This must be the dreaded scandal fatigue. But just when I was feeling tempted to settle for the paltry encouragement in something as entirely meaningless as the demise of yet another administration enabler like Katz, who, for all his weasely ways, is finally only the dull instrument of his boss's heartlessness, a story came my way that gave me a moment of hope. But first, the bad news. The bad news

E!Online has the picture of the two of them together here. Kristy eventually left the lable to pursue “indepedent projects.” It’s hard to imagine Britney mentoring anyone now, but back in the day she really was at the very top of her game. For anybody who saw my last blog post about my Dad's brain tumor, but hasn't been following our new family blog for updates on his progress, I wanted to do a quick update.Tina and I are back home in Northern Virginia after spending about a week in Charlotte with Dad and Mom, my brother Sean and his fiancee Anna, our Aunt Joan, and (for part of the week) our Uncle Edd and Aunt Linda. Tuesday and much of Wednesday were spent at the Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, where our expectation was that Dad would be undergoing brain surgery to try to remove as much of the tumor as possible. The risks of this surgery were scary: Dad might lose his ability to speak, or large chunks of memory, or mobility, etc. Literally just before the surgery (during pre-op), we found out that the plan had c
You might recognize her name from all the articles about the Veterans Expressway and the Suncoast Parkway. Now you'll have to get used to seeing turnpike spokeswoman Joanne Hurley quoted in stories about the Pasco School Board election.
Hurley, 63, announced early today that she will pursue the District 2 seat that board chairwoman Marge Whaley is leaving after four terms. See her press release here.
A former teacher in Hillsborough schools, Hurley has worked in state and county government for the past several years. She also has served on the Pasco comprehensive plan review committee. "Everything that I've done leads up to this decision," said Hurley, a Land O'Lakes resident who would face Peter Hanzel of Wesley Chapel and Kurt Conover of Land O'Lakes in the fall. "I think I bring a good understanding to the table."
So, too, does Whaley, who said she would support Hurley's candidacy: "She brings us the best of both worlds."

It has been reported that X Factor hopeful Niki Evans has got a pop singer past.
Pete Waterman who is a former Pop Idol judge has said to have worked with Niki Evans when she was just eighteen and she released a single called ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ which made it into the top 50, and she also sang on a TV advertisement for Coca-Cola.
Viewers saw Niki who is now 34 auditioning for X Factor in the first episode of the talent series last night impressing the four judges with a performance of Whitney Houston’s ‘I Will Always Love You’.
An X Factor spokeswoman has insisted that Niki did not break any rules by applying for the show.
She explained: “As long as an artist isn’t under a current recording contract they are allowed to audition for the show she went on to say that people like Niki are the reason why Simon Cowell invented The X Factor. She’s tried all her life and this is her second chance.”

The surge of coalition and Iraqi operations in Baghdad has produced hopeful signs, President Bush said today at the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. Bush said the coalition and the Iraqi government are making progress in Anbar province, and this is spreading to Baghdad. He also spoke about the Iraqi government's need to pass legislation, and the need for Americans to display patience. The Sunni-dominated Anbar province was the seat of al Qaeda in Iraq six months ago. Bush said critics cited the province as the example of American failure in Iraq. "About the same time some folks were writing off Anbar, our people are methodically cleaning Anbar's capital city of Ramadi of terrorists and winning the trust of the local population," he said. "In parallel with these efforts, a group of tribal sheikhs launched a movement called 'The Awakening' and began cooperating with American and Iraqi forces." The confluence of coalition forces and Iraqi sheikhs worked against al Qaeda. "To capital

Felipe Massa believes Ferrari should be able to challenge for pole position in Montreal, despite being outpaced by McLaren during free practice on Friday.
Fernando Alonso dominated both 90-minute sessions but a late flier from Massa elevated him to second place on the afternoon timesheet.
The Brazilian was encouraged by the steady improvement in his car’s handling – even though it still left him more than half a second adrift of the world champion’s time.

Drop him. Sell him. Get rid of him I don't care how. He's lazy. He doesn't care. He's a rubbish captain. He's regretting not going to Barcelona when he had the chance. All accusations levelled at our esteemed leader this season. Every single one of them in my eyes, ridiculous. We are talking really of: Our best ever player. Our top scorer ever. A man that without we would not have become invincible. A man who led us to our first ever Champions League final. A man who by the end of his contract will have served us for more than 10 glorious years. ENGLAND all rounder Andrew Flintoff faces a fitness battle for the first Test with West Indies at Lord's on Thursday.
He has had a recurrence of the ankle problems which have dogged his career, but remains "hopeful" of taking his place.
Flintoff felt discomfort in his left ankle, which has been operated on twice in the last three years, while bowling nine overs for Lancashire against Hampshire at the weekend.
He has been forced to have a scan, which will determine if he can play at Lord's.
"We'll probably know more after I've run around and done what I need to do at practice, but I'm hopeful for Thursday," said Flintoff.
"Sometimes when it's the ankle the alarm bells start ringing a little bit, but I'm still hopeful.
"The operation was on the back and on the inside and this is more on the outside. I had a bit of discomfort in the same sort of area in the winter so it's not something completely new.

So far we've been flooded with new and exciting bright colours this year, but there's one other I'd just love to see more of: lime green. Not just any green - it's bright, like the cobalt blue, fuschia and the bright orange and yellow we've seen. I know, this seems to go a bit against my more... boring? classic? dull? style - but really, I do like colour too. Just if it's worked with other plainer colours. So no, last year's pea- and grass-greens won't do. It has to be bright. Bright. Personally, I'm a much bigger fan of lime green than of normal, duller and darker greens (except pale jade colours). I think it's actually really rather flattering with a tan - here's Paris in a good example (wow, not often I think that about Ms Hilton):Or, for swimwear, be noticeable and sexy (yes, even in green, it's possible) in this Blugirl swimsuit:I think this colour works well, from dresses and beachwear / kaftans as seen above, to a short trench coat (teamed with white) or summer tote o
I am on a mission to get published somewhere. If you are new here you may not know that I am working on a children's novel that I really and truly hope to have published in the next few years. The children's market is incredibly hard to break into no matter what but it's even harder if you are a nobody who has never been published anywhere (self-publishing doesn't count you see) and no one knows you from a paper boy.So my little job right now is to become published somewhere out there in periodical land. I have sent in one submission so far and had it rejected (which I was completely prepared for and spilt no tears over it because I was aiming really high.) This time I am aiming just a wee bit lower but aiming none the less. I sent in a short article to MOMsense magazine; the official magazine of MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers). So I guess if they like it I should hear something possibly within the next 12 weeks. Once again I am prepared for rejection but still hopeful. I love

I know that we are squarely within the honeymoon period and past actions should speak petty loudly, but I wanted to write this before all the optimism and bipartisan dissolves. President Bush has really impressed me with the way he has handled himself after the midterm elections. There were no signs of petulance, or anger and the comments he has made have seemed very open, honest, and humble. I think the whole country appreciates the way he has responded.
Bush wasted no time in holding meetings with the new speaker of the house and the new majority leader in the senate and has publicly called for
My attitude about this is that there is a great opportunity for us to show the country that Republicans and Democrats are equally as patriotic and equally concerned about the future and that we can work together.
Likewise, his stated openness to "new ideas on Iraq" from the incoming democratic majority sounded sincere. And even his candidness about the timing of Rumsefeld's "resignation"
