Internet users are stepping up their campaign against President Lee Myung-bak to protest the government's decision to import beef from the United States. On Daum, a petition has been held to ask the National Assembly to impeach the President, aiming to collect as many as 10 million signatures. The number of people who joined the campaign had almost reached one million late Sunday, and was increasing fast, with about 1,000 signatures added in 10 minutes. The campaign organizers criticized Lee for reneging on his pledge to adopt policies for the people.``On top of a series of policy blunders, he is now trying to import American beef with the risk of mad cow disease. Lee has hurt the pride of the country and we cannot approve of such a president,'' the organizers said in a state
From AfterDowningStreet.Org : There is a widespread myth that an impeachment cannot happen in the space of the nine months Bush and Cheney are scheduled to remain in office. But I'm unable to find any past impeachment that took as long as nine months. It's messy comparing one impeachment to another, as they are complicated and varying processes. But a few things are clear: most impeachment efforts achieve important results quickly, without actually achieving impeachment (think Elliot Spitzer or Alberto Gonzales); it is not uncommon for impeachment efforts to begin later in an administration than where we are now (think Andrew Johnson, Herbert Hoover, Harry Truman); while preliminary investigations of the sort that have been done on Bush and Cheney for the past year and a half ca
During last week's big media focus on Bittergate, Will Bunch of the Philadelphia Daily News took his opportunity when he had access to Barack Obama to ask him about how he would deal with the alleged (and I use that term loosely) war crimes of the Bush administration. Here's his response:What I would want to do is to have my Justice Department and my Attorney General immediately review the information that's already there and to find out are there inquiries that need to be pursued. I can't prejudge that because we don't have access to all the material right now. I think that you are right, if crimes have been committed, they should be investigated. You're also right that I would not want my first term consumed by what was perceived on the part of Republicans as a partisan witch hunt becaus

The prospect of Pervez Musharraf being the first president in the history of Pakistan to be subject to an impeachment trial hangs over his head like the Sword of Damocles. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and its allied parties in parliament are planning to impeach him with a combined two-thirds vote in a joint sitting of the parliament within two weeks of the formation of government at the centre. Well-informed circles in the Zardari-led PPP and the Sharif-led PML-N say the impeachment of Musharraf may move to the top of the government’s agenda, putting behind the restoration of the deposed judges, keeping in view the disturbing signals from the presidency. These circles added that the new parliament could initiate impeachment proceedings against Musharraf on the ch

Late last night, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott issued his long-awaited opinion on questions related to the authority and removal of Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick (R-Midland).
Nor surprisingly, Abbott sided with Craddick. In short, Abbott ruled that the Speaker is a statewide officer and is thus subject to impeachment under Article XV, Section 7 of the Texas Constitution.
However, Abbott did rule that “impeachment is not the only way to remove a speaker,” pursuant to “expulsion” under Article III, Section 11 of the Texas Constitution or “exclusion” under Article XVI, Section 2 of the Texas Constitution, as well as other remedies availiable under Section 665.007 of the Texas Government Code. Of course, Abbott doesn’t say what those other remedies are, but does include this incredible misinterpretation of the state constitution:
If the Speaker were impeached, the Texas Constitution allows the impeachment judgment to extend to, but need
I'm so excited right now, I can hardly type!As very few of you probably know, Dennis Kucinich introduced Articles of Impeachment against Vice-President Dick Cheney last month and they passed the House of Representatives. Yes, I typed that correctly. They passed the House of Representatives. Speaker Nancy Pelosi did not want to go immediately into debate, so the Articles of Impeachment moved into the House Judiciary Committee. The House Judiciary Committee is where hearings are to take place if the Chairman, John Conyers, decides to proceed.Rep. Robert Wexler is a member of the House Judiciary Committee and he is calling for impeachment hearings to begin! But the Democratic leadership is still standing in the way. Robert Wexler and two other members of the House Judiciary Committee, Rep. Luis Gutierrez and Rep. Tammy Baldwin, have written an op-ed in support of starting hearings which can be found on the website Robert Wexler has set up to show public support for starting hearings. He

This headline is not a joke. Last week, Dennis Kucinich introduced articles of impeachment against Dick Cheney on the floor of the House of Representatives and it passed. It was the most exciting CSPAN event surely of my lifetime. The vote started out like everyone would expect. Some Democrats were voting 'yes'. The clueless Democrats and all Republicans were voting 'no'. All of a sudden, in a move that I can't quite wrap my head around, the Republicans started switching their votes to 'yes'. Here's a good summary of what happened from Jonathon Kaplan at The Hill:The vote to kill Kucinch’s privileged resolution began as a largely party-line affair, but halfway through the vote, Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz.) persuaded Republican leaders to get rank-and-file GOP lawmakers to change their votes to force the debate. At one point, the vote to table the motion stood at 246-165. Once Republicans began switching their votes, momentum swung the other way. When the vote stood at 205-206,

Today Dennis Kucinich pushed forward on his plan to move to impeach Dick Cheney.
“In his conduct while Vice President of the United States, Richard B. Cheney, in violation of his constitutional oath to faithfully execute the office of Vice President of the United States and, to the best of his ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States, and in violation of his constitutional duty to take care that the laws be faithfully executed, has purposely manipulated the intelligence process to deceive the citizens and Congress of the United States by fabricating a threat of Iraqi weapons of mass destruction to justify the use of the United States Armed Forces against the nation of Iraq in a manner damaging to our national security interests.”

I spent my afternoon glued to C-SPAN watching the House debate the resolution brought by Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) that calls for the impeachment of Vice President Dick Cheney. Needless to say, it was full of drama and theater and made for a good afternoon of watching politics in action. As The Nation reported,"The move by Ohio Congressman Dennis Kucinich to open a debate on the question of whether to impeach Vice President Cheney turned into a imbroglio for the Democratic leadership of the House Tuesday as mischievous Republicans joined dozens of Democrats in rejecting a move to table the resolution."Rep. Steny Hoyer, once the resolution was introduced, immediately called for a vote to table the resolution which failed. He then wanted to vote to send it to the Judiciary Committee where it will die be considered. That motion passed. Now we must wait and see if Rep. John Conyers will act or will Pelosi and her "impeachment is off the table" act prevail.Push Conyers to act. Contact her

Kucinich Will Introduce Privileged Resolution To Force Up Or Down Vote On Cheney Impeachment
Washington, Nov 2 -
Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) announced today that he will be offering a privileged resolution on the House floor next week that will bring articles of impeachment against the Vice President, Richard B. Cheney.
“The momentum is building for impeachment,” Kucinich said. “Millions of citizens across the nation are demanding Congress rein in the Vice President’s abuse of power.
“Despite this groundswell of opposition to the unconstitutional conduct of office, Vice President Cheney continues to violate the U.S. Constitution by insisting the power of the executive branch is supreme.
“Congress must hold the Vice President accountable. The American people need to let Members of Congress know how they feel about this. The Vice President continues to use his office to advocate for a continued occupation of Iraq

Extraordinary Rendition: Apologies Are Not Enough By Hank Edson After Two Years, It’s Still Business As Usual The Bush administration’s determined and diseased compulsion to torture ought to be reason enough to impeach George W. Bush and Dick Cheney, but sadly, it is far from the only reason for taking such politically responsible, humanitarian action. The White House has claimed itself justified in the exercise of a totalitarian brutality that begins with unprovoked shock and awe mass murder of innocent populations, and then swiftly proceeds past torture into the worst nightmares of Joseph Kafka or George Orwell. We are all hopefully aware by now that the depravi ty of the war on terror extends well beyond heinous torture and involves something the administration refers to as: “extraordinary rendition.” Extraordinary rendition consists of the seizing of foreign individuals in the midst of their daily lives, refusing them any communi

"I've always said that impeachment is off the table," I think I can say that most Americans are saying, well put it back on the table. That's what we voted for and made it possible for her to become the House Leader. She started by saying this is the President, the Vice President and now the Republican Congress war. She blamed the Senate as being closely divided and claimed she did not have the political clout or Constitutional authority to unilaterally cut war funding. What then is her role as House leader? What exactly can she do about said war? Yes, it is true that the Senate can be stopped because of 60 votes needed to over ride the President. The House, may I remind the Congresswoman, has the majority and can set which bills will go to the Senate for a vote or vice versa. She stated, the House could simply cut off funding for the war. "I certainly could do that. That doesn't bar the minority from bringing up a funding resolution. They have their parliamentary prerogatives

During Bill Clinton’s impeachment proceedings, Gerald R. Ford was asked: “what is an impeachable offense?” His response was essentially: “It’s whatever the Congress thinks it is at any given moment in history.”
This response was not from the 38th president of the US, or the constitutionally elected person to succeed Spiro Agnew as Richard Nixon’s Vice-President in the first application of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment in 1973. Mr. Ford responded as a member of the House of Representatives, Republican Majority Leader for 8 years, and who was first elected as the Rep. from Michigan’s Fifth Congressional District in 1948. Rep. Ford certainly had the credentials to be considered an expert to interpret the constitutional meaning of impeachment, from a legislative perspective at the very least.
He was also a major player in the second presidential impeachment proceedings in the United States’ history. He ascended to leadership as a result o
The nation should be able to remove by an orderly constitutional process any president with an unyielding commitment to failed policies and an inability to renew the country’s hope.
That said, Robert Daliek suggests an amendment to the Constitution, Ouster By the People that would be a workable alternative to the awkward and lengthy impeachment procedure: a recall process that is now available in 18 States (remember Gray Davis in California?).
The political argument against Bush’s continuing tenure is not frivolous. There are good reasons to see him as a failed president whose remaining time in office will be unproductive at best and destructive to the country’s well-being at worst. But given the constitutional rules by which the presidency operates, there is no serious prospect of removing him from office.
The recall process Daliek proposes would require a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ vote in both Houses requiring 60% approval before a national referendum wo

Its funny to watch the liberals floundering around so publicly. Well, maybe floundering isnt the perfect descriptor. How about its funny to see them masturbating in public this way. Because thats just about what it is for them. Impeachment has become the Holy Grail to Democrats as surely as the search for the chalice of Jesus became the Holy Grail for knights of the middle ages. And while in the minds of the Democrats George Bush and Dick Cheney are responsible for all evil in the world they still have to be proven guilty of high crimes and misdemeanors to make impeachment even possible. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has said that impeachment, much to the chagrin of moonbats everywhere, is off the table at this time. The reason she has said this is because they dont want to muddy the waters of the Democrats first term back in the majority with what would be incredibly messy proceedings. She is a realist and knows that George Bush will be looking for other employment a

John Nichols, author and political journalistWhen I go out across America, what I hear is something that's really very refreshing and very hopeful about this country. An awfully lot of Americans understand what Thomas Jefferson understood. And that is that the election of a president does not make him a king for four years. That if a president sins against the Constitution-- and does damage to the republic, the people have a right in an organic process to demand of their House of Representatives, the branch of government closest to the people, that it act to remove that president. And I think that sentiment is afoot in the land. (Read More)Bill Moyers recently interviewed John Nichols (quoted above) and Bruce Fein regarding the activities of our president and vice-president. Here is the transcript.According to Bruce Fein, Cheney has... Asserted Presidential power to create military commissions, which combine the functions of judge, jury, and prosecutor in the trial of war crimes.

The likelihood of Congress starting impeachment hearings against President Bush seems low at the moment. Even though impeachment hearings require only a majority vote in the House of Representatives to get started, something the Democrats could easily muster, party leadership has repeatedly come out against it. Nancy Pelosi couldn’t be any clearer when she said, “that impeachment is off the table; she is not interested in pursuing it.”
The oft cited reason for not impeaching Bush is that even though he has committed “high crimes and misdemeanors,” the standard required for impeachment (see NSA wiretapping, the Valerie Plame leak, misleading intelligence in the run up to Iraq), most democrats continue to maintain that they have more important things to do with their time. Senator Russ Feingold pretty much sums up the thinking:
I believe that the President and Vice President may well have committed impeachable offenses. But with so many important issues fa

No Jail Time for Libby? It's Impeachment Time for Cheney and Bush! There's only one reason why Bush kept Libby out of jail: to keep him from ratting on Cheney and Bush about their direct involvement in the felonious outing of Valerie Plame. I found some new news that New Hampshire is now in a position to do what the Vermont legislature failed to do a couple of months ago, impeach the President and Vice President. Here's a resolution introduced in the NH legislature...Impeachment resolution from NH Representatives Betty Hall, Robert Perry, Marcia Moody.PETITION TO COMMENCE IMPEACHMENT PROCEDURES IN THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS WHEREAS, Section 603 of the Manual of the Rules of the U.S. House ofRepresentatives provides for impeachments to be initiated on a motion basedon charges transmitted from a state legislature, and WHEREAS the right to vote, being the right that protects all other rights, and the right which ratified the Constitutions of our state and country, isa right that is collectively inalienable, in that elections may not begenerally suspended or terminated; and, WHEREAS under Paragraph 2 of the Declaration of Independence, ourgovernment is "instituted to secure these rights", including the right ofelections, which
Imagine someone in the year 2020 watching these two video's, which one of the two would they say were grounds for impeachment?I recall Rep. McKinney speaking out against this President in the House for the last time and telling us what some did not know. She was made out to be the bad person by both the Republicans, the media and others... I will admit, she had her own problems, but she gave us the truth and a lot of us ignored it.Imagine someone in the year 2020 watching this video and wondering, what was wrong with the American People? What say you?
This poll from today's MSNBC Live Vote is very telling indeed. What's interesting is the forcefulness of the question. It's not do you approve of the job the President is doing but should he be impeached. That's a much more polarizing question and yet 88% still say he should go. Maybe people don't understand what impeachment is. By this poll, Bush's popularity rating is 12% (if you include the I don't knows). Technorati tags: impeachment, bush, politics, voting, life

39% supporting impeachment proceedings against the President and Vice President. To be honest, that number surprises me, I thought it would be closer to 25%-30%. Impeachment is a big deal, if that percentage of the population supports it (which is higher than the President's approval rating,) that indicates to me a major abhorring of this President by his people.
Thousands of people have called Speaker Pelosi’s office today asking that Bush and Cheney be impeached. No, this was not a random coincidence. A blogger on Guerilla News Network posted earlier today claiming that Speaker Pelosi was conducting a phone poll asking people to call her office if they wanted impeachment. This story quickly spread around the Internet, making the front page of popular social news sites digg.com and reddit.com. Now that Betaflow has debunked the validity of the poll, the question remains: Can mass phone calls of this kind influence politicians on an issue like this?
This is what we know:
Those that made calls indicated that the woman who answered the phone was very nice, if not amused by the ordeal.
Sometime before 8pm Eastern, after the number was redirected to voicemail, the mailbox was full and not accepting any more messages. I have to assume this indicates that a significant number of people left messages, since members of congress receive a he
John Murtha says the Democrats should consider impeaching the president for keeping the American people safe. Most rational people including many elected Democrats know that impeachment should not be considered. Murtha is simply trying to score political points for his party with this rhetoric. I find it despicable the way they are playing games with the war and the soldier’s lives.
From the article:
“They say we’re willing to compromise, and then we don’t get any compromise,” said Murtha. “We’ve already compromised. And we need to make this president understand, Mr. President, the public has spoken.”
What have the Democrats compromised? Not cutting off war funding altogether? If they really believed what they are saying they would cut funding and end the war immediately. The only thing the Democrats have compromised is the safety of our troops, the safety of the American people, and their principles and integrity.

Until the vice president’s condition is clarified, I am placing any action on hold.”The reference to a “crisis” appears based on news reports early Tuesday that Cheney required emergency treatment for a chronic blood clot condition. These reports were later amended based on statements from the vice president’s office that the medical exam was routine."http://www.cqpolitics.com/2007/04/kucinich_delays_cheney_impeach.htmlAlex

Today we have the latest essay from Peace Tree contributing author, Ernest Partridge. Impeachment: Winning by LosingErnest PartridgeThe Crisis PapersMarch 13, 2007 Why not impeach Bush and Cheney and remove them from office? Among those who devoutly wish that these two be separated from their offices, the most prominent reason for resisting impeachment is that even if a bill of impeachment were voted in the House of Representatives, conviction and removal from office by the Senate will almost certainly fail. So why begin an endeavor that is doomed at the start? So argue such worthy observers as Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Randi Rhodes and John Dean. Until recently, I concurred with this opinion. These skeptics would have a point if Senate conviction and removal from office were the sole objective and consequence of impeachment, as the Republican regulars and their compliant enablers in the mainstream media would have us believe. Once again, by assuming that removal f
Is this a case of full disclosure before announcing for the Presidency? Before any of the moonbats start in let me remind you that Clinton wasnt impeached for having an affair. He was impeached for LYING about having an affair. I dont know why the left has to be reminded of this every 30 seconds. Not that I would say they have the memory of goldfish, no, I wouldnt say that Back in the early 90s the Republicans were gearing up with the Contract With America to take back control of the House and Senate. The Democrats just chuckled at that as they had near complete control of both houses for more than 40 years. The election of 94 was the equivalent of a heart attack for the left. The unthinkable had happened and the Republicans were in the majority. I remember Newt and a camera crew walking through the Congressional offices and him commenting on having access to offices he had never even seen before. The loss of the House was a real shock and they were in total denial for a l
It's amusing to watch the Democrats posturing and making pronouncements on what is and what is not off limits. Hillary could have taken no assistance from Bill and that would have gone far to distance herself from his impeachment. But no, she wants to use his notoriety for her own purposes and yet not have any of the associated baggage he brings along. I expect her to play the victim card if the issue of impeachment is seriously brought up by any of the other contenders for the Democrat primary. Pelosi has already tossed out the "they're picking on me because I'm a woman" card so why shouldn't Hillary do the same. I always have to wonder about the mentality and thinking processes of people who think they can get away with dictating the ground rules to others. Oh wait...isn't that the very basis of liberal thinking? ~RJH Washington Post story link Clinton Fights to Keep Impeachment TabooAfter Spat, Campaigns Know to Expect Swift Reprisal for Any Hint of the ScandalBy Anne E. Today we have the latest essay from Peace Tree contributing author, Ernest Partridge, Ph.D. Impeachment Now! - A Recantation.Ernest Partridge, Co-EditorThe Crisis PapersFebruary 6, 2007 "I am ... unwilling to endorse demands for immediate bills of impeachment against Bush and Cheney, for the simple and compelling reason that such an approach is less likely to succeed. Recent history teaches us that the direct route to impeachment may not be the most effective" I wrote this, and believed this, last December 5. Intervening events, and some sober reflection, have convinced me that I was wrong. The intervening events. Since I wrote those words, Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has told the Congress, under oath, that the Constitution does not guarantee the protection of habeas corpus to the citizens of the United States. If he believes this and acts accordingly, Gonzales has violated his oath of office. So too the President and Vice President if they endorse Go
In Miss Gerry Charlotte Phelps's fantastic blog, she predicts that Dems Will Move Toward Bush's Iraq War Policy: 1. A Democrat Congress is already credited with "losing" the War in Vietnam. (After Nixon and Kissinger negotiated a "withdrawal with honor" with the North Vietnamese in December 1974, the South Vietnamese government was managing the war on its own with U.S. financial support - just as China and the U.S.S.R. were financially supporting the North Vietnamese. But in early 1975 the Democrat Congress suddenly voted to cut off U.S. funding to the South Vietnamese. New President Ford vetoed the bill, but the Dems overturned his veto. The South Vietnamese government fell soon after.)
2. Getting blamed for a defeat in Iraq would be political suicide for the Dems. While some Dems would like to see us defeated, most would not. And even those who would like that will come to understand that losing the war because of the action of a Democrat-controlled Congress would in fact

Bush stinks. Let's get rid of him! For a while now I've been hearing about different plots on impeaching his ass, but none seemed viable to me until now. Recently I got an email from the NHHPC listserv concerning a movement for sending impeachment letters to the new Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, in order to show that there are thousands upon thousands of Americans who want to kick his ass to the curb! This plan may actually work, and it's simple. All that needs to be done is the sending of 500,000 faxes or letters to Nancy Pelosi by Jan. 1, 2007, the day she officially starts as Speaker of the House. Why faxes or letters and not emails? The point is to have an overwhelming physical show of support for impeachment. You can't exactly dump a stack of emails onto the house floor. And according to the Democratic Underground, over 50,000 telegrams helped build the groundswell of support for the impeachment of Richard Nixon, so I'm sure in the net era we can easily meet the 500,

Impeachment is a strong word-- we don't seem to think so because it is thrown around in the media. It doesn't seem like they can impeach President Bush for things he did in war times... except maybe if he's really stealing that much money... We'll have to wait and see.

, Tom DeLay joined the NBA Hall Of Shame (Nasty Bush Administration) : his fingerprints being all over corruption scenes (in favor of the then Governor Dubya), no new cast should be needed for his indiction into the Crawford based HOS.All members of the President's closest circles enjoy a criminal record now : in an unprecedented series of controversies, they all had to testify before a commission - and for the weaker links, to quit. All smoking guns point to a man who owes his pristine criminal record to his Daddy. But 41 cannot erase anything anymore and at one moment 43bis* will have to pay. The sooner the better.
