Catholic bishops condemned the destruction of human embryos for stem cell research as a "gravely immoral act". The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops voted 191-1 to adopt the statement, without debate or discussion.
"Harvesting these ’embryonic stem cells’ involves the deliberate killing of innocent human beings, a gravely immoral act," the organization said. The identity

Selflessness or altruism means putting the interests of others above yourself. Just as “selfishness” has negative connotations in society of self-interest at the expense of others, “altruism” is often thought of as kind or generous acts for others. This view is wrong. It is wrong because the originator of the term himself, Auguste Comte, meant [...]

WASHINGTON (AP) - Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, caused a stir at a Senate hearing Wednesday when he repeated his view that gay sex is immoral and should not be condoned by the military.
Pace, who retires next week, said he was seeking to clarify similar remarks he made in spring, which he said were misreported.
“Are there wonderful Americans who happen to be homosexual serving in the military? Yes,” he told the Senate Appropriations Committee during a hearing focused on the Pentagon’s 2008 war spending request.
“We need to be very precise then, about what I said wearing my stars and being very conscious of it,” he added. “And that is, very simply, that we should respect those who want to serve the nation but not through the law of the land, condone activity that, in my upbringing, is counter to God’s law.”
Anti-war protesters sitting behind Pace jeered the four-star general’s remarks with some shouting, &ld
SICKO Summarized: This American citizen was unable to receive health care because they were poor and/or not white, so let’s take a trip to this non-American country and see if we can get them free treatment there. Yay! Free treatment for all, even American tourists. What’s the answer to this problem? Socialized medicine, of course!
It seems a common claim that morality is impossible without religion. While I might agree that in some cases religion (or, more specifically, the fear of eternal damnation) can be a pretty good motivator, I think that a morality that doesn’t rely on religion is not just possible, but it’s a lot more desirable. Last time, I outlined a somewhat extreme view of what some people think of morality without religion. In this post, I’d like to explain how I feel Christian morality (and religion-based morality in general) can be flawed and potentially abused. Next time, I’ll outline some of my ideas about morality.

Immoral Religion
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion. - Steven Weinberg1
As Steven Weinberg suggests, some people use religion to justify th

(AP Photo/Lawrence Jackson) (Lawrence Jackson - AP)We just returned from Washington D.C. from the Christian Peace Witness for Iraq. I will put up some of my own pics in the next couple of days. It began with non-violent direct action training followed by a service at the National Cathedral. Estimated attendance was 2,825 at the powerful worship service. Volunteers estimated about 2/3 marched down Massachusetts Avenue to the White House. About 200 or so decided on a planned arrest to raise awareness. It was cold, rainy, and snowy. I think they had planned on about 5,000 but the weather turned many away. Yet, I was amazed and impressed with the number of people who marched despite th
Marine General Peter Pace, the Pentagon’s top general, said in an interview on Monday he believes “homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts.” He also said, “I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is OK to be immoral in any way.”
Because of these comments a gay advocacy group is demanding that General Peter Pace apologize. The group Service members Legal Defense Network said on their Web site that “General Pace’s comments are outrageous, insensitive and disrespectful to the 65,000 lesbian and gay troops now serving in our armed forces.” This group has also represented several members who have been dismissed from military duty because of their sexual preferences.
Pace said that he does support a policy which prohibits military commanders from asking a person about their sexual orientation. This policy allows gays and lesbians to serve in the
ya know, mr. pace, i don't think someone who's helping to spearhead an unjustified war should really do around calling what other people do immoral..."I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts," Pace said.I CERTAINLY don't condone your immoral acts of war either, mr. pace, but i'm not stupid enough (or desperate to create a diversion from the war in the media) to liken them to adultery.what an idiot."I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is okay to be immoral in any way," Pace told the newspaper in a wide-ranging interview. oh, he's such a tool...do i start my list here of immoral american policies that in no way involve who you sleep with? the rest of the article follows:The chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said he considers homosexuality to be immoral and the military should not condone it by allowing gay personnel to serve openly, the Chicago Tribune reported. It's hard being the minority, especially since one often finds oneself outnumbered. This is no less true in the sphere of religion; and when it comes to the flock of God, atheists are clearly the black sheep. But I haven't always been a member of the god-hating atheist minority. On the contrary, I was actually quite religious as a child. When I was only six years old I decided to enter the priesthood. Of course my parents assumed that it was just a childish phase I was going through, especially when I began holding mass for my Lego blocks and G.I. Joe action figures. But I approached my ministerial aspirations with the determination of a wine stain on a silk blouse. At once I implemented a strict spiritual dietary regimen consisting of the Old and New Testament scriptures, the writings of the church fathers and Veggie Tale videos. My bedroom wall boasted a signed pin-up poster of Mother Theresa and next to my closet stood a life-size cut-out of the pope. Each morning the sun peeked

Today when I picked up my son (by bicycle) at the after school centre I saw some appalling things. There is a sports hall on the school grounds just opposite of the centre where kids do sports in the evening. Just outside of the sports hall (which means inside the school yard area), there where several cars parked. The lazy parents couldn't even park their cars in the designated parking area some 50 meters away. Then I saw something even worse. A father was sitting in his car at the entrance of the school yard, about 250 meters from the sports hall, waiting for his son to come. Of course the engine was running and his son was probably still in the locker room. These kind of things really piss me off nowadays. Parents should be role models for their kids, not shameless misfits. Why do so few parents display in their actions that they are concerned about the future of their children? Why do so few parents bring their kids to school in a morally descent way, that is by foot, bicycle or b
Sir Alex Ferguson is not a man to be messed with, as many people will testify over the years. However, Real Madrid don’t appear to be bothered about the Manchester United manager’s comments regarding their ‘lack of morals’ when pursuing Cristiano Ronaldo. Indeed, the Spanish giants claim that everything has been above board when shamelessly [...]
