The Commonwealth Publications Saga Part III: Implosion
We returned from Chicago with an air of confidence and success. C.P. had made some important business deals and, more importantly, soothed the nerves of some very skeptical authors (the company cash cows). The afterglow didn’t last long, however. The proverbial ‘red flags’ soon began to appear. The volume of complaints from authors steadily grew; the production backlog became the elephant

Obama campaign has pre-total implosion syndrome
Obama's campaign is the most prickly group of people. Besides all of the race stuff, they tried to turn a routine case of government carelessness into "passportgate." Now, they've put the worst possible spin on Clinton's statement. From here. Statement: “I think it would be a great thing if we had an election year where you had two people who loved this country and were devoted to the interest of this country,” Clinton said. “And people could actually ask themselves who is right on these issues, instead of all this other stuff that always seems to intrude itself on our politics.” Half cocked reaction: “It sounds more like McCarthy,” McPeak said. “I grew up, I was going to college when Joe McCarthy was accusing good Americans of being traitor

New Details Emerge Just Prior to ‘The Dark Knight’ Building Implosion
“Sam PH” went out to the Brach’s Candy factory on Tuesday before its implosion for “The Dark Knight” to bring us a new report.Warning: This is spoiler information.I went by there today [Tuesday] and took a few photos from the perimeter fence. I talked to a couple of the local residents. It looks like it will happen about noon from what they have been told. They won’t be dropping the whole building, I’m guessing. Rather, they’ll just blow out the new glass facade they have installed on the north side of the standalone building.Sticks of dynamite are wired along the bottoms of the new windows. Aside from the new facade, they added a big red cross on the factory side with a few new windows and a “pharmacy” vertical sign. The north face of the pedestrian crossover has been nicely recovered and the word “emergency” has been painted on it. The neighborhood on the north side of the plant (to Chicago Avenue) will be closed off on Wednesday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. to anyone

      Anti-Gun Implosion
I've been following the events at the Huffington Post over the past couple of days, and I have to say it's pretty funny. I love to see anti-gunners turn on each other, and that's exactly what's happened with Josh Sugarmann from the Violence Policy Center and anti-gun Rep. Carolyn McCarthy. It all started out when Sugarmann wrote about my blogs, "It's Not a Gun Control Bill" parts one and two, from back in June. Sugarmann believes me when I say the new NICS improvement bill isn't a gun-control...(read more)

Yet Another Implosion --- Mariners down the Orioles 7-4
Sadly, the same scene throughout the Orioles season has played itself again. Well, last night in Seattle, the Orioles lost by a score of 7-4.The designated ace of the Orioles, Erik Bedard, went six innings, struck out seven and gave up three runs, but left the game with a 4-3 lead.Too bad the Orioles could not hold onto it.Chad Bradford came in the 8th inning, after Jamie Walker came in and got two outs, but also gave up two singles. Then John Parrish came in.Pinch hitter Jose Vidro drove in the tying run on a single off Parrish, and then Inchiro Suzuki to drive in another run and then Jose Lopez added the final two runs with a double. The O’s were able to touch young phenom Felix Hernandez for 11 hits and four runs over five innings plus, but that was all scoring they were able to muster.Red-hot Brian Roberts had 3 hits, and Nick Markakis had two hits and drove in two runs. Aubrey Huff and Melvin Mora had two hits; meanwhile Jay Payton and Ramon Hernandez drove in the other runs. This

Mortgage Implosion and Local Real Estate Appraisals
The mortgage implosion spider is continuing to weave it web!  We are nowing seeing the more affects of defaulting mortgages as they relate to current mortgage qualifying.  In previous blogs, we have discussed the Mortgage Implosion in general and some clarification of what to expect.  But here is one thing most consumers don’t think about…their appraisal and future property value! So, what’s the BIG deal?  Simple…decreasing values and a small check box our appraisers have to fill out.  They have three options when it comes to rating the property values of a neighborhood:  1.  Increasing Values  2. Stable Values  3. Decreasing Values.  Which one is the issue…Door 3!! It’s no surprise that in our local Tampa market, we have seen increasing values for the past couple years, but now homes are not increasing at the rate they were before.  The issue is when the appraiser says…Yep, this is an area of decreasing values...We (the le

Mortgage Implosion: A Home Buyers Perspective
Warning: This post is intended to start a dialog on the topic for the general edification of everyone involved. I’m not billing myself as an expert on the subject. I’ve been the recipient of much love from Google as of late for the search terms “Mortgage Implosion.” Frankly, when the whole thing went down, I had no idea what was going on. That’s one of the main reasons why I brought on the Mortgage Godess….to explain it to me and everybody else. She broke it down Barney style. Now I’ve pretty much got the hang of it. Here’s what it means to the potential home buyer: 1) You can still buy a house. There’s no need to panic. There are still houses for sale, and there are still ways to get into them. There are many great first time home buyers programs out there that can even help you if you don’t have much of a down payment. Certain municipalities will even give you a grant for the down payment. I know… 2) Down

      Senators and the Subprime Implosion
Yesterday, the Senate Banking Committee held a hearing titled “Mortgage Market Turmoil: Causes and Consequences” on the topic of the mortgage meltdown. The hearing presented two panels of witnesses which included government regulators, lending industry representatives, as well as affected consumers.Opening the hearing, the committee chairman, Senator Christopher Dodd (D-CT) offered a generally accurate, yet slightly disingenuous account of the evolution of the easy lending era in the US which was then followed by a round of opening statements from the other committee members.During these statements there was an unusual amount of Greenspan bashing, placing a substantial amount of the blame on the former Federal Reserve Chairman’s shoulders.“In February 2004, the leadership at the Federal Reserve Board seemed to encourage the use of adjustable rate mortgages that today are defaulting and going into foreclosure at record rates. The then chairman of the Fed said in his speech to th

      Implosion
I know this has nothing to do with college football, the SEC, Tennessee, or anything like that, but the only big sporting event of the weekend is the All-Star weekend emanating from sunny Las Vegas, Nevada. That being said, and my need for sports not being completely satiated by the NFL Replay of Super Bowl XLI, I decided to tune in to the network that so cleverly named itself after trinitrotoluene, an explosive chemical compound.  Good play Ted. But Ted’s brain must be about to explode (haha, see what i did there? that’s super clever) at the coverage of the event.  I don’t know what TNT’s operating budget is, but I would imagine it would be more than the people who are submitting videos of the event via their cell phone cameras to YouTube.  The reason I bring up YouTube?  Well, the quality of the video on the popular video site is at least 20 times better than the quality of the crap they’re spewing out from Vegas. There are glitches, skips, burps, a
