  Horton Hears a Who! is a 2008 CGI animated film based on the 1954 book by Dr. Seuss. It stars the voices of Jim Carrey and Steve Carell. It is being produced by Blue Sky Studios and released by 20th Century Fox. It is set to be released on March 14, 2008. An imaginative elephant named Horton (Jim Carrey) hears a cry for help coming from a tiny speck of dust floating through the air. Suspecting there may be life on that speck and despite a surrounding community that thinks he has lost his mind, Horton is determined to help. Steve Carell voices the mayor of Who-ville, an unseeable yet nice person who cares for his town and his people. One day, Horton the elephant hears a cry from help coming from a speck of dust. Even though he can't see anyone on the speck, he decides to help it. As it turns out, the speck of dust is home to the Whos, who live in their city of Whoville. Horton agrees to help protect the Whos and their home, but this gives him nothing but torment from his neighbors, who refuse to believe that anything could survive on the speck. Horton Hears a Who is the most disturbing of Dr. Seuss' books. I remember reading it as a child and agonizing over the picture of Horton looking for the worlded flower in an enormous field of similar ones. The movie version contains that excruciating scene, but turns out to be much more delightful than frustrating. If you couldn't spare the 10 minutes to read the book, Horton Hears a Who is about an elephant who finds a speck of dust that contains, deep in its core (the animation does a wonderful explaining the speck-world's isolation as well as why only Horton can hear the Whos- his elephant ears.), another world. We took the boys to a matinee showing of this today since they were off of school due to a Superintendents conference. I must say that this was such a good movie! I would expect nothing less from a movie based on a Dr. Seuss book. It was a really good, laugh-out-loud family movie. Jim Carrey and Steve Carell were hilariously funny in this heartwarming tale. Horton shows us all that one person can make a difference. If you have a chance to see this movie, I would highly recommend it!
