Jim Moore of the P-I asks no one in particular “isn't it time to blow this thing up and start over?” Then he gets some back up from one of the many World Wide Leader’s radio blowhards who said Ichiro is overrated. "Ichiro's a really good player, but the phenomenon has been exposed. He's a .300 hitter with speed with a mediocre on-base percentage,” blowhard said. I’ve already given my opi
Dear Ichiro,Few people are cool enough to be known by only one name. You make it look easy. You even have your first name on the back of your Seattle Mariners jersey. No one else would dare try a move like that. You are powerful. I believe you invented Sudoku. You are probably secretly worried you will turn out like Fabio or Yani or Alf. But you will not become one of those flash-in-the-pan-one-name-only-people. I believe you will be the next Cher...or Batman!Until then, your secret is safe with me.Sincerely,R. LeBaron
Ok this one is one of the ones airing this year, but it’s from Japan and they include a short clip of “The Making Of” the commercial. And yes, he was throwing from Center field for the commercial and nailing the target too.

What will Ichiro's final career MLB numbers look like? Could Ichiro have gotten 4,000 hits had he played his entire career in the Majors?? The FantasyBaseballGenerals tinker with The Favorite Toy to attempt to answer these questions.
To say that Ichiro is a unique, one of a kind ballplayer is merely stating the obvious. A model of consistency at a very high level, Ichiro has posted over 200 hits
小沢一郎Ichiro Ozawa, leader of Japan's main opposition party Minshuto (Democratic Party of Japan), has a real chance of guiding his party to victory over Shinzo Abe and the LDP in the upcoming elections for the House of Councillors on July 29.Indeeed, the wily 65-year-old Ozawa has staked his political future on the outcome - promising to retire from public life if his party fail to take an overall majority. This claim should be taken with some skepticism.Throughout his long and controversial political career as a central player in the perplexing world of Japanese politics over the last four decades, Ozawa has consistently changed tack when events have pushed the Keio University educated, Iwate native into a tight corner.Ozawa entered politics in the late 1960s, was elected to the Diet in 1969, becoming a member of the powerful Kakuei Tanaka faction.Ozawa has twice held key offices in LDP governments, first in 1985 as Home Affairs Minister under Yasuhiro Nakasone and in 1989 as L
When Ichiro signed his 5 year/90 million dollar contract last week, a lot of people crapped their pants and some argued that it was going to ruin baseball. But it turns out that those numbers aren't quite what they seem. Suzuki, MVP of last week's All-Star Game, gets a $5 million signing bonus and annual salaries of $17 million from 2008-12 under the terms of last Friday's deal. Seattle will pay $12 million in salary each year and defer $5 million per season at 5.5 percent interest. Suzuki, who turns 33 in October, will receive the money in annual installments each Jan. 30 starting with the year after his retirement from the major leagues.Because of the deferred money, the average annual value of the contract is discounted to $16.1 million under the provisions of baseball's collective bargaining agreement. In addition, he gets a housing allowance of $32,000 next year, an increase of $1,000 from this season, and the amount will rise by $1,000 each year. He also will be pr
This is a great vid of Ichiro, as a spry 21 year old in Japan playing for the Orix Buffalos. Remember kids, he just signed a 5 year $90 million contact.

Hat tip to Lynch Mob in the comments over at Knuckle Curve.
Well kids, it looks as though Ichiro could end up spending his entire Major League Career right here in the Pacific Northwest. The deal is reported to be in the $100 million dollar range.

It’s only fitting - for the first blog post here after the All Star Break - that the featured player would be Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners. The Kasugai, Japan born Ichiro was this year’s All Star Game MVP, and the only player in MLB history to ever hit an “in the park” home run in an All Star Game. The ever humble Ichiro admitted he thought of leaving the ballpark after playing in the All Star Game because he had a reservation at a restaurant, but he said he was told to stick around as he might be picked MVP.
Ichiro has been ripping it up this year with .359 batting average, 39 RBI’s and 5 home runs. The dynamic center fielder is equally talented out in the field playing defense, stealing bases to advance his team or just stepping up to the plate to lead his team to victory. Currently in his seventh season with the Mariners, Ichiro carries an impressive .333 career batting average with 398 RBI’s and 258 stolen bases. He has also won six str
It looks as though Ichiro could be with the Mariners long term as they get close to a deal, keeping him away from the Free Agent market.
The club is on the verge of locking up Ichiro, its All-Star outfielder whose contract was set to expire after the season, to a five-year contract extension, The [...]
It may have been Barry's house, but it was Ichiro's night, as the soon to be $20 million man was the All-Star game MVP and the American League ended up holding on for the 5-4 victory. Ichiro Suzuki went three for three with two RBI capped off by an inside the park home run, the first in All-Star game history. The Seattle Times reported on Tuesday that the Seattle Mariners, and Ichiro are close to completing a contract reportedly for five years at $100 million, doubling his current salary. The American League had a 5-2 lead going into the bottom of the ninth when Seattle reliever J.J. Putz gave up a two run homer to Chicago Cubs outfielder Alfonso Soriano reducing the lead to one. The Senior Circuit looked like they had the momentum going their way as they loaded the bases off of Angels closer Francisco Rodriguez, but K-Rod got Philadelphia's Aaron Rowand to end the game with a fly out to right. Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford, and Cleveland's Victor Martinez both went deep for the A.L.
It seems that Ichiro has gone and bought himself a spendy loft in LA’s industrial district.
Baseball star Ichiro Suzuki has paid $2.2 million to purchase a condominium unit in the Biscuit Company Lofts building in Los Angeles' Industrial District, according to public records.
In a Big Time Listings exclusive, we can report that the Japanese [...]
First off hat tip to Knuckle Curve for the link. Ichiro sat down with Jon Saraceno of the USA Today and unload a bunch of quote worthy quotes. It would keep me in Quote’s of the Day for weeks, but alas I figured just one post would do it. Of course he skirted around the [...]
The Jaunt considers the many promotions and giveaways at sporting events throughout the season, and hand-picks the best of the week.MLB - Seattle Mariners - Safeco FieldFriday, April 27 vs. Kansas City Royals, 7:05 p.m.- Ichiro Bobblehead Night (First 25,000 Fans). The Seattle Mariners are giving a away an Ichiro bobblehead in which the slick fielder is stockpiling his 6 Gold Gloves. The giveaway also represents the first in a series throughout the season that features 3 other Mariners stars. Collectors will be able to attach all 4 figurines to form part of the Safeco roof and a nice team collectible (Not quite Voltron, but pretty cool nonetheless).
Mariners OF Ichiro Suzuki has yet to record a stolen base in 16 spring games. He was caught stealing in his lone attempt. He is, however, hitting .321 with eight runs, three doubles and six RBI. Don't worry about Ichiro's lack of steals this spring. The team just probably wants to save his legs for the season. It looks as though he will enter the season in the last year of his contract and that could be big for his performance as he will be playing for a new contract. Consider the Fantasy stud one of the top 15 outfielders to go off the board in the first four rounds in all leagues on Draft Day. It certainly helps he's motivated by being in a contract year. Are the customs of Japan that different from America when it comes to the way men dress? Apparently so, if Ichiro is any gauge.
From the PI:
