"Damien Hirst is the most powerful figure in the world of contemporary art, according to magazine ArtReview. Hirst, who topped the list in 2005, retakes the top spot after a recent sale of his work which made £111m. ... Kathy Halbreich, an associate director of New York's Museum of Modern Art, becomes the first woman to make the top 10 in her own right."...5 Vote(s)
Breve recensione: perfezione formale, risate convinte, in certi punti a scena ap

Damien Hirst - whose probably made more money from his art than any other living artist - is about to take the gamble of his artistic career. He's bi-passed his usual galleries and sent all his latest work straight to Sotheby's.3 Vote(s)
The final frontier protecting contemporary art galleries from the relentless encroachment of the auction houses has been emphatically breached with the announcement that Damien Hirst is creating an exhibition of new works for display and sale at the London headquarters of Sotheby's.

LACMA said its armed guards were not new. "Armed guards, stationed in galleries and throughout the campus, have always been a part of LACMA's security plan," spokeswoman Allison Agsten said this week.
Agsten said the guards were supplied by Inter-Con Security Systems Inc., a Pasadena-based global contractor whose website lists such present and former clients as NASA, the State Departmen
If you dig Post-Millennial Catchwords, Provocative Art, and Jeans, then you're gonna love this one—a wearable art pop up shop featuring Damien Hirst denim for Levi's, inspired by Andy Warhol, and modeled by Vincent Gallo. The "Warhol Factory X Levi's X Damien Hirst" pop-up shop will pop up today at Fred Segal Man in Santa Monica. Two hitherto unseen Hirst works (more butterfly corpses, perhaps?) will be unveiled at the event, and we'll celebrate the release of an accompanying 224-page coffee table book, featuring essays and interviews by Steffie Nelson, with Vincent Gallo modeling the goods.Damien Hirst collaborated with Levi's after coming across the original Warhol-inspired collaboration while shopping at Barney's...which totally backs up my theory that shopping is, indeed, one of the h
Art News Flash - Damien Hirst Arrested !!!
‘News Flash: Damien Hirst Arrested for Crimes Against the Art Market’ is a headline that I would love to see appear in every news source world wide. Although I am all for artists making money from their art and promoting art as a profitable investment I think that the actions of Damien Hirst have been detrimental to the short term perception and long term stability of the art market. What crimes has Damien Hirst committed against the art market I hear you ask, well, here are five:
1.Exploitation of art market for monetary gain - If Damien Hirst is as committed to art as one is led to believe then why did he sell “For The Love of God” for 50 million pounds when it only cost 14 million pounds to create. The sale of the skull for 50 million pounds makes it the most expensive “artwork” purchased by a living artist but I cannot see how Hirst can justify selling the artwork for this price when the concept is weak
Where To Find Emerging Artists: Cashing In On The Next Hirst
The most savvy art investors look for the next big thing amongst the plethora of emerging artists. The best way to make a killing investing in art is to pick the next big thing before everyone else does. The problem with this method is that you need an extremely good knowledge of the art market in order to be able to predict who will be popular in the future without the figures and history of an established artist.
Damien Hirst started out as a member of the Young British Artists group.
One way to give yourself a better chance at picking a winner is to focus on some of the well established collectives, galleries and initiatives which nurture and promote the best emerging artists. To give you a head start I have included links below to some of the best online galleries that sell art by emerging artists that won’t break the bank.
Who knows, the next Hirst might be one click away.

Damien Hirst, whose London show closed this month without a sale of his diamond skull, has found buyers for £130 million ($265 million) of art at the White Cube galleries, said exhibitions director Tim Marlow.
