      Hurricane Katrina: Part II
About 5AM August 29, 2005 (a Sunday morning if I remember correctly), the wind was starting to pick up considerably. Branches from trees were starting to come down and wind gusts were maybe 30-35 MPH at this time. However, this quickly changed a couple of hours later. Ominous clouds started rolling in...I mean OMINOUS clouds. They reminded me of the scene of the tornado from The Wizard of Oz. We

      Hurricane Katrina: Part I
Shortly after my divorce, I moved back to the Alabama gulf coast. I was not sure what I was going to do or even where I intended to live. As luck would have it, my nephew asked me if I would be interested in buying a house together. Buying a home (something I would like to discuss in a later blog entry) can be one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of your life. It can also be a

America's Xmas Present to the Poor and the Victims of Hurricane Katrina
The New Orleans Police used tasers and tear gas to repress protesters who were trying to enter a City Council meeting where a plan was approved to demolish thousands of low-income homes in that city affected by Hurricane Katrina. By a 7-0 vote, City Council voted unanimously for a plan which will demolish the four largest public housing developments in New Orleans, completely getting rid of the low-income housing there. The ruling by the City Council was that the damage to them from Hurricane Katrina was simply too much to allow people to move back in. Demonstrators charged that the demolition is racist because those who would mostly be affected are African Americans. Hundreds of protesters showed up right outside of the City Council meeting as they booed members of the council and screamed at them. In the desperation the group outside began shaking the large metal gates locking them out. The gate was easily broken open. Police moved in with pepper spray and batons, quickly beating b

Hurricane Katrina Donations Could be Many Millions More - eBay Sellers Try in Vain to Help
By Dennis BeckerYesterday I saw a mention in someone’s email ezine about a kind person who had an eBay auction with the proceeds going 100% to help victims of the horrible Hurricane Katrina. It struck a chord with me because I had wanted to set up something similar, but found that the “eBay Giving Works” charity program seems to be terribly flawed for us small sellers. I had researched it the day before, eBay goes through Mission Fish to handle the administrative tasks and distribution. Here in a nutshell is how I understand it works. You set up an eBay auction and pledge a percentage of the proceeds to go to a charity. You pick the one you like. If the auction sells, the buyer pays you, and Mission Fish charges your credit card, taking out $3.00 per transaction for their fees, plus 3%

Debunking the Myths of Hurricane Katrina: Special Report - Popular Mechanics
"NO ONE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SURPRISED.Not the federal agencies tasked with preparing for catastrophes. Not the local officials responsible for aging levees and vulnerable populations. Least of all the residents themselves, who had been warned for decades that they lived on vulnerable terrain. But when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast on Aug. 29, 2005, it seemed as though the whole country was caught unawares. Accusations began to fly even before floodwaters receded. But facts take longer to surface. In the months since the storm, many of the first impressions conveyed by the media have turned out to be mistaken." Debunking the Myths of Hurricane Katrina: Special Report - Popular Mechanics All these myths are created, spread by the journalists who are supposed to dig in to the stories to get the facts. I have been making the case here for years that today's journalists who are brain-washed in libRAT universities are nothing but propaganda tools for libRAT agenda. No, they do not ha

Hurricane Katrina’s Contribution to Man-made Global Warming
Cross posted on Grizzly Groundswell   I suppose it was bound to happen sooner or later. I am talking about the effects of a NATURAL disaster being credited with contributing to global warming. More notably, Hurricane Katrina. No matter how liberal you are, and how much you want to blame George W Bush and his environmental policies for creating Hurricane Katrina it is bullshit, plain and simple. Hurricane Katrina was a natural disaster. For those of you too blinded by liberalism to understand that, let me spell it out for you. A natural disaster is something that was created or formed through nature. Here is the dictionary.com definition: any event or force of nature that has catastrophic consequences, such as avalanche, earthquake, flood, forest fire, hurricane, lightning, tornado, tsunami, and volcanic eruption  Nature is an ongoing process. Nature has a tendency to weed out the weak, nature also has a way of strengthening the survivors. Out of disasters comes rebirth. Nature wil

      Hurricane Katrina: Two Years Later
I sat down to write a post on the two year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina just as I did for the one year anniversary, but I was too mad to write anything that day. I wanted whatever I would write to be more than a rant. I decided to take some extra time to evaluate the progress, check some sources, and make sure that I was providing accurate information. This may be late, but it is no less heartfelt. And yes, I'm still mad.The community in which I reside, some 60 miles inland from the Gulf Coast, has recovered well in the past two years. There has been significant progress, especially during the past year. We have absorbed several thousand additional residents, displaced by the storm, and this has helped to fuel rapid business growth. Money has poured into the area, and although important questions have been raised about where the money has been spent, there have been some undeniable benefits. For example, several new restaurants and retail stores have opened and appear to be doing

Hurricane Katrina Has Nothing On Fats Domino
Saturday night, May 19, was not just your run-of-the-mill, ordinary evening in the unordinary city of New Orleans. It was instead a night not soon to be forgotten for fans, both young and old, of legend Fats Domino. The rock hall of famer, who lost his home to hurricane Katrina in 2005, made a grand showing at a local nightclub that won’t soon be forgotten.

Hurricane Katrina Woes Continue to Plague Bush Administration
According to Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), the United States government squandered the offers of international aid which poured in following Hurricane Katrina. The story appeared in today's Washington Post, and it will be interesting to see if it receives the attention it deserves. In one exchange, State Department officials anguished over whether to tell Italy that its shipments of medicine, gauze and other medical supplies spoiled in the elements for weeks after Katrina's landfall on Aug. 29, 2005, and were destroyed. "Tell them we blew it," one disgusted official wrote. But she hedged: "The flip side is just to dispose of it and not come clean. I could be persuaded."How about some accountability? How about explaining why so much money never reached the Mississippi and Louisiana residents in need?Tags: Hurricane Katrina, Bush, Mississippi, Louisiana, government

Hurricane Katrina Proved That I Don't Exist!
It is one thing to question the existence of supernatural entities for which there is no evidence, but it is an entirely different matter to question one's own existence. Since Descartes, most of us would agree that the fact that there is something which I call "I" asking the question suggests that this "I" exists. Unfortunately, I just ran across an old news story which suggests that I do not exist. This story takes us all the way back to September 1, 2005, right after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast. At the time the story was written, yours truly was...well, just read for yourself. Silly me. Clearly, I thought I existed at that time. The popular adage, "there are no atheists in the trenches" sums up the truth that in times of disaster it is natural for people to turn to God, for help and also for an explanation. At the time I was huddled in my closet listening to the roar of the hurricane overhead and hearing trees breaking in half all around me,
