Even the phrase “household words” was originated by Shakespeare! It’s in Henry V near the end of the great motivational speech with which the young, untested king must motivate his men to fight at Agincourt — outnumbered 10 to 1. (Watch a YouTube re-enaction of this exciting battle.) Several enumerated men’s names he says will become [...]

Creating a Household Budget Brings Your Personal Finances Back in LineBy Brandy SerenaIf your personal finances are a mess don't feel bad because you are not alone. The vast majority of Americans have little idea where their money goes each month other then to pay bills with little left over for savings or investment. Living paycheck to paycheck is the best reason you can have for creating a household budget because it will show exactly what your money is doing.Bringing your personal finances back in line is about taking back control of your money and telling it what to do and where to go. The only way you can take back control is to see where it is going and as painful as adding up all your expenses on a budget may be it is a necessary part of any strong financial plan. Most people and bus
There are at least two dozen brand names marketing dehumidifiers. That's right, you must be feel dizzy when you want to choose it. As you know before, A dehumidifier is a household appliance that reduces the level of humidity in air, usually for health reasons, as humid air can cause mold and mildew to grow inside homes, which has various health risks. Very high humidity levels are also unpleasant for human beings, cause unsightly condensation and can make it hard to dry laundry. Most dehumidifiers can be adapted to connect the drip output directly to a drain, though they usually come with a collection receptable. There are usually sensors to detect when the collection device is full. Dehumidifiers are usually marketed by the amount of water per duration they remove from the air. This site,

I do in my household. For me doing the household finances are something I don't mind, apart from seeing all the bills which means money going out the door. I also do the budgeting, taxes and investments. I have a natural affinity for all things finance, a reason I write this blog, and my wife thinks all this finance "stuff" is extremely boring. She has a good job, deals with numbers in her job, but when it comes to household finances, she is more than happy to leave it to me. I used to be fine with this, but once we had a child I started realizing that should something happen to me, she should be aware of our finances. Also, when it comes to investing and saving, 2 heads are always better than one.The Newyork times recently had a piece on finances and women in which the line I liked best w
Last week I wrote about household net worth, cash flow and budgeting, and creating a financial plan. To add to that chain, here are four ways to improve your household net worth:

Imagine you are planning an exotic vacation. Questions you want to ask yourself is:
When will the vacation start?
Where do I want to go?
What type of vacation do I want?
How much can I afford to spend on the vacation?
In establishing your financial plan you need to ask yourself very similar questions to establish where you are financially, where you want to be in the future, and what financial resources you will have when you get there.

With so many coffees available there are just as many coffee makers on the market. Here we will look at three of the most popular types so you can decide which one will work best for your needs.

Coffee makers come in a variety of styles, variety of sizes, and have many different convenience options. Nothing starts a day off better than a hot, fresh brewed cup of your favorite coffee and nothing can spoil a day faster than a bad cup of coffee. The coffee maker you choose can make all the difference. There are three basic types of coffee makers: percolating, French press, and automatic drip. A percolating coffee maker uses boiling water to brew the coffee grounds to extract the coffee flavor. This method of making coffee tends to give you a tarry, bitter cup of coffee, but there are many people who prefer their coffee made this way. A French press coffee maker has a glass carafe and requires coarse grounds. To make coffee using a French press, you would place the grounds in the bot
Somebody finally is getting wise and tapping into the market of people who want clean homes but like the idea of breathing in toxic fumes or absorbing them through their socks. The people at Clorox have decided to offer a more green, eco-friendly option. You can even pick the stuff up on your weekly (or daily if you are like me) trip to Walmart. Their new product, Green Works is said to be environmentally friendly, natural and biodegradable. Darn it, somebody out there may just be listening! Now, if it just works. I began long ago trying my best to ditch as many chemicals in my daily life as I possibly could. Cancer rates in one branch of my family has been sky high for generations. So high that eco-friendly cleaners are great, but non-carcinogenic is rated even higher. I kno

From HumanEvents.com--Jimmy Z"Washington has no budget problems that higher taxes cannot solve. So seems the message from Congress. The House- and Senate-passed budgets would raise taxes on every American taxpayer by an average of $3,000 per household. But don’t expect Congress to share in the sacrifice: The budget would hike discretionary spending by 8 percent, and not cut a single government program.First, the tax increase. The largest four-year revenue surge in 40 years has pushed tax revenues to 18.8 percent of GDP -- well above the historical average. Yet the House-passed budget tied itself to a revenue baseline that assumes the 2001 and 2003 tax cuts will expire, and that the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) will catch another 20 million Americans. That baseline also assumes the child

One evening a week or so ago Tim and I were surfing the web and talking when suddenly an idea came to us, randomly and out of the blue. ;)An idea to start a points game with the kids. We'll give them points for being nice, points for cleaning up... everything they do (that's nice) will get a point. Some things get extra points like doing the dishes, mopping, vacuuming and sharing with each other. 50 points at the end of the day got them dessert after dinner, 100 points got them extra dessert. (for example 50 points will get you ice cream, 100 points will get you ice cream with chocolate syrup)We started the point game right away the next morning... to our amazement it worked. They were kind to each other and they cleaned the house. (I realize some may call this form of parenting 'brib

An excerpt...When everybody on earth was dead and waiting to enter Paradise, God appeared and said, "I want the men to make two lines. One line for the men who were true heads of their household, and the other line for the men who were dominated by their women. I want all the women to report to St. Peter."Soon, the women were gone, and there were two lines of men. The line of the men who were dominated by their wives was 100 miles long, and in the line of men who truly were heads of their household, there was only one man.God said, "You men should be ashamed of yourselves, I created you to be the head of your household! You have been disobedient and have not fulfilled your purpose! Of all of you, only one obeyed. Learn from him."God turned to the one man, "How did you manage to be the onl

Everyone on the news seems to be talking about this stimulus package and what you should do with it. Some say to spend , others say save. Who cares what they say! I think that it should be a selfish thing and you should use it to stimulate your own household. I think that if you have had any ideas at all for a home based business, that this will be the time to do it. That will really work toward recession proofing your family. You will have a small business that will help you along in the hard times. Everyone needs a backup plan and that is exactly what we are going to use out stimulus package for. Me and my hubby have had some ideas for extra income and that extra money will be just enough to do it with. That extra money will help to keep more money coming into our household. And THAT is
NIH Collaborates with EPA to Improve the Safety Testing of Chemicals New Strategy Aims to Reduce Reliance on Animal Testing Testing the safety of chemicals ranging from pesticides to household cleaners will benefit from new technologies and a plan for collaboration, according to federal scientists from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), who today announced a new toxicity testing agreement. The concept behind this agreement is highlighted in the Feb. 15, 2008 issue of the journal Science (-aaas.pdf) (321K). "I launched the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research five years ago to create collaborations between institutes and centers on big projects that none of them could do alone. In celebration of Rachel’s recent birthday, Kathy and the girls have gone off for a birthday overnight, leaving me and the boys home alone. So far, as befits the men of destiny that we are, we’ve accomplished quite a few things on our list:
Vacuum the dining room
Call all our friends and chat with them
Dust the furniture
Shop for matching clothes for our next family photo
Do seven loads of laundry
Exercise to a twenty-minute aerobic workout video
Clean each of the bathrooms
Cook a healthy, balanced meal with lots of vegetables
Men of Destiny
Oh, wait, that wasn’t our list. Here’s ours:
Litter the dining room with woodcarving chips
Let all calls go to voicemail
Put our feet on the furniture
Shop online for a new computer video graphics card
Create seven loads of laundry
Lay on the couch while watching a Hornblower video
Use each of the bathrooms
Eat pancakes and ice cream
There’s really not much difference between those lists, is there? And here Kat

You often hear people complain about how much effort they have to put into cleaning their homes. They should stop their moaning because all it takes to make household chores much less burdensome is a simple change in attitude. I'm not talking about the bobble-headedly sanguine outlook of "just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down." No, I'm proposing an attitude adjustment that will have a much more tangible effect. For example, I figure that dust forms a natural protective coating on my furniture. Looked at from this perspective, it would be foolish of me to remove it. Needless to say, I don't bother dusting. I'm not stupid.
In addition, if I drop food on the floor, I don't rush to clean it up. The insects that inhabit our homes evolved to live off our droppings, among
It’s interesting to see newly released statistics on household spending in New Zealand - what exactly are we throwing our hard-earned dollars away on?
The Household Economic Survey for the year ended 30 June 2007 was released at the end of last month. The survey provides a comprehensive range of statistics relating to income and expenditure. Some things you might not know about recent household spending trends in New Zealand:
The average weekly total household expenditure was $956.
The three largest components of household spending were housing and utilities (23%), food (16%) and transport (14%).
Households in the Wellington region (our cultural capital) had the highest spend on recreation and culture, at $120 per week.
Average annual household income was $67,973 for the year, a rise of 10.2% from the 2003/04 year.
Perhaps unsurprisingly we’re getting more techno-fied too, with around one in every five households owning more than one kind of computer - that is, a desktop
A chemical found in many plastic products used in households caused accelerated breast development and genetic changes in newborn female lab rats, a condition that might predispose the animals to breast cancer later in life, a new study says.
Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP) is commonly used to soften polymers and plastics. It’s found in everything from [...]
If you think that anything these nutters at Household Hacker is true, then you are mentally disordered. Worse yet, if you try to do one of their experiments and regret what you just did, then you should jump off a cliff now to end your misery. In this post, I'm going to explain why two videos (the most popular ones, by the way), are absolute fakes. These two are "Power Your TV With An AAA Battery", and "Charge Your Ipod With An Onion".Case Number 1: Power Your TV with an AAA BatteryThis one was obviously a fake from the beginning. Its impossible, even logically, to believe a TV would run on 1.5V, when it originally runs on 110V - 240V. This video is fake for 3 reasons...1) 1.5V doesn't equal 240V, and it will never equal 240V. Even if we used a device that controls voltage, 1.5V AC won't work (duh!), as I tried so in the picture below.2) A TV works on AC, or Alternating Current, which comes from your mains plug. A battery is DC, or Direct Current, which won't work with a TV. This is

No. No, you can’t lick Diego. Even if Diego were painted with certified organic soy-based paint...Marcus: What’s certified organic—Me: Oh hey! Let’s build something! Eat Lead, SUCKA!
This week’s topic of the week is going to be about the division of household labor. I’m not sure if we’ve covered it here before and if we have, it’s been a while, so no harm in bringing it up again.
How’s the split in your house? Are there some chores that only one of you typically do? Are there some chores he expects you and only you to do? Are there some you expect only him to do? What about your children, if they are old enough to do chores?
When I was a kid, I remember my dad helping out a lot around the house. My brother and I always had set chores too, but they were pretty easy. I unloaded one shelf of the dishwasher, he did another. I set the table and we took turns collecting garbages around the house for garbage day. I’m sure he had some more to do, but I can’t remember.
Currently, my two year old son is too young for chores. He likes to “help” me around the house, but that’s a whole other topic. I admit I am far fro

With so many brand names in the market for household products, it is important to conduct your research before buying your refrigerator, washing machine, oven, plasma TV..etc. What happens is, you may find what you like in a magazine or the web but after driving all the way to the retail store 1 km down the road, you are told that the shop does not carry that product you wanted. This can waste a lot of precious time and energy. I believe this is what krillion dot com is designed for. For instance, if you are looking for Bosch Washing Machines, a search in Krillion will tell you where to find the model you wanted at a store nearest to your location. I don’t know about you but I think this is a fantastic idea that spares you from an empty trip or disappointing experience.
Well …… the plan this weekend was to:
Go to the school book fair on Friday night with the girls, take time off Saturday from cooking and homework to go pick pumpkins. On Sunday the plan was to carve said pumpkins upon my return home from work.
However, on Friday my knee started acting up again and it was raining. This is the third flare up I’ve had since July and at this point we are thinking arthritis since the offending knee makes crunchy sounds during the attack and because it isn’t always the same knee. While I am grateful that my prescribed anti-inflammatories do seem to help, they also tend to trigger a flare up in my abdominal pain. This may seen like a poor trade off but my tolerance for the later is much higher as it is something I am more used to. Anyway, between the rain and the pain I was a bad mommy and skipped the book fair and asked GamerDude to take the girls to buy pumpkins on Sunday while I am at work. The plan is still to carve
Something that is “wanted by many” but “consumed by few” is our definition of Premiumness. Simply put, premuimness is defined as the inverse of penetration. For example, 41 per cent of all homes in India have Television. Only 2 per cent have a flat TV. Hence, homes with a flat TV is considered to be “premium” by HPI measure. The concept of HPI allocates high scores for less penetrated product categories and services. On the other hand, lower scores to higher penetrated categories or mass consumed categories. Thereby, HPI eliminates judgmental factors and is therefore a more systematic approach, making it applicable across all segments of households, from the “super affluent” to the so-called “desperates”. HPI is a holistic measure of potential, and not just based on few durables. In order to ensure that a specific ownership of a durable or consumption of a particular category of FMCG or services does not result in very high scores, 50 different measures have bee

I have discovered 5 easy steps to taking a million dollar brand name and run it into the ground so it not only loses credibility, but becomes synonymous with the exact opposite of its original intention.Step 1: Create a fantastic concept and sweep it nationwide. Base your concept on giving folks tips on making beautiful household decorations, foods, and crafts out of everyday items. Become so popular that your very name brings to mind a do-it-yourself can-do attitude and quality and sophistication. Be the model by which all domestics aspire to.Step 2: After your reputation is established, begin licensing your name to mass produced merchandise sold in big box stores known for low quality cheap goods sold largely to low income markets. Add a shred of credibility to the project by at least selecting colors, patterns, and themes.Step 3: Abandon the DIY attitude and focus on themes that encourage people to buy more mass produced products instead of making things on their own with everyday h
This is my first post as an Ubuntu user. Let me give you the story how I kicked my Microsoft addiction. Well actually my computers had an intervention! The Admin has been through computer hell these last few days. First my Dell Latitude X1 refuses to charge... So I have been trying to be savvy and save my 7 hour battery just for emergencies. This is not for the faint of heart! After troubleshooting galore I have come to the conclusion that it's the power module on the motherboard of that mother clucker. Dell does not sell that module - but they say it should just be re-soldered. but they won't tell you to do it...Nor will they tell you how to do it with a small soldering gun...The dude continued to tell me that I was probably better off getting a new machine. That caused me to inquire into the price of the board. He said he couldn't be sure but with installation it would be in the area of a G bone...Without the processor!!! I didn't pay a thousand bucks for the whole thing (I love e

He admits that he asked his mistress Ashaji to tell her, but she shirked...lolsAll attempts would be made to make the "parting of ways pleasant", in the words of Ashwani Kumar Aggarwal. It is a more or less unanimous decision, expect for the Ashaji's diplomatic silence.Sawaran Lata (grandmother) has left her with a message that if her food/water is written in this house, she would return. Today as I was working with some of my e-lottey affiliates helping them to build up there residual incomes, we pondered on this question.
Will e-lottery ever become a household name? Or even a BIG name in the worldof network marketing???
If we look at kleeneze which has been around for 70 years, and Amway thats been around for ages as a pure MLM company, can elottery become a global player ????
The product we have is better in my opinion than most of these rivals, the payplan is simplier, and the sponsoring system is a lot easier around the world.
An interesting question that I am to ponder on, and post my answer soon.
Depending how you count it, Ryan and Graceson make the 100th household of the trip! Congratulations boys. This comes during the week of the 11-month mark since leaving home. Indeed, it has been a long time. Ryan and Graceson have been great hosts. They were very considerate of my interests, made some great bacon and eggs, and have possibly become honorary members of my entourage, since we did watch episode after episode of Entourage (the HBO series).
The grand finale of my Morgantown experience was checking out Coopers Rock. You can see across the hills and valleys that surround Morgantown and it becomes a spectacular location to watch a sunset. However, on this particular night the sunset was not that spectacular. It was too cloudy. But we watched the fog and low clouds below us tracing their route through the valleys and along the river.
Another great stop. It was a lot of laying low and being casual. Lots of laughs and goofiness, and a lot of additional sarcasm.
I am very sick. Sick of the fact that sometimes women are just so unfairly treated. Just a few days ago, I had this feeling that comes to me when I was walking at the void deck at my flat. Women give birth to children. Some women died as a result of giving birth. Giving birth is painful and we need to be hospitalized. After giving birth, it takes time for us to be revitalized again and to recuperate from our wounds. What is the job of the men, the so called ‘father’ of the child, the ‘husband’ of the wife?
‘Helping’ out may be just a taste of the fun and having to have some experience of it. In long term, such as waking up to feed babies, bathing babies, feeding babies, and ultimately to doing more household chores, that would be chopping off their legs! Many men are like that. Lazy! Leave all the chores to the wife.
Not all men are like that. I have seen good men. Men that helps the wife, make tea for the wife and do housework too. My second broth
By: Tony Luck We would all like cheaper electricity and gas bills. Most of us shop around for the provider with the lowest electricity, gas or oil prices and leave it at that, but there are other ways to warm your house. Not only could you save money in the long term by reducing your household fuel bills, but you can also do so in a more environmentally friendly way and, in today's world of global warming which produces extreme weather conditions, that is a major factor for many people. Solar heating can reduce your electricity bills no matter where you live. Obviously, where you live will determine how much sunshine you will get in an average day, but even on a cloudy day with the sun low on the horizon you can still benefit. If you live in a warm climate and don't need heating for much of the year, you still may wish to heat the swimming pool. What Equipment Do I Need? An unusual mix of public health advocates, environmentalists and laundry workers joined yesterday in a petition demanding that federal authorities ban a chemical additive found in some household detergents and other cleaning agents. Studies have shown NPEs to be potent gender-benders, believed to be responsible for transforming male fish into females in waterways worldwide.

I have had several ink stains since my toddler has discovered pens. One was on my fabric covered footstool. She wrote all over it. I looked for how to get the stains out and found this, ehow.com.
While it gives great instructions, the best one I found for me was in the comments section. One person used dishwasher detergent. It doesn’t matter what kind. (Although I did ruin a shirt of my daughters because the particular brand I used had bleach in it, so stay away from that if you have colored fabric.) However, on my green footstool which is color safe I assume, it came out like magic. I wet the stain with water, put a dab of detergent on my finger and rubbed it in. With no effort it came right out. Then I rinsed it again and soaked it up. It was good as new! It saved my footstool, because I was ready to throw it out.

Gray water is the water that has already gone through your household system, through your washing machine, bathroom sink, showers and tubs. It makes up 50% of the waste water produced in your house. (Water that has toxins or chemicals in it — kitchen sinks, toilets and dishwashers — is not gray water).
Gray water is safe to use on gardens and lawns, and it’s easy to set-up a collection system so that you can recycle it yourself.
Oh, and by easy, I mean you make a phone call to a professional. You don’t want to end up like those guys on that “World’s Worst Handy-man Show” do you?!
According to The Eagle, the proper steps one must make to install a gray water system are:
Contact your county health department to learn regulations or restrictions on graywater systems.
Ask your plumber for advice on how to construct a system with your household’s plumbing system.
Hire a licensed wastewater system professional or build it yourself.

One to Lie Awake at Night About by Credit Slips - Full Article:At the end of 2006, there was $12,588,200,000,000 outstanding in household debt -- defined as consumer debt and mortgage debt combined. But there was only $11,065,500,000,000 in personal income for 2006. (Those are trillions of dollars.) If the United States spent none of its personal income for one year on "trivial" things like food, shelter, taxes, and medical care, it would still be inadequate to pay off our car loans, home mortgages, credit cards, and other personal indebtedness. This was not true as recently as 2003. Source: U.S. Federal Reserve and the U.S. Bureau of Economic AnalysisRisky second home loans seen weighing on US housing by Reuters - 5/18/07 snip:...Secondary homes are becoming a primary problem for the hard-hit U.S. housing market. The housing industry is worried that a surge of foreclosures seen in the subprime sector could percolate upward. If it does, it is likely to show up next in the "Alt-A" loan
It appears that the PayPerPost concept has spilled over into other parts of our Posties lives. The Buzz Queen has create her own fridge-based marketplace designed to provide incentives for her two girls to preform household chores. Sign me up! I'll take $5 to clean the fridge! I think I should tell Tara about this system. I could see the fridge now - $2 to clean up your piles.Too funny!
It's easy to find cruelty free (meaning no Animals has been used for testing) beauty products. Just go to a health food store or a mega mart like Whole Foods and Wild Oats. You will find aisles of organic, cruelty free shampoos, lotion, face cream.. ect.. for your shopping pleasure. But what about household items such as laundry detergent, dish soap, and such? There's a great company called Method that provides all these products and more. But the best thing is that they are affordable, convenient (you can find it at Target) and pretty hip to boot. You don't have to look like some crunchy granola eating environmentalist. (Not that I have anything against Granolas)Here are some facts about Method ProductsBiodegradable: the environment doesn't need any more toxics released into our atmosphere and Method solves that problem by using natural ingredients like Soy, Coconut and even Grapefruit. I have the All Purpose Cleaner and it smells so natural and delicious!!! and cleans fantastica
Today I’m cheating.
I got an email from Alex’s grandma yesterday that included some great household tips, many of which I had never even thought of before. They are so good, that I’m actually going to use them for today’s post. I’d offer originial credit if any was given on the email, but since none is that I can tell, you guys can all thank Grandma for this one!! I’ve also highlighted those that are directly related to kids and parenting.
Bed Sheets
After drying sheets, put both sheets and one pillowcase in the other pillow case. Fold neatly in a square. Next time you change sheets, you just take the one pillow case and all the sheets and pillow case are inside. No need to look for matches. (This one I am all excited about. I HATE searching out pillow cases in my linen closet.)
Clean your glass shower
To clean the glass in your shower easily, apply lemon juice to the
glass with a sponge. Then, take newspaper and wipe the lemon juice off the gla

Happy Friday! This is going to be a bit of a rambling post, one with no real deep thoughts. Deep thoughts are a bit much for this girl who is trying to sell her house and scrubs the toilets almost daily, ok? Our house has been shown twice now; the second time caught me off guard. The house looked O.K. but definitely not like the first time it was shown (I even baked cookies for the first showing). But I told manly man that the Lord already has picked out who is going to buy, so everything is working according to His plan. I tell myself that almost hourly….soon I will “feel it.” (saying that tongue in cheek) But please forgive me if I don’t clean the bathrooms to my future new house for a month, I have scrubbed and mopped, and Windexed my little heart out. I have two funnies to share. First one was so funny the teacher to my middle son had to call me at night to share (I love those kind of calls from teachers). Anyways (and remember middle son is in the gifted c
An efficient household budget helps to keep track of all your expenses and manage your finances for a happy and peaceful life. Moreover, budgeting is a key to saving money thereby accommodating and making provisions for those things that you truly need. Always begin with designing an inventory to ensure where you can cut off your dollars. The easiest way to start budgeting and subsequent money saving is to begin with the biggest items first, followed by scrolling down the scale to the inexpensive things. Most people are not able to draw out the difference between wants and needs and often end up with taking one for another. Needs carry a full line of products that is utmost necessary to live including food, clothing, shelter, and transportation. On the other hand, wants categorize those things that make our life better. This does not necessarily mean that you cannot have the things that you desire, but being meticulous is a much better option than busting your budget in the process.Try

2. There is at least one person in this world

3. Some Grimm’s fairy tales are kind of
gruesome and some are just completely deranged. Synopsis of “The Willful Child”:
Child is bad. God doesn’t like bad child. God kills child. Community buries child.
Child’s hand refuses to be buried.
Child’s hand keeps popping up.
Mother finally shows up. Beats

Besides hiring a maid, who we would probably not be able to pay on a timely basis, what are some tips and techniques you can share with others regarding keeping control over the house. Feel free to discuss your concerns as well. Others like you may have found the solution that will work for you.My biggest problems are laundry (my two girls and I have tons of clothes, and very few of them are clean at any one time), the kitchen, and the office. Clutter, clutter everywhere. I have bought all the books about organization, but can't seem to stick to a system. Anyone out there with a creative, workable idea???

What do you do if your nanny or housekeeper tells you that she must leave the country to visit a dying relative?
