Bush shocked world energy producers in 2006 when he pledged to slash America's reliance on Middle East oil.But today one of every two barrels of oil consumed in the United States still comes from foreign suppliers like Saudi Arabia, and that picture is not likely to change much through 2030.With Bush entering the final months of his presidency, the challe
Israel at 60 is as prosperous as it has ever been, but not without challengesThis weekend Israel celebrates its 60th year of independence. Since 14.5.1948 this small country in the heart of the Middle East has turned from an agricultural based economy into a full blown economic wonder and success story.I chose to review Israel economic success through this list of little known facts and figures which, unfortunately, hardly ever make it to the news. I recently told one of my friends that for the first time since AJ joined our family I was able to sit back and watch him, thoroughly enjoying him acting and playing like a little boy.I read, with introspect, how other bloggers like Stephanie and Jenna, watch in awe as their children grow and amaze them each and every day. I love that they can see the wonder in their children's eyes, see their intelligence and creativity, and that they can recognize that even though they only get a few hours of sleep a night that the rest of the hours in their days are precious. When we adopted AJ we were full of all of that hope. We wanted, after infertility, to have a child. We specifically wanted a "normal" child and we actually indicated that on our adoption papers because we were not sure if we could f
How much more accommodating can Israel get? They are obviously more accommodating than anyone should be to people who hate them and morn their existence.According to Arutz Sheva, IsraelNationalNews.Com, the Nazareth District Court has allowed the radical anti-Israel Islamic Movement to conduct a Naqba (Catastrophe) ceremony on Israel's Independence Day, next Thursday. Many Arabs believe Independence Day actually marks their own Naqba, and commemorate it as such. The ruling was given on Thursday after the authorities of the Arab town of Kfar Kana refused to allow the ceremony, claiming it was political in nature. The court rejected this claim, and the anti-Israel ceremony will be held on Israel's actual Independence Day in the Kfar Kana stadium.----------ref:

Yes, AIP members voted to support taking the Statehood case their founder, Joe Vogler, had prepared, and present same, to the United Nations for full International review. 2. Is there any progress on organizing a vote about secession? At this point, some progress. The AIP leadership realizes more education of Alaska's population regarding this slice of Alaskan History is necessary and have committed to that effort. Camp Bondsteel and America’s plans to control Caspian oilCamp Bondsteel, the biggest “from scratch” foreign US military base since the Vietnam War is near completion in the Yugoslav province of Kosovo. It is located close to vital oil pipelines and energy corridors presently under construction, such as the US sponsored Trans-Balkan oil pipeline. As a result defence contractors—in particular Halliburton Oil subsidiary Brown & Root Services—are making a fortune. Education System Suffering From Bad Policy Decisions, Archer Says:
By Candia Dames -
Nassau, Bahamas:
The country’s education system is still suffering from some of the bad policy decisions made after independence in 1973, according to former High Commissioner to CARICOM A. Leonard Archer, who is also a former educator who headed the Bahamas Union of Teachers.
Mr. Archer, who was the special guest on the Love 97/JCN programme "Jones and Company" on Sunday, said that after independence many good teachers felt they were no longer welcomed in the system and so they left.
The result, he said, was a shortage of educators in the public school system and the powers that be lowered the standards teachers had to meet before being hired.
It meant that many teachers were brought in with lowe
Zimbabwe and observers around the world are holding their breath for the outcome of the nation's elections. President Robert Mugabe is at the center of the fray -- a man who helped usher in Zimbabwe's independence and became president in 1987, but whose policies have reflected a growing distance between himself and the reality for Zimbabweans. The nation was once known as "the breadbasket of Africa," with a highly productive agricultural sector. But around the turn of the century, the term "basket case" was more commonly applied to the struggling country.Mr Mugabe's legacy is now forever tainted with the odious whiff of corruption, the rank oppression of human rights, the stunted growth of the economy, the clawing grip of early mortality, and the rasping destitution of people just trying t

Not all Texans are like the former governor of Texas who currently serves as President of the United States (324 days left, and counting). I have to explain this difference when I meet some New Yorkers and they find out where I'm from. I, for one, prefer to think that the Texas Man, if we're talking gender, is better represented by Robert Rauschenberg, Freddy Fender, Terry Allen, Luis Jimenez, Tommy Lee Jones, Willie Nelson, Bill Moyers, Buddy Holly, Kinky Friedman, Tommy Tune, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Rip Torn, and Alvin Ailey than by Dubya. Call it Texas pride. I, as Texas Woman, like to think that I follow in the kick-ass traditions of Ann Richards, Barbara Jordan and Molly Ivins, women who made some horse sense of politics.Today is March 2, Texas Independence Day, the day to commemorate the

As you know by now, Kosovo has declared its independence from Serbia. The internet is bustling with theories on if this is a good or bad thing. Even John Bolton is weighing in on the issue by saying it is no bueno. I myself couldn't be happier for the Kosovars, and I am much more optimistic than many out there.Hotair asked the question earlier on if this was good or bad, but they missed some key points while remaining reserved in their optimism. There are a few things we must keep in mind before we start making assumptions that Kosovo will become FOB al Qaeda. First and foremost is that the Kosovars love the United States. Let's not forget that it was the Christians who were the bad guys in that conflict, and the Muslims were fighting for their lives. While the Muslim world, including

The shift towards Kosovan independence could lead to a resurgence of similar nationalist sentiments across the globe. That’s according to Dr James Ker- Lindsay an expert in international conflict.Momentum towards the creation of a separate ethnic Albanian state independent from Serbia has grown significantly following the election of Hashim Thaci as Prime Minister in the province. The region had been reasonably stable following the rise of ethnic tensions within the Balkans over a decade ago.Yet despite the presence of international peacekeepers thoughout the more volatile parts of the former Yugoslavia, the issues of identity that helped enthuse rivalries have not disappeared. As Serbia looks to build greater links with the European Union it may have to reluctantly accept not only greater
That amazing holiday of picnics, grill-outs, road-trips, and of course fireworks is just a few days away. It is amazing how this holiday seems to fit so perfectly with summer. I have often wondered if our founding fathers madethe choice of July 4th as our Independence Day because that was when they signed the Declaration of Independence orbecause they knew families couldn't have their holiday cookouts in the dead of winter. My guess would be theformer, but we should be ever grateful to them for both liberating us from the British and choosing a summer day asthe time to celebrate our freedom. It also allows us to wear some of our more comfortable and fun outfits. This weekend is always a whirlwind of trips to the beach, to friends' parties and family BBQs. Also known as Dakota Indians, they announced secession from United States. A new poll for the Sunday Herald has recorded a 5% incraese in support for Scottish independence. When asked whether Scotland should negotiate with the UK government for a settlement for independence, 40% of people agreed.Does this simply reflect the recent (illegal) antics of the Scottish Labour party (HERE and HERE) making voters willing to consider any alternative to oust Labour even if the main agenda of the only credible alternative is independence for Scotland - or is there an increasingly genuine desire to go it alone?Salmond is certainly pursuing policies to wind up those south of the border, especially the south-east. His most recent proposal are to freeze council tax. Unless the English keep cool and make a strong case for the Union, he may get his way. It's shambolic that a botched programme of devolution has threatened the Union. It's more shambolic that there's no offer of a solution from the head-in-the-sand-don't-ask-the-West-Lothian-question Labour government.

Tousa, the parent of company of Engle Homes and current company funding the development of Independence in Winter Garden stated it may file for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after reporting a $619 million loss at the end of November. Chapter 11 is a reorganization filing so people under contract in this community will probably get their deposits returned but how quickly is really the question to be asking. They’ll also be wondering if and when they’re home will ever be built. I’ve recently noticed Engle Homes advertising a lot of discounts for their homes but if it was me, I’d stay tuned to news about Tousa before signing any contracts with them. It’s just my opinion though.
Another local builder Levitt and Sons filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy a few weeks ago and their customers are sitting in limbo. They have no idea when their home will be built or deposits returned. Construction has ceased in Levitt’s communities and Tousa will most likely take

I was just thinking about something that I never would have guessed at before. In ID4, Randy Quaid plays a drunken pilot who has claimed to have been abducted and experimented upon by aliens. Up until today, I had assumed that even while most people doubted him, he really had been abducted, because of his righteous moment at the end of the movie. I figured the moment would have been weaker if he hadn't really been abducted. But today it occurred to me that that just might be the case. One of his "buddies" who made fun of him and his wild allegations was seen on the news in the movie as describing how Quaid had been abducted by aliens and abused, sexually.Up to now, I never thought much of that short clip, but recently I wondered, could Quaid's "buddies" have been the "aliens?" Did they kidnap him, mess him up, and then laugh when he kept saying aliens did it? And then did the one guy go on the news and take the opportunity to pin his own transgressions on extraterrestrials? It wa
You know what the big dream is. Getting a major label record deal. Or sign your soul to a contract while they take 90 percent. When you sign a record deal it is like going to a big family reunion and everyone has eaten all the food. All you see is one piece of Cake and then someone takes that too.
Unless you are already wealthy, your chances are slim of getting a record deal.It costs hundreds of dollars for promotion and cd duplication, packaging, marketing and whatever else. There are so many licensing fees, rules, and make sure everybody gets their money. Producers, agents, managers, and people you don’t know want their money. What is left, a maybe a salary of $40,000.00 a year or less. You do all the work, they make millions off of you. That is a major label deal.
Major Labels have dominated the music market forcing many artists to go independent. If you go on MySpace, you will see thousands of very talented recording artists that are unsigned. Don’t bother sending a maj
While I will argue that the specifics of financial independence will vary from individual to individual, there are some commonalities. Using these,it is possible to create a common definition.
Financial Independence is having sufficient mix of assets to both meet current financial needs and a comfortable probability of meeting future needs.
I suspect that you have noticed the qualifier in that definition. It is an important one, because we are talking about the future. In many cases, it is a future that could be 40, 50, 60, maybe even 70 years long. During that time frame, a lot can happen that would not be predicted now.
Lets break that statement apart.
...meet current financial needs...
Current Financial needs is the defined part of financial independence. It is what takes into consideration your current standard of living. A 30-something individual with a $2500/month mortgage and 3 kids at home will have a hugely different set of current financial needs than a 70 year ol

Attain your success by building the success of others. One way to gain financial independence is through Network Marketing.Network marketing as predicted by experts, is showing definite signs of going mainstream. More and more people who previously rejected Network Marketing, are now getting involved, and large companies that used traditional methods of marketing in the past, are now adopting the concept. What is it? Network Marketing, as it is called today, has been around since the 1950s. Network Marketing originally known as Multi Level Marketing (MLM), is probably one of the most misunderstood concepts in America today. In Network Marketing, companies move products through a group o

Yuci township, the subject of the story, is not a rogue element (although it may be run by rogues); in fact, it displays typical administrative behavior. It might possibly disgorge its illegal gain if a superior authority compels it to — a strategy used by a number of American bankers collecting on bad loans in China (”The governor of the province is a personal friend of mine, and if you don’t give me my $23.6 million today I will be having lunch with him tomorrow). But then, the judiciary is once again circumvented by the power structure which would — or would pretend? — to espouse judicial independence in the first place

I'm beginning to think of last Wednesday less as Alleke's first birthday and more as her Independence Day. Last night April and I were sitting on the couches and talking after Alleke was in bed. At one point April looked at me, puzzled, and said, "I barely saw Alleke tonight. Did you have her?" I shook my head."I guess she must have been playing with her friends," April said, thinking out loud. I smiled. I couldn't help thinking of the night before. Our friend Troy had also celebrated his birthday this week, so we threw him a surprise party at his house. I had been working for a few days straight, however, and I hadn't seen much of Alleke. So, even though we were at a party, I decided to spend some time with my daughter. Alleke had already run off somewhere, so I began looking around for her until I found her in her friend Nic's bedroom digging through toys. When I came in, she glanced up at me and handed me a wooden, yellow block, as if to say, "Take this. You'll need

From ihtBEIJING: Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao called on Taiwan to resist moving toward formal independence from the mainland, speaking Sunday in an annual National Day address traditionally used to appeal for unity between the rivals.Wen said China stood ready work with Taiwanese for unification and stressed that Beijing wanted to accomplish that peacefully."We will continue to work with all the Taiwan compatriots to oppose and repulse separatist activities for 'Taiwan independence' and advance the great cause of China's peaceful reunification," Wen said in the speech, delivered with Communist Party leaders seated nearby, and addressed an audience of Chinese political elite and foreign diplomats in Beijing's Great Hall of the People.Wen's remarks contrast with Beijing's recent alarmist rhetoric against Taiwan.China and Taiwan split amid civil war 58 years ago. Though a chilly peace has characterized their rivalry in recent years, Taiwanese President Chen Shui-bian has pushed for a

Crowds of people await to hear the words that sparked a war for independence that lasted more than a decade.I love Mexican history and was extremely intrigued by it in college. I guess it helped that
In my post, Are you wealthy? Here’s a test, I defined financial independence as: “when income from my assets can cover all my family living expenses and a few luxuries”. These words were never vivid in my mind until I read Your Money or Your Life by Dominguez and Robin and saw the illustration, which the authors called this the “Crossover Point.” This is perhaps the best graphical representation of the words financial independence.
Take for instance the graphic above. If my income (green line) is less than my expenses (red line), I can quickly accumulate debt (black line below $0). However, if I am diligent at reducing my expenses and improving my income, I can climb my way out of debt, and build assets (black line above $0) that appreciate in value and generate income. If the earnings from my investments (blue line) exceed my expenses, then I have achieved basic financial independence (the first crossover point). If it exceeds my current income, then I
Yes today is Malaysia’s 50th Independence Day and on 31st August all Malaysian celebrate it. From we were young until now we’re taught how to appreciate this special day and remember how our old generation faught for this Independence that is so precious to this day. We are not be able to taste this kind of freedom if not for them and I feel grateful to God. Anyway, what I want to say here is that is it really that we feel independence? When people shout “Merdeka! Merdeka!” at the top of our lungs, do people know what Merdeka is? One of my friends got interviewed by a local newspaper reporter and asked him “What is Merdeka? (Independence)” and my friend couldn’t answered it. And then I told him why don’t you just said to that reporter: “Do you really think we are Independence?”. Yes that’s what I want to say here. Are we really that Independence?

Before 12 AM tonight, I’m going to post something that touched my heart when I read it on newspaper yesterday. It was from New Straits Times. I don’t usually read NST (I prefer The Star far better, of course), but this one got me thinking for a very long time.
It goes like this…
“History has a purpose.
We learn from its mistakes so that we may not repeat them.
We learn from its achievements so we may emulate them.
For a nation that is now celebrating 50 years of Independence,
it pays to look back even as we move forward. If only to learn from the best.
Along with the like of Tun Abdul Razak, Tun Dr, Ismail, Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Tun HS Lee, Tun VT Sambanthan, and a band of others, Tunku Abdul Rahman fought for independence from the British Empire in a way that all political crises should be resolved - not by bloodshed, but by negotiation.
He and his fellow visionaries then laid the foundation for parliamentary democracy that has lasted till today.

Malaysia Today today posted a very interesting posting quite related with the subject in hand.In the light of our nationwide dissent and dissatisfaction towards the current ruling government, Malaysia Today has tabled a few ideas that were originally contributed by their readers. They were ideas that strongly conveyed the moods and hopes of the Malaysian public. I personally find them to be inspiring! :-)Okay now, let us see what this is all about. Malaysia Today said, quote:“Some readers have suggested that we fly a royal flag. The most important ‘royal flag’ is the Standard of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, a yellow field bearing the crest of Malaysia between two sheaths of golden paddy. The correct protocol is that the Standard is flown in the presence of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Though this is the most important outward display of royalty, it is quite understandable that most ordinary Malaysians would neither have access to it nor seen it flown. So how do we otherwise show our
