HAMILTON - After three Butler County car dealerships were accused of selling fake IDs to help illegal immigrants buy cars, a state lawmaker is planning legislation that would add another step to block them from getting temporary license tags or registrations.

IDAHO CITY — Fourteen illegal immigrants were arrested and face deportation after being picked up at an Idaho City hotel.
It happened late Tuesday night and now they’re in the Ada County Jail.
The men were working for a contracted employee of the U.S. Forest Service.
They had been working for about 10 days, with one week left.
According to the Forest Service, the contracted employer is Cutting Edge Forestry Inc. out of Talent, Oregon.
The contractor is required to turn over paperwork regarding their employees and then the Forest Service sends that paperwork to the immigration office.
It’s there that officials realized the men were in the country illegally.

I do like the idea of charging businesses like this with a HUGE fine, and I have serious problems with employers saying they didn’t know.

BOSTON (AP) — The owner and three managers of a New Bedford leather manufacturer that’s won more than $91 million in U.S. military contracts were arrested Tuesday for allegedly hiring illegal immigrants.
The company, Michael Bianco Inc., hired illegal aliens as it tried to meet deadlines to supply backpacks and other products to the military, federal officials said in a court filing. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers raided the company Tuesday morning.
In an affidavit, investigators claimed that owner Francesco Insolia, plant manager Dilia Costa, payroll manager Ana Figueroa and office manager Gloria Melo allowed an undercover officer who told them she was an illegal immigrant to continue working at the plant, and Figueroa advised her how to obtain a fake Social Security card.
Authorities said the informant tipped them off.

There’s a lively debate going on over at BankerVision. James Gardner wrote a post regarding the efforts of Bank of America giving credit cards to illegal immigrants, which I wrote about previously here.
James points out that BoA is offering a service to a niche market, and actually doing it with good business sense. By pricing the product (credit cards) in such a way to cover risks, they are actually facilitating economic activity to a part of the economy that is basically hidden.
I respect his opinion, but I find it detached from what the real heart of the matter is, and that’s illegal immigrants shouldn’t be here in the first place.
