dan speak once before several years ago and was shocked by his overly secretive conduct. Thankfully, Google, and apparently, Dan, have changed a lot since then. He had some remarkable things to share with the SEMNE group and, thanks to Jill Whalen's post (Getting Into Google), the rest of us as well:
We were also treated to some additional tips that many people may not have known about. For instance, did you know that you could stop Google from showing any snippet of your page in the search engine results by using a “nosnippet” tag? And you can also stop Google from showing a cached version of your page via the “noarchive” tag. Dan doesn’t recommend these for most pages since snippets are extremely helpful to visitors, as is showing the cache. However, Google understands that there are certain circumstances where you may want to tur
Traditionally, there has only been one way to earn interest on your savings (as opposed to investing in the stock market or some other type of variable financial contract): find the highest fixed interest rate you can find, put your money into that account, and hope for the best. It could be a savings account, a bank CD, or a fixed annuity or life insurance. But, this also meant that if you were to buy into any of these you had to accept that fixed rate and no more. If the stock market started doing well, you would have to draw some (or all) of your money out of one of these accounts and place it into a higher risk account.
Today, no such need exists. Innovation by life insurance companies has brought about a concept called “equity indexing”. This relatively unknown and underutilized concept makes it very easy to reap the upside of the stock market without any of the downside risks - all without investing in the stock market. If the stock market gains 10%, so can you. If th

Indexing has always been considered a highly targeted science. Enter a search query into Google search and the pages that are displayed are generally optimized towards that exact word or term. However, in their continual battle to server the most relevant but most natural pages with genuinely useful information Google has injected latent semantic indexing (LSI) into its algorithms.LSI is a unique indexing method that potentially takes Google search one step closer to becoming human in its way of thinking. If we were to manually search through web pages to find information related to a given search term we would be likely to generate our own results based on the theme of the site, rather than whether a word exists or doesn't exist on the page. The extremely rigid form of "keyword indexing" also meant that black hat SEO techniques were easier to implement. Search engines could be manipulated into ranking a site highly by using set formula. Originally, cramming a page with a particular ke
