I've always thought Portland's had a high number of vacant homes for sale. Homebuyers from out-of-state have mentioned it too. I mention it today because the U.S. Census Bureau recently reported the number of vacant homes for sale in the U.S. set a new record in the first quarter of 2008. The Bureau reports that 2.28 million properties are vacant. That got me to thinking. What percentage of homes for sale in Portland is vacant? 39% to be unscientific. Tracking only active and bumpable properties for sale, 5704 of 14,768 homes listed are vacant.
