A group of graduates, well established in their careers, were talking at a reunion and decided to go visit their old university professor, now retired.
During their visit, the conversation turned to complaints about stress in their work and lives.
Offering his guests hot chocolate, the professor went into the kitchen and returned with a large pot [...]
Serendipity frozen hot chocolate is a signature dish at the Serendipity 3, nestled in the heart of the upper east side of New York. The place is a general store and restaurant combined with a coffeehouse and soda fountain and serves the most famous dessert in New York.Serendipity New York was founded by Stephen Bruce and his two partners, Calvin Holt and Preston “Patch” Caradine in 1954. Jackie Kennedy even wanted to serve the dessert at a White House event and he would not give his secret away.Serendipity frozen hot chocolate is an icy-chocolate type of dessert served in a fishbowl-shaped goblet, topped with whipped cream, shaved chocolate and served with a

Forgive my absence, but it’s hard work trolling the streets of Paris in search of food, culture and ways NOT to spend the increasingly expensive Euros.Too much to tell, not enough time.I had a low key itinerary planned. I HAVE been in Paris when I’ve scheduled every single second, including a fourth museum of the day, in case 1, 2 or 3 didn’t work out. (That DOES take planning, especially on Mondays and Tuesday when most museums are closed.) A, my great friend and best excuse for visiting Paris, is moving and so this trip was our last hurrah. We decided to do what we do best – wandering the streets, making a few planned stops and dilly-dallying, usually with rewarding results. We had a quick coffee and went off to visit the The Fragonard Perfume Museum. It was in a beautiful 15
Everyone I've talked to agrees that Easter is too early this year. Not that we can help it. St. Patrick's Day and Easter in the same week is wrong. The presence of two parades of that magnitude in New York City in the same week is wrong. With the winter chill still lingering, wool coat collars turned up against the wind, I'm not feeling appropriately pastel. I'm willing, nevertheless, to make the best of the situation at hand. In that spirit, I decided that nothing would be better this afternoon than a winter cup of hot chocolate with a couple of melting yellow Peeps. It's prettier and tastier than I imagined, and the Peeps looked sweet during their final sleep of drowning chocolate death.Edible Easter Creations in the CityIn strolling about the city, I've taken note of some of the fine East
A hot chocolate pudding makes an especially welcome dessert on a chilly day - its chocolatey richness is a perfect comfort food. This recipe's simplicity is great; it's so simple, and yet so decadent.INGREDIENTS:250 grams plain chocolate, with at least 70% cocoa solids, cut into small chunks 250 grams unsalted butter, diced, plus extra for greasing 6 large eggs 5 large egg yolks 125 grams caster sugar, plus extra for dusting 75 grams plain flour PREPARATION:Grease 8 individual ramekins (or one large ovenproof dish) with butter and dust with caster sugar. Put the chocolate and butter in a heatproof bowl and place over a saucepan of simmering water, making sure the water doesn't touch the base of the bowl. Leave until melted. Meanwhile, using an electric mixer on full speed, whisk the eggs,

If you spend much time with me in real life, you'll soon learn that I love hot chocolate. Today while running errands in sunny San Diego, we passed a Chocolatier. I wandered in...and purchased a cup of hot chocolate. I wandered out...and took a sip.Oh! It was amazing. The taste, the smell, the texture, it even looked lovely; it was nothing like any hot chocolate I've ever had. I gave some to my brother, who agreed with me. It was velvet luxury, a fairy tale in a mug, a beverage fantasy. As we indulged, I begged my brother to write my brother spontaneously broke out into the following hot chocolate induced sonnet:Ode to the World's Best Hot Chocolateby David Were I to travel the whole world roundIn search of luscious liquids cold and hot,Would I find any more profoundThan thou, most precious chocolate? What force or being wondrousHath ordained our wandering paths to cross? To explain events so serendipitousMy puzzled intellect is at a loss But the thoug
Because of the weather outside (preparing itself for snow) and the need to cocoon that comes with it, I prepared my self some old fashioned home made hot chocolate. Enjoying it in my pyjamas, I thought of sharing the recipe with you. So here goes:INGREDIENTS:2 ounces of chocolate powder (+ 2 squares of Toblerone if wanted)1/3 cup sugar (if the chocolate powder is not already sweetened)4 cups milk1/2 teaspoon vanillaWhipped cream (for those who want a richer taste and texture)Marshmallows (for those who like it)PREPARATION:Place chocolate, sugar and milk in a saucepan over medium-low heat.Heat, stirring, until chocolate melts (include the 2 squares of Toblerone at this stage) and mixture is well blended.Add vanilla and the whipped cream; pour hot chocolate into cups. Put marshmallow on top. This hot chocolate recipe serves 4. Of course my recipe does not rival with the famous hot chocolate from the “Barbare” in Lausanne where the chocolate texture is so sick that the spoon stands on
Some people are addicted to coffee, some to Coke but my vice of choice is hot chocolate--can't get enough, I'd drink it all day every day if I thought I could handle the calories.Last year Andrew and I got in the habit of going out to get "the Good Stuff," the real hot chocolate that they make at espresso stands and restaurants and after sampling around town I determined that Borders Books' coffee shop has the best. Though my opinion may be swayed by the six inches of whipped cream, white chocolate shavings, drizzling of chocolate syrup and stick of dark chocolate that they pile on the top. It's the drink that eats like a dessert. Perfect. But Lucy, my fellow hot chocolate addict, got me thinking. Could I replicate this sensual experience in the comforts of my own kitchen? There's a store here in Anchorage, M & M Distributors, that sells wholesale restaurant products like syrups and supplies for espresso stands. I buy my yeast there because it's the best place in town to
This is a recipe from James McNair's Pie Cookbook that I received as a wedding gift and have been making for the last 15 years. I've even made up the filling and served it as a pudding or parfait, it's that good. And I kind of like my picture of it too . . .frozen pastry crust4 egg yolks, lightly beaten1 cup granulated sugar1/2 teaspoon salt5 tablespoons all-purpose flour1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder2 cups milk3 tablespoons unsalted butter1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract1 cup heavy whipping cream1/2 cup powdered sugar1/4 teaspoon vanilla extractIn a saucepan, combine the egg yolks, sugar, salt, flour and cocoa powder and beat until smooth. Slowly whisk or stir in the milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens, about 8-10 minutes. Reduce the heat to very low and cook until quite thick, 3 or 4 minutes longer. Remove from the heat and add the butter and stir until the butter melts. Stir in the vanilla. Transfer to a large bowl and cover wit
1. You didn’t rest well the night before and consequently you wake up with a raging headache and eyes that ache from lack of sleep.
2. You also woke up to the lovely sound of jackhammering at 6:53 in the morning.
3. The day is gloomy, dark and rainy.
4. You have to do an 11 point turn to get out of your parking space in the garage because the selfish and spiteful lady you park next to feels like she has to park 5 feet away from the wall even though the manager has told her that this is not acceptable.
5. You get all ready to go to the gym, drive there, get your 36 pound kid out of the car, go to the front desk and they inform you that the Kids Club Attendant has had a minor emergency and therefore there is no child watch for the day.
6. You fill up your tank and gas costs $3.39 a gallon.
7. You go to the grocery store and the coupons you used added $15.24 to your bill instead of (more…)

Ick. Felt a cold coming on over the weekend, took all kinds of overthe counter meds to try to nip it in the bud, but it appears I didn'tcatch it quite in time. Well, as long as it doesn't become a monster,I can deal. Had a pretty interesting night at the restaurant yesterday.Michelle came by with some of her friends; I don't see her quite asoften since she has gotten a 'real' job! Not that her other jobs in thepast weren't on the up and up, but it seems this retail cell phone gigis the one which really made her realize her work ethic potential. Now if we could just get her personal life in gear.....and she knowsexactly what I am talking about.....stop settling girlfriend. Anyway, also the dear Thompsons dropped by. I feel bad for them, as theprevious time they visited someone hit their car in the parking lotand of course ran off. Sadly, as my regular readers know, the restau-rant parking lot has had its share of unreported dings. Phillip hadhis vehicle hit, and Brandy has had hers

Hot chocolate is so sexy (no not that old 70's band). Tonight I was up late finishing an essay, and decided to treat myself. I heated up some milk on the stove then opened a fresh jar of powdered chocolate. When the seal broke and the scent wafted beneath my nose I felt like I'd gone to heaven. I dipped my finger in the jar and licked it off- twice. Mmmmm. Now if only I had
