Allow me to go off topic… just once. Recently one of my best friend and I, had the chance to rescue a hummingbird who went straight into our office window. The pictures were taken 3-4 weeks ago, but it’s only when I copied my SD card over to my PC and looked at the photos on my LCD that I realized how spectacular they were. I had to share.

A bird flew in and settled on a desk before looking around. When it noticed its salaryman surroundings (shady, but sllim-food-pickings), it decided to leave. It immediately crashed into a closed window, then looped out and tried again, and then again, smacking into more and more invisible walls. As it grew crazier in its flight it drew more attention, and people were trying to open all the windows they could. They were also getting brooms and shaking newspapers and waving their arms to try and direct the little bird out. Nothing worked.
Eventually, after an especially loud thump on the window, it fell to the floor. (It remained on its feet, like an aging professional boxer near career’s end.)

This week I organized all the recipes I ever ripped out of magazines or have collected from various websites. As I flipped through binders of recipes, looking for a Mother's Day type of dessert, I came across"HummingbirdCupcakes". Hummingbird cake is a banana cake, with pineapple, coconut and walnuts in the batter. They were really delicious and all 15 of my taste testers agreed! The cupcakes are iced with a cream cheese icing and topped with a dried pineapple slice. Hummingbird on Heliconia latispatha, We see so many hummingbirds this time of year but catching them with the camera is difficult. El Jefe was able to take this photo a few weeks ago with the old camera.
