A week or so ago, I tried to rebuke the notion that immigrants, and particularly illegal immigrants, take jobs away from Americans.Another common argument against illegal immigration in particular is that illegal immigrants are a burden on taxpayers. According to this argument, illegal immigrants receive far more benefits from our government coffers than they put in since we don't collect taxes from them.I've always had a problem with this argument on a couple of grounds:1. According to a report from Family Security Matters (FSM), more Americans are being killed by illegal aliens than by the ongoing war in Iraq. This report estimates that over 2,100 Americans are murdered every year by illegal aliens, and that this number represents more than 15 percent of all murders that are reported by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
