Above is my submission to this week's Illustration Friday...topic: Foggy. Not much is foggier than Jeanne Moreau wandering the streets of 1950s Paris...I took the background photograph of the Arc de Triomphe with a plastic Holga camera in 1996. The film sat in a drawer undeveloped until a few years ago.

This painting is an exercise I did a while ago, messing around with the watercolour colored pencils. I think it's interesting that I tend to go through waves with my painting - at least once a year I get really loose, and then a few months later, get almost crazily detail-heavy. I guess it's the times in between where I hit a balance. I like the loose, I like the tight, and I really, really, rea
BV prides itself on being loosey goosey when it comes to days of the week...Friday was Krautastic Tuesday...and now Monday is Illustration Friday.Above is my entry to this week's Illustration Friday collection...the topic was "fierce"...which clearly allowed me to get as Gay Proud as I possibly could without a parade float and an army of drag queens behind me.If you care to do your own "guess-who-

"Crusader Cat" The theme this week for Illustration Friday is: Fierce, and nothing represents fierce like Crusader Cat! He may not look the part, but trust me, fierce is his middle name! Maybe I should have given him a better medal other than the red heart on a chain that says "Crusader Cat"? Nah....that makes him that much tougher!

Over a week ago (I was away in Spain last week) I completed the design of this character for free as part of my ‘freebies’ promotions recently promoted on the main Truly Ace web site. I’m extremely taken with her.

Little Bo Peep is the famously ineffective shepherdess who takes a laissez-faire attitude toward her lost sheep. The Boardwalk. Reliving memories of a bygone era. We stroll along wide sandy beaches and the calming waters of the Atlantic Ocean. I try some salt water taffy. Blech! There just aren’t enough hours in a day. I haven’t had a moment to do any new illustrations for the last 2 weeks. So, this week seemed like a great excuse to post a primitive drawing by Liam. He drew the old lady who swallowed the fly, spider, etc. And here’s another primitive scribble from [...]

Well, since I'm nearly a week behind in writing, here's my submission to this week's Illustration Friday. The topic was homage. It's pretty obvious what this is an homage to - I took the self-portrait this is based on at a photobooth in the Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh five years ago...when I was between beards. This entry's title is an homage too - kudos to those who can identify this quote:"Well, when you're from Pittsburgh, you have to do something."
Here we have a Chickenpants drawn in the Kochalka style. Why?Because the third artist that popped into my head was James Kochalka. (Warhol? No screenprinting stuff. Picasso? Nah...Kochalka? Yes!)I admire his drawing style and tiny paintings, sure. But there's something about his daily American Elf comics that really strikes a chord in me. It no doubt has something to do with the voyeuristic pleasure one gets from going through another person's sketchbooks, or getting to see such a personal glimpse of how they live their lives. He lives in a wonderfully unconventional way. It's great to see snippets of other artist's lives- the good, the bad, the odd... Makes me feel less strange. So although I don't think his drawing style really influences me, his drawings absolutely do. They make me wan
This week's theme for Illustration Friday is homage. I thought of doing all sorts of works for it, but in the end, I decided to revisit some of my older pieces. In particular, I wanted to pull up the Marilyn Undone series.
Above: Photograph of Marilyn Monroe by Arnold Newman taken during the last days of her life.
I must admit that I've never been overtly an enthusiastic admirer of Marilyn

[ Download | 1024x768 ]Hmm..this is the very first time I designing something like this. I know its not looking very good though. I visited a lot of design blog/website everyday and see their artworks including these funky design. I told to myself -> Ohh..that was really easy. But when I'm trying to design it by myself, my head start spinning in the air. Yes, it quite hard if you're a newbie like me. You've to consider a lot of things - elements to use, colors, shapes, placement, typography, theme and so on..So in this illustration, I've use the sunburst shape as the background and the purplish colors as well. Maybe in the next tutorial section I will tell you how do I created the sunburst effect. So don't forget to get a free updates via my blog feed or email. Hehe..Vector illustration det
"She had a list of pet peeves. Despite her best intentions, whenever someone transgressed upon her sacred rules and codes of conduct, she became a real monster - one that foamed and frothed at the mouth as she detailed acceptable and unacceptable behaviour. No one dared make the same mistakes around her twice!"
Honestly, I wasn't quite moved by this week's Illustration Friday theme, Pet
Human Tailgaters. There's nothing more annoying than waiting in line at Disney World for two hours with people who insist on standing so close that I feel them breathing on the back of my neck the whole time. These are the same people who bump me with their shopping cart in the checkout lane at the grocery store. But, maybe I am just as annoying because I always turn around and ask them if they need to get one space in front of me. Nobody has ever taken me up on the offer yet. I love asking that question because they always look a little shocked and immediately move back to give me my personal space. I mean, really, how much time are they saving by standing on my heels? As you can guess, this is a fresh, quick sketch from our vacation... in Disney World. You can follow any responses to this
