Well I must say I had enough with trying to find the English equivalent to this Bean, that's so common. Infact I was on the verge of giving up on this post. Not only was I confused, I confused Amma also. I spent a long distance call on trying to find the exact name of this. I was very particular that I was clear on which bean I was referring too. We finally hit the right one. Since I went to the extreme point of goggling this, I might as well list out all the names for posterity...This goes by the botanical name Dolichos lablab L (I have to confess I felt so stupid that this was that), English - Hyacinth bean, Hindi - Bhaja vasu, Telugu - Anumulu, Tamil - Avarai, Kannada - Anvare. Phew!...so many names and yet we feel we know all of them.Coming to the dish, this falls under the "the most wanted dish" at my place. I first had it in one of our family friends place. We planted the bulbs in 2005. We leave them in the soil for the whole year to naturalize. They started to flower at the and of March. In February 2007 we divided the clumps of bulbs and planted them around the garden.
Here’s another photo of the purple hyacinth flowers in my backyard, but now they’ve opened up a little since the last time I shot them. I took this photo with the intent of leaving most of the subject blurry, so I shot at f/2.8 — wide open on my macro lens. I focused (by moving the camera) to leave only the tip of the closest petal sharp. I framed it vertical because the flower was pointing upward, and I intentionally cut off parts of the flower from both sides because it looked better to me that way. The only thing I wish I would have done differently is place the subject a little higher in the frame — but it’s not completely terrible now.
The editing on this photo was part intentional and part accidental (I’ll get to that). The JPEG image (1) turned out okay, but you can see that the white balance is a little warm and the dynamic range is not wide enough for this photo — the highlights and shadows are both clipped a little bit.
Here’s another flower from my backyard: a purple hyacinth (somebody correct me if I’m wrong). I just got out and shot by hand because it’s a short plant — so I got on my stomach and rested my hands on the ground. Once again, we’re overcast today so no harsh shadows. With spring coming so quickly, I wanted to get some shots of these flowers before they opened up all the way. I took most of my shots with a fairly wide aperture because I wanted to try for a blurred shot that was a little more abstract. Plus it wasn’t that light out and I didn’t have much of a choice.
I did my basic editing in Adobe Camera RAW to get the exposures and colors pretty close. Then I applied a curves adjustment layer to the entire image (no mask) to brighten it up a little bit. Then I created two duplicate layers of the merged image. The first layer (2nd down on the stack) I blurred using a Gaussian blur at 25 pixels to completely soften the image.
Hyacinth Garden, Spring "Open Gardens"Belgium
Putting hyacinth bulbs in strict rows is not really my beloved arrangement of hyacinths. Yet if you are walking nearby a hyacinth garden as the one in the picture above, you will get overwhelmed by the hyacinth fragrance. I just love the hyacinth perfume filling the air just a few days before spring.
You can visit hyacinth gardens and other spring bulb gardens in Belgium for free, just ask for "Open Gardens" (Open Tuinen in Dutch, and it beats Keukenhof Tulip Garden: the amazing tulip paradise garden in The Netherlands)

Hyacinth perfume
Whether it is a garden hyacinth or a hyacinth bought in a pot for indoors, I just love the hyacinth fragrance! This perfume makes the hyacinth one of my favorite spring bulb flowers.
Because of the hyacinth’s pervasive perfume, the bulbs used to be very expensive. The bulbs are now grown in Holland and Great Britain and you can buy the hyacinth flower worldwide (they even sell hyacinths in Malaysia around Chinese New Year of which
the 15th night just passed), I really suggest you get this flower plant and enjoy the hyacinth perfume as well (again we should have ‘smellyvision‘ on the Internet…)
Garden hyacinth
Although hyacinths are available from November till April, the hyacinths in the gardens in Belgium and the Netherlands are only now emerging. (see our
I didn’t see them at the florist yet, but in our garden there is against all odds already 1 cute little blue flower: the grape hyacinth (which should start blooming in full force after the crocus… nature has its own ways: flowers don’t read our Spring flower bulb chronology…)
Muscari armeniacum
Muscari are bulbs producing spikes of blue flowers resembling little blue grapes. That’s where the name "grape hyacinth" comes from. Yet muscari blooms much earlier than normal hyacinths, muscari flowers are much smaller and these flowers don’t have any perfume.
Growing muscari is very easy. Grape hyacinths are ideal to grow in pots and they are lasting: each year you have another pot of little blue flowers.

I am not sure which was most important here, the flower or the shadow. I have been ill with a bad cold, almost flu, (oh woe is me!) which is why there have been few paintings lately. So I am sorry, there will be more soon.60 pounds (UK) 116 dollars (USA) and 85 euros (Europe). This includes the postage.
