First it was Hitachi pulling the plug on its own RPTVs under a month ago and now we are hearing that Seiko Epson are announcing they are discontinuing the production and sales of its rear-projection televisions.
This I am sure is all very obvious as when you walk into any TV store all you see are flat panel TVs, but I guess it was just a matter of time.

La firma japonesa Hitachi ha anunciado su Deskstar P7K500, diciendo que es el disco duro de escritorio mas eficiente del mundo.El P7K500, viene con capacidades entre 250 y 500GB, funciona a 7200RPM, cuenta con una tasa media de trasnferencia mayor a 1GB/s y cuando esta inactivo consume entre 4 y 5 watts.Hitachi dice que su dispositivo es 60% mas eficiente que otros discos duros de su clase y cuando está activo consume entre 6 y 8 watts, cumpliendo con la especificación ENERGY STAR 4.0.Su precio no ha sido anunciado y la firma comentó que su nuevo dispositivo estará disponible para fin de año.Debido a que el fabricante no ha anunciado el precio, no es posible determinar si ahorrará dinero o no a sus usuarios, pero Hitachi espera vender su nuevo disco a fabricantes de PCs que deseen lanzar productos de bajo consumo.

Hitachi goes very green by implementing features to greatly reduce hard disk drive power consumption in the latest Deskstar lineIt's rare to find hard disk drive manufacturers focusing on anything other than increasing the speed and capacity of its products because those are the two features consumers look for in hard disk drive products. Hitachi has taken another approach to improving its hard drives by developing drives with reduced power consumption; specifically up to a 40 percent decrease in consumption.Hitachi introduced the Deskstar P7K500 line of desktop hard disk drives today which contain a number of technologies to reduce power consumption. The first technology Hitachi has implemented in the P7K500 line is the HiVERT technology for a more efficient conversion of voltage. Many of you know that the Hitachi Wooo UT series TV is only 35mm thin, although Samsung and Sharp have thinner Hitachi can actually say that theirs is the first to go into production. There are three sizes of TV in the Wooo UT series, a 42-inch, 37-inch and a lower spec 32-inch.
I have noticed one problem with this range of television’s, they only have one HDMI input not good at all if you are into your gaming as well as having a Blu-Ray or HD-DVD, but Hitachi do have an answer for this and that is by using an external Wooo Station box, this has the tuner and 3 x HDMI inputs built-in. The 42 and 37-inch TV’s are 1080p, whereas the 32-inch model only has a resolution of 1,366 x 768, Engadget say that Hitachi V-32 will go into production by April, the V-37 will be with us by February, while the V-32 will be due for release in December.

Hitachi has claimed a breakthrough in Hard disk drive technology that would result in HDD’s for storage space upto whooping 4 Terabytes for desktops and 1 Terabytes for laptops. The breakthrough is based on new invention in nanotechnology that would shrink the size of the read/write heads to only 30-50nm in size.
The new heads are based on magnetoresistive techonology known as CPP-GMR (current perpendicular-to-the-plane giant magnetoresistive). The whole idea lies behind in increasing the hard disk recording densities by using smaller and smaller heads which will in turn provide huge increase in densities upto 500 gigabytes per square inch which is approximately four times the present generation of hard drives.

Hitachi fue el primer fabricante de discos duros que aplicó la tecnología perpendicular y por ende, el primero en romper la barrera del disco duro de 1TB. Por este motivo, cuando este fabricante habla de "avances" en la tecnología de discos duros, merece la pena abrir bien los oídos y atender. ¿Cuál es el reclamo? Pues ni más ni menos que un disco duro de 3,5 pulgadas y 4TB para sobremesa, y 1TB para portátil (2,5 pulgadas) que veremos en los próximos 4 años. Las nuevas cabezas de grabación son la mitad de pequeñas que las existentes y 2.000 veces más pequeñas que el cabello humano.
