The tragedy at Virginia Tech happened a year ago today. At the time I had just woken up for my first night in Alabama, where I was staying with students who attending the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
It was a pretty casual day and I turned on TV to catch up with the news in the world. Second only to 9/11 it was the most horrifying news I had seen in my lifetime. For the last several years I have grown to be someone very passionate and enthusiastic about college life. Every college student in the world took it just a little bit harder, knowing it could have just as well been their college.
Well... knowing that I was going to be visiting VA in the next month, several people asked if I was going to be visiting Virginia Tech. I wasn't sure if I even wanted to, if i belonged ther

Whitaker has a some real-game experience (119 PaYd, 1 PaTD), but this job will be won on the practice field. It looks like Ike has the edge after the final spring scrimmage, but
Denny Hamlin had more than NASCAR Nextel Cup points on his mind in the Subway Fresh Fit 500 on Saturday night.Hamlin, from Chesterfield, Va., wanted to win the race to pay tribute to the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre.Hamlin led for 70 laps but finished third after being penalized for speeding on pit road. That set him back to 30th place. Hamlin charged back toward the front but was not able to catch race winner Jeff Gordon or runner-up Tony Stewart.

Before now, for my generation there were two instances that stood alone in our minds...where we could instantly recall what we were doing when we heard the news; the day after Columbine, and the morning of September 11th. Now there's a third.Monday, April 16th, 2007.Monday, April sixteenth...two thousand seven. That date has been emblazoned upon my brain along with "33 dead, 15 injured" ever since I got home from work on Tuesday and turned on the news. I've not been able to get my head around all of it, and my thoughts and prayers go out to anyone and everyone affected by this tragedy. Still, it really wasn't getting to me. Wasn't. Past tense. Today, I saw pictures of those killed on Tuesday, as part of a tribute video clip. I read a little about each victim; mostly just snippets about thei
As more and more names are released the whole world including the sports world and blogosphere mourn with Virginia Tech students, faculty, and family of those lost in the tragedy- including The Sports Flow.Granted, it may be a little late but we want you to know that we mourn for you along with the rest of the world and you are all in our prayers.
Tragedy struck today in my sister state of Virginia: A gunman killed many and injured others at Virginia Tech. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families that were touched by this horrendous incident. Here in the real world ever since Genesis 3 we have grown accustomed to such things. And, crimes such as these tell us two things about life in the real world.Jesus told us to, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). Yet, we have succeeded in getting God out of the schools. We have to ask ourselves how many opportunities have we had to spread that good news and not taken the chance. How many people could have heard the gospel and we just didn’t take the time. People, we live in a cruel world. We live in a world where the value of a human life isn’t what it used to be. We live in a world of hurting people who could be relieved of some of the hurt by one word: Jesus. Those people who
Now i'm not usually one to brag, but my Hokies have beaten Davey's Cane's 3 times this season. Twice in basketball and once in football. Led by Zabian "Ultra Super Secret Ninja" Dowdell's 20 points, Virginia Tech improved to 20-8 after they beat Miami, 73-57 Saturday night. This is the Hokies first 20 win season in 11 years(23-6 back in 1996) and it has clinched them a first round bye in the ACC Tournament. Our terrific back court tandem, Dowdell and Jamon Gordon had Miami's Denis Clemente, who led the Cane's with 20 points of his own, admiring their play saying "I'm trying to learn from these people". It's ok Denis, I'm sure with lots of practice and praying, one day you'll be good enough to at least hold Dowdell's jock strap. The Cane's bench did out score the Hokies bench, 18-2, but all VTech's starters were in double figures. Dowdell led the team with 20 points and 8 rebounds, he also chipped in with 4 assists and 3 steals. Gordon had 13 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and
