I overcame the gods of travel conspiring against me yesterday evening. First there was a car strewn across the M3 on its side facing the wrong way with its passengers standing on the hard shoulder. This created a 20 minute penalty. Then there was a brand new Citroen with what looked like the front wheels sticking out sideways collapsed right on the ramp leading to the bridge over the Hogarth's roundabout. Another 30 minute penalty. So my math for Barbican arrival time changed as I ditched the car in Belgravia cabbed to the venue arriving to that tell tale sign of lateness, an empty lobby. I sped, guided, through the confusing corridors of the Barbican and snuck into the darkened and candle-lit auditorium and Laurie Anderson was already playing and singing, with a familiar style and a small

From: José Can You See? Bush's Trojan Taco by Greg Palast Psst! George Bush has a secret While you Democrats are pounding each other to a pulp in Pennsylvania, the President has snuck back down to New Orleans for a meeting of the NAFTA Three: the Prime Minister of Canada and the President of Mexico. You're not supposed to know that – for two reasons: First, the summit planned for the N.O. two years back was meant to showcase the rebuilt Big Easy, a monument to can-do Bush-o-nomics. Well, it is a monument to Bush's leadership: The city still looks like Dresden 1946, with over half the original residents living in toxic trailers or wandering lost and broke in America. The second reason Bush has kept this major summit a virtual secret is its real agenda - and the real

From: An Election Without Meaning The 2008 presidential race is a media entertainment spectacle with props, gossip, accusations, and public relations. It is impression management from a candidates' perspective. How can we fool the most people into believing that we stand for something? It is billions of dollars of gravy for the media folks and continued profit maximunization for the war machine, Wall Street, and insurance companies no matter who is determined the winner in November. We must face the fact that the US government's primary mission is to protect the wealthy and insure capital expansion worldwide. The US military—spending more than the rest of the militaries of the world combined—is the muscle behind this protect-capital-at-all-costs agenda, and will

The US Department of Homeland Security is not meeting its goals. If yesterday's explosion in Times Square does not convince you, then maybe this latest news story will. But is it really that much of a stretch? Do you feel safer today America? I don't know about the rest of you but I think nothing has changed since 9/11 except everyone is scared, the government has been spying on us and oil spirals ever higher.More of the same stumbling and bumbling through history, answers right in front of our faces yet we are paralyzed by a corrupt government full of impotent bureaucrats more worried about job security than saving the nation. The above things are realated, really they are. I know, I was surprised too when all I was trying to do is pay my phone bill.Having just moved offices, I am a bit behind on my own personal admin. I received a call from Verizon last Friday and realized it was time to pay the bill. I usually handle this thru my online account with the bank or directly on the Verizon web site.Realizing that the call was serious, rather than pay thru the bank, which can add a few days to the posting time, I went to log in on their website. Well, for whatever reasons, my login no longer worked and trying to reset didn't work either because the site wanted account numbers that would be on a physical copy of the bill. OK, I can relate to that EXCEPT I get my bills electronically and cannot retreive the infor
The Philippines government says it has reached an agreement with the country's main Islamic separatist group on boundaries for a Muslim homeland.Government negotiator Rodolfo Garcia said "demarcation" was agreed after two days of talks in Malaysia with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).Officials say the deal in Kuala Lumpur could pave the way for a final peace deal between the two sides next year.MILF has been fighting for decades over land in the southern Mindanao region. Negotiators are hopeful that a permanent peace agreement can be sealed by the middle of next year.
I am beginning to wonder if I will ever get to see my homeland again with all the problems that come my way. My life is problematic, and just when things are looking up for me, more problems would surface. My people back home don't seem to realize how hard it is for me to not see my homeland, and so, if I want to go visit my homeland I will have to make an effort all on my own. Nobody else really care but me, so I have a plan that once our children are old enough for me to leave home, I will save up for a visit home. I realize that I hold the key to my happiness, and if I want things to happen, I have to do it all on my own. No one can help me, nor do it for me, but me. So, with that realization, I hope that some of my dreams will do come true someday. And I mean the things my heart desires. The saying that says, dreams are wishes our hearts make, but I guess it is only true some of the time. Okay, until here for now. I am getting a headache...oh, it hurts.

The FBI, working in conjunction with the Department of Homeland Security, raided Valve headquarters early this morning, detaining several developers who work directly with the popular Counterstrike mod. Authorities also confiscated computers used to program the game. The developers are currently being held on charges of domestic terrorism at an undisclosed U.S. prison that may or may not be inside the United States.
Intelligence agencies working with law enforcement have discovered a vast and troubling network of gamers working together within our country training themselves in strategies and tactics that could potentially be used by domestic terror cells, Secretary of Homeland Security Michael Chertoff told reporters at a press conference held in the White House shortly after the raid. We have detained the instigators of this domestic terrorist training program, and further arrests will be forthcoming as we track down individuals using this "Steam" network.

The US Department of Homeland Security is developing Ground Truth, a video game. So if you thought America’s Army or Full Spectrum Warrior was the end of government-created games, think again! The United States Department of Homeland Security was created after the 9/11 terrorist attacks to help protect the US homeland.
Ground Truth (probably a temporary name) has been in development for the past year with an estimated $600,000 dollars worth of funding pumped into the project so far (not much at all in mainstream video game terms). The game has you playing as a first responder to a natural disaster or terrorist attack. Success in the game would be dependent not only on the quickness of your response, but also how you go about responding. Make poor choices and you can expect larger casualties and a lower score.
Computer scientist Donna Djordjevich who is a designer on the game said that she is designing Ground Truth to be on par with anything on a next-generation console. “I

By Ryan SingelThe Department of Homeland Security is funding the creation an LED flashlight that uses powerful flashes of light to temporarily blind, disorient and incapacitate people. Homeland Security's Science and Technology arm hopes government agents can use the "light saber" to arrest people on planes and at the borders without using traditional weapons. The LED Incapacitator uses a range-finder to measure the distance to a target's eyes and then unleashes continually changing, multi-color light pulses that both blind and disorient the person. Intelligent Optical Systems, a small company in Torrance, CA, is developing the weapon with money from Homeland Security's Science and Technology division, which thinks its possible to have the weapon deployed to cops, National Guard troops and border agents by 2010.The company's president Bob Lieberman says the tool would be perfect for confronting border jumpers."You don't want to hurt or kill them, just take them into custody," Liebe
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) today proposed an amendment to the homeland security bill that would fund a seven hundred mile fence at the southern border.
an amendment devoting $3 billion to increase border security efforts as part of a $38 billion homeland security funding bill.
The amendment by Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) provides funding to build a 700-mile long fence along the U.S.-Mexico border, as called for in the Secure Fence Act. It also requires the federal government to establish and to demonstrate operational control over 100 percent of the land and maritime borders between the U.S. and Mexico.
What is shocking to me here is that the senate approved it by a vote of 89-1. It’s not the margin of victory in this vote I am referring to,although it is impressive, it is the fact that they approved it at all. Political correctness almost led to the non-twarting of the Fort Dix six. You can read how here. The store clerk who reported the six after seeing their terrorist training video they asked him to copy was a young man. He has obviously been raised in the politically correct mindset as he at first wasn’t sure he should report it for fear of being called a racist. If somwhow these men are freed, they will now be able to sue this store clerk hero. This amendment would have stopped that.
So why would the Democrat leaders kill t

June 20th was a particularly long day for Scott Charbo, the Chief Information Officer for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He was the lead witness in a hearing held by a subcommittee of the U.S. House Committee on Homeland Security. The hearing was convened as part of the Committee's ongoing investigation into the cybersecurity vulnerabilities of the United States.
In his opening statement, the subcommittee's chairman, Rep. James R. Langevin (D-R.I.), emphasized that, from the series of hearings on cybersecurity, it has become clear that "infiltration of federal government networks and the possible theft or exploitation" of government information is "one of the most critical issues" confronting the U.S.

The irritation of federal lawmakers was heightened by the release of a report by the Government Accountability Office that concluded that, despite some progress, there were still significant flaws in key DHS security programs.

My friend came across this story from The Raw Story It tells about a woman, Yaderlin Hiraldo, who entered the United States illegally and married a soldier who was subsequently sent to Iraq where he is now missing. When the judge found out her husband, Alex Jimenez, was missing, he revoked her green card.
I'm on Mrs. Hiraldo's side.
Look at it this way: The guy does the honorable thing and marries the woman, right? If you marry an American, you get to stay automatically and apply for residency. So, Mr. Jimenez volunteers for Iraq and goes missing (I pray he comes back) which leaves Ms. Hiraldo vulnerable to deportation.
If Mr. Jimenez hadn't joined the Army and gone to Iraq and had been a street bumb instead, Mrs. Hiraldo would be staying. In other words, the only reason she's being deported is because her husband decided to serve his country.
It seems here that no two good deeds (getting married and joining the Army) go unpunished.

no, really...and from the dude who wrote ringwold...i couldn't make this one up if i tried:Looking to prevent the next terrorist attack, the Homeland Security Department is tapping into the wild imaginations of a group of self-described "deviant" thinkers: science-fiction writers."We spend our entire careers living in the future," says author Arlan Andrews, one of a handful of writers the government brought to Washington this month to attend a Homeland Security conference on science and technology. Those responsible for keeping the nation safe from devastating attacks realize that in addition to border agents, police and airport screeners, they "need people to think of crazy ideas," Andrews says. The writers make up a group called Sigma, which Andrews put together 15 years ago to advise government officials. The last time the group gathered was in the late 1990s, when members met with government scientists to discuss what a post-nuclear age might look like, says group member Greg Bear.

Whether it is insurance of our health, possessions, or income, we willingly pay our premiums in order to rest easily in knowing that we are protected from loss. Yet it is truly ironic that when we are farthest from home and on foreign lands, our health insurance is often at its most useless. For peace of mind when traveling or living internationally the smart traveler is sure to purchase travel health insurance. Many of us spend thousands of dollars each year in purchasing comprehensive and complete health insurance coverage. Yet many people are surprised to learn that what is comprehensive coverage within our own borders is often useless when we travel abroad. And it is not just those who purchase extensive private health insurance coverage who are surprised, student health insurance and U.S. Medicare both fail to cover the insured when they are beyond the border. If you are plann

When we entered the Magic Kingdom on the first day of our trip, I was alarmed to see that they were using biometrics with finger scanning along with the ticket cards. Since I had gotten 10-day no expiration passes for use on another trip, this was going to foil my plan. I had three 10-day adult (age 10+) passes and one 8-day child (age 3-9) pass. Luckily for us, Dova was three weeks from turning 3 on this trip so she was free. My plan was to come back on the next trip for 5 days, after Adam was 10, where he could use Grandma's pass and Dova would use Adam's pass. Suddenly, my plan was foiled and we had to come back before Adam turned 10 to be able to use up his pass. Then we started our own biometric tests. First Grandma and I switched cards and we were admitted fine. Grandma's finger obviously has a different fingerprint was definitely wider than mine, if they were only going by dimensions. Later, Doug I and swapped cards and we flew through again. So this biometric scan
This has to be the most despicable case of political correctness I have ever heard of. Michael Chertoff is supposed to be the chief of anti terrorism for America and here he is singing the praises of radical Islam. Its not bad enough he is throwing his own Border Patrol agents to the wolves but now he’s running interference for Islam.
