Today I wanted to share a great article with you by Lew White. In this article, he goes into significant depth in talking about homosexuality and the Scriptures. I don't always agree 100 percent with everything Lew White puts out, but he writes some incredibly well informed articles, and I think that you all will really benefit from this particular article:---- - arsenokoites: what it really means

Males did shameful things with males and thus recei

That is the title of a recent post by candidate for PC(USA) moderator Bruce Reyes-Chow. Predictably, his post has received a great deal of response. The quick answer is that some of us can and some of us cannot. I am all for agreeing to disagree in thought and in practice. I wrote about this very thing in 2001 when the presbyteries were considering removing G-6.0106b and the Authoritative Interpretation. That would have allowed a level playing field for people to agree to disagree and would have allowed all to act from their own consciences. It failed. The Theological Task Force report tried the agree to disagree approach by keeping the (in my view) discriminatory language but allowing for scruples of conscience. The General Assembly passed it, yet how that will be interpreted in

The Southern Poverty Law Center has included Mass Resistance in its list of hate groups because of the organization's opposition to homosexuality, an opposition which is rooted in both Divine Revelation and Natural Law. This is ridiculous on so many different levels. What is particularly ironic, however, is that Mass Resistance doesn't even meet the SPLC's definition of a hate group: "All hate groups have beliefs or practices that attack or malign an entire class of people, typically for their immutable characteristics." (Source: ).And what is the definition of "immutable"? The word itself comes from the Latin: in - not and mutabilis - mutable. The American Heritage Dictionary provides us with an excellent definition: "Not subject or susceptible to change." But can one honestly suggest tha

I'll try to keep this one brief too. I'm not a Biblical literalist. That said, many sincere Christians find in the Bible a clear basis for concluding that gay sex is sinful - and I'm willing to concede that they could be right. I don't think that's a crystal clear conclusion based on the evidence of Scripture, but I can understand why sincere Christians come to that conclusion. Why don't I think it's clear? Well, here's some of my thinking on using scripture to decide this sort of thing:There are a handful of references to gay sex in the Bible, all of them negative. There are somewhat more than a handful of references to gluttony in the Bible, nearly all of them negative. (I say "nearly" because I seem to remember that Jesus was accused of that vice, but it was maybe just sour grapes

There are many reasons to be against homosexuality that are not Bible related.Homosexuals have a higher STD rate than straight people.Homosexuals engage in reverse gender roles and are therefore mentally unstable (because there is no mutated Gay gene in our DNA that says homosexuality is normal).Homosexuals make up the vast majority of paedophiles.Homosexuals are actively militant in their views and literally try to force people (either by protest or arrest) to accept their degenerate lifestyles.Homosexuals do not contribute anything positive to the world's genetic pooling. Homosexuals actively recruit children into organizations such as NAMBLA. Homosexuals are usually radical leftists, Liberals, socialists, communists or Marxists. Homosexuals are more likely to commit suicide than anyone (even crazy postal workers, pissed off spouses and depressed teens).I could go on all day about it.Have you ever thought that if it wasn't a genetic defect (which it isn't), it is social brainwash
The city museum of The Hague has decided not to include in an exhibition a work of art that may offend Muslims, full story over at the Gates of Vienna.
Actually I am surprised that the museum can display any art at all considering everything is offensive to Muslims. What is astonishing is, according to the tenets of their religion, Muslims should not be frequenting museums that display the human form at all, since it could easily lead to idol worship, in which case who are we protecting from offense?
The photo by Iranian artist Sooreh Hera, entitled Adam and Ewald, shows two gay men wearing masks of the Muslim prophet Mohammed and his son-in-law Ali.
The Gemeentemuseum’s director Wim van Krimpen told reporters that he will not exhibit Adam and Ewald because "certain people in our society might perceive it as offensive." In addition, he suspected that the photograph was intentionally made to insult or hurt and that its purpose was "meant to attract attention."
Of course,
Vince and Pauline Matherick, the Christian couple from Chard, Somerset, who last week were at the centre of national media attention when Somerset Social Services ordered them to sign up to a new Equalities Promise saying they would have to agree to facilitate and promote a homosexual lifestyle yesterday won the right to have their personal convictions and conscientious objections recognised.
The couple met last Wednesday with Social Services leaders and secured an agreement to this effect. The Mathericks hope now to continue to foster children as before.

As soon as I heard about the fires ravaging the San Diego area, I knew it was just a matter of time before Christian extremists would say that this was the punishment of some god. It did not take long for James Hartline to oblige. Now the California fires can join national disasters such as Hurricane Katrina among the long list of ways a god is supposed to have punished humanity for progressive social values. It seems that this particular god favors hate, intolerance, discrimination, and the like. Such a god hardly seems worthy of admiration, much less worship.H/Ts to Unscrewing the Inscrutable and Pandagon
Committed Christian couple, Vince and Pauline Matherick, have been told they will not be re-registered as foster carers following their refusal to sign an Equality policy which forbids discrimination on the grounds of homosexuality. Mr Matherick, a 65 year old minster at South Chard Christian Church and his wife, Pauline, have been fostering since 2001 and have looked after 28 children. Earlier this year they were asked to agree to a new Equality policy which would require them to say that homosexual relationships were equal to heterosexual marriages if asked by a child about such relationships.
Mr Matherick explained that he and his wife had never discriminated against anybody, but that they would not teach children about the practice of homosexuality because the Bible condemns any kind of sexual practice outside of a marriage relationship.

It is interesting to note there are so many governments and individuals around the world who are still reluctant to acknowledge that gays and lesbians are “equal in dignity and rights”. Being gay or lesbian is not seen as a right but as a wrong. Homosexuality is considered a sin, or an illness, an deviation in ideology or a betrayal of one’s culture.Governments and individuals defended their stand against the repeal in the name of religion, culture, morality or public health. Homosexuals are branded “perverts” and “paedophiles”, and AIDS is labelled a “gay disease”. Homosexual relations are “anti - Christian”, anti - Islamic”etc. Wouldn’t such discrimination make this group of people “less than human”?Campaigning for lesbian and gay human rights might be seen by some as a controversial arena of human rights activism. A simple blog post from an ex-Hollywood publicist, Jonathon Jaxson, making the rounds on the internet started it all. According to sources, Ledger reportedly locked himself in a bathroom and vomited for three hours straight upon hearing the rumor that Jake Gyllenhall is a homosexual – from more than one hundred of his closest friends.
“My friends think I’m a fag now. I get up to 30 text messages every hour,” comments a broken Ledger.

At a debate focusing on issues important to the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) community, Gov. Bill Richardson responded to a question on the nature of homosexuality. When asked by Melissa Etheridge if homosexuality was biological in origin or a choice, Richardson stated, "It's a choice."Although he later retracted this statement (using the rather lame excuse that he misunderstood the question), it's puzzling to hear this line come from the mouth of Richardson. Opponents of gay rights often argue that individuals "chose" to be gay and therefore are not entitled to any special treatments. What is not addressed, though, is why some would make this choice?Surely, a person wouldn't chose to be gay just to be denied rights, subject to societal scorn, and victimized in hate crimes. And if the choice was simply a choice of sexual partners, why wouldn't an individual chose to enjoy the full rights and privileges of a heterosexual and indulge in whatever sexual escapades he
Got your attention? This post is not about homosexuality, but sexual ethics. Read the first post here. I am reviewing Marie Fortune's book, Love Does No Harm: Sexual Ethics for the Rest of Us.Relationship Ethics: Part II Doing Least Harm-- a review of chapter two of Marie Fortune's Love Does No Harm: Sexual Ethics for the Rest of Us (New York: Continuum, 1998) "Love does no harm to another." (Romans 13:10) This is the basic principle of Fortune's book. It also sounds like the Hippocratic oath. "Do no harm." Fortune understands that this is a "negative" ethic and that "doing most good" might be a loftier and more worthy goal. This was my first thought as well. Fortune is a realist. She suggests that doing least harm is about what we might expect to actually achieve. But if we take this principle seriously, the implications are deeper than we might first realize. Fortune suggests that within our patriarchal culture, there is a blurring between love and
Should the church ordain "homosexuals?' Should it recognize committed relationships between men and men or women and women. Should it allow lovers of the same sex to worship or take communion in a Christian community? These questions are usually framed in terms of a biblical morality: the Bible condemns homosexuality and so must we. And yet we resolve very few, if any, other moral or sexual issues in this way. The church has found ways of condemning sexuality that is accepted by the Bible (concubinage and polygamy, for example) and accepting what the Bible unambiguously condemns (adultery and divorce, for example). No one proposes we return to the Holiness Code's assessment of adultery and its consequences (stoning women who sleep with someone who is not their husband). Neither is Lot's proposal that his daughters be given to a crowd of men to be gang raped (Genesis 19:8) taken up in our reflections on family values. We do not look to Canada and Mexico, as neighboring na
Paul, in particular Romans 1:26-27, has been used as the central and defining text against justice for gay and lesbian people. Here it is:26 For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error. You should read it first in the entire context of Romans 1. O.K. There it is. I can't blame it on "liberal Paul" or "conservative/reactionary" Paul. It is the historical Paul, as far as I know. So, what do we make of it? I wish this passage was not in the Bible. I wish Paul had not used this example to make his larger point in Romans 1 that we have all fallen short of God's will. But, nevertheless, it is there. Paul makes the claim that both women and men gave up what was "natural" for what was "u
To those of you who expected a religious or scientific debate on this matter, I hate to disappoint you. I’m not going to approach this subject from either a religious or scientific point of view. Instead I am going to discuss this sensitive topic and draw from the best possible resource at my disposal - my own personal experience.
I wasn’t going to write on this subject, I didn’t want to. But certain signs kept pointing me in its direction. First, there was the special on Sixty Minutes last week called, “Nature vs. Nuture.” Then I got into an intellectual conversation with another 451 blogger who offered her own insight based on personal experience. I knew then that I wanted to write about whether homosexuality was a choice, but I also knew that I didn’t want to base my article merely on statistical information, scientific jargon or religious doctrine.
What I wanted to do was look inward and decide whether or not I had made a conscious choice to be a le
I remember having to write a paper on homosexuality in my religion and sexuality course in college. This was before I came out but had already decided that yes, I was in fact a big fat scary lesbian. I chose the topic of homosexuality because it “spoke to me,” or at least that’s what I told other students. Truth be told, I chose that topic because I considered myself to be a spiritual person of sorts and wanted to know what was really said about being gay in the bible. Was it really as horrible as some people made it out to be?
I found out, through my own research and interpretation that there were many, MANY, contradicting statements regarding the ever-thought provoking topic of homosexuality. And nowhere did I find the complete, written sentence: homosexuality is wrong.
There are things that are said and plenty of things that are left unsaid.
A good resource to look at is “What the Bible Says - And Doesn’t Say - About Homosexuality.” It’s written by Rev. Mel White,
You just can’t please gay activists. After arguing for years that homosexuality is the result of biological and genetic factors, activists have raised a ruckus over attempts to use biology to ‘cure’ homosexuality.
The controversy revolves around research being conducted on rams by biologists at Oregon State University and the Oregon Health and Science University.
The research was initially funded in order to find new ways to increase the productivity of sheep herds, according to an article in the Sunday Times (London). Since some of the rams preferred mounting other males rather than females, the biologists tried to find ways to change that behavior.
Apparently they did. By varying the rams’ hormone levels, the researchers had “considerable success” changing the males’ behavior, as some of the rams began mating with females.
Sunday Times writers Isabel Oakeshott and Chris Gourlay said the research “raises the prospect that pregnant women could one day be offered a treat

This asshat, Dr. R. Albert Mohler, Jr., a Southern Baptist minister, advocates using drugs/hormones to treat pregnant women if it is determined that the child will be born gay. You would think a minister would know better than to play God.
There is no way to absolutely determine the sexual orientation of an unborn child. There are cases of genetically identical twins that result in one being gay and the other straight.
What would be next? Determining your unborn child might have disciplinary problems and using proactive medical treatment on the fetus? Don’t be mislead by the “Dr.” in front of this jerks name, he has a doctorate degree in philosophy, not medicine.
But now the picture is quite different. Many homosexual activists recognize that the discovery of a biological marker or cause for homosexual orientation could lead to efforts to eliminate the trait, or change the orientation
ya know, mr. pace, i don't think someone who's helping to spearhead an unjustified war should really do around calling what other people do immoral..."I believe homosexual acts between two individuals are immoral and that we should not condone immoral acts," Pace said.I CERTAINLY don't condone your immoral acts of war either, mr. pace, but i'm not stupid enough (or desperate to create a diversion from the war in the media) to liken them to adultery.what an idiot."I do not believe the United States is well served by a policy that says it is okay to be immoral in any way," Pace told the newspaper in a wide-ranging interview. oh, he's such a tool...do i start my list here of immoral american policies that in no way involve who you sleep with? the rest of the article follows:The chairperson of the Joint Chiefs of Staff said he considers homosexuality to be immoral and the military should not condone it by allowing gay personnel to serve openly, the Chicago Tribune reported. Although biologists are still far from answering this question, scattered evidence for a possible gene influencing sexual orientation has recently encouraged scientists to map out a guide to future research. Because many possibilities for such a gene exist, scientists Sergey Gavrilets (homepage) and William Rice (homepage) have recently developed some theoretical guidelines and testable predictions for explaining the evolutionary causes of homosexuality.
"During the 1990s there was a short surge of interest by a small number of labs in finding major genes that might mediate homosexuality," Rice told PhysOrg.com. "However, for a variety of reasons, this effort waned by the turn of the century. I think that - when studying humans - many people shy away from studying sexual phenotypes in general and homosexuality in particular. Much of Sergey's and my motivation in writing our paper was to rekindle an interest in studying the genetic basis of homosexuality. I personally think that if a
Further to the post on the "Church of the poison mind" I think there is an opportunity to talk about homosexuality. Some people consider that there is a homosexual element involved in that "church' whether they have come to that view from experiences with people part of that movement or they have decided as much upon another basis to associate homosexuality with poison I would suggest is more than unreasonable for the most part, although I can accept certain suggestions such as ""homosexuality is objectively disordered" do have some merit if you consider as I do that sexual pleasure is derivative from sexual function which has as its primary aim reproduction for the benefit of our species in evolution. Sexual pleasure is the incentive for sex, it is that which makes procreation enjoyable and beautiful and, "seem like we were meant to do this". One might easily opine that a "God factor' arises from childbirth; something so pleasurable creating something so seemingl
I've been mulling a few things over with the impending "human sexuality and unity in the church" shindig coming up. If you're not done with my ranting, read on.I can't believe there are people really torn up about this forum! Should we go? Will it be too contentious? Will there be homosexuals and those who hate them in the same room? If so, how are we supposed to drink our coffee without spilling it on our silk, I mean selves? Will anyone's mind be changed? Will we walk away thinking a few homosexuals we know personally are okay after all? If we do, what will God think? Will anyone mention hell, because that's not very Episcopalian, even if it's what some of us are thinking? Will some of the really old people, who are still miffed about women and the '28 Book of Common Prayer, die over this?
