Well folks…I guess that it is not easy to be a Hindu not only here in Malaysia (as highlighted by HINDRAF) but also in other parts of the world. Take a look at the recent fuss raised by the Hindu community in the United Kingdom for an example. I don't think anyone else outside their Hindu community can help them on that. The Hindus have to help themselves first. Why can't they just abolish that caste system of theirs and treat everyone like equals?Recently added:Whoa… It seems that this post have offended quite a number of people especially "gangeticus'.Believe me, the post was not meant to offend anybody. I'm just highlighting a global problem that is plaguing the Hindu community at the moment. In the past, I have discussed this matter with many of my Hindu friends and they all agreed that their caste system is creating a lot of problems in their own community here in Malaysia.Perhaps HINDRAF should tackle this internal issue first before pursuing anything else.Think abou
This is almost too funny to be true, but it appears that a judge in India has issued a summons to the Hindu gods Ram and Hanuman in order to end a decades long lawsuit involving land surrounding a temple dedicated to them.
Judge Singh sent out two notices to the deities, but they were returned as the addresses were found to be “incomplete”.
Local say the temple belongs to the gods. This prompted him to put out adverts in local newspapers summoning the gods.
“You failed to appear in court despite notices sent by a peon and later through registered post. You are herby directed to appear before the court personally”, Judge Singh’s notice said.
Can you imagine what would happen here in America if a judge ordered God/Jesus to appear in court to settle a dispute over something either one is alleged to have said or done? I bet people would be falling down in the streets at the audacity.

November 29, 2007 Dr. David Frawley of the American Institute of Vedic Studies writes, in an interesting essay, that what has been characterized as the “Hindu right” in India is substantially different from “right wing” groups in other countries and cultures. The essay is entitled, The Myth of the Hindu Right, and I quote from it below:The idea of the ‘Hindu right’ is largely a ploy to discredit the Hindu movement as backward and prevent people from really examining it. The truth is that the Hindu movement is a revival of a native spiritual tradition that has nothing to do with the political right-wing of any western country. Its ideas are spiritually evolutionary, not politically regressive. It’s a provocative and thought-provoking article, and it does undercut the fact that Western-inspired leftists generally tend to side with whoever they perceive as the “victims” or as the “minorities” without looking into the truth-value of the philosophies or worldviews of th
November 30, 2007 For another side to the issues covered in David Frawley’s article that I linked to in the previous post, read Whatever Happened to the Hindu Left? by Ruth Vanita at the Infinity Foundation website. Ruth Vanita is an Indian academic, activist and author who specializes in lesbian and gay studies, gender studies, and British and South Asian literary history. One of the focuses of her academic work is deconstructing the somewhat Gandhian stereotype that India has gone back and forth between arranged heterosexual marriages and ascetic celibacy. I quote from her article below:Here, the position of Muslim, Christian and Sikh leftists is somewhat different. Because these happen to be minorities in India, the left has to support their rights, hence there is somewhat less embarrassment attached to acknowledging these identities as a modern Indian leftist. Secondly, they do not have to carry the burden of being called backward polytheistic idol-worshipers. Secular feminist or

The Curse of Kehama ( 1810)He was the almighty rajah of Earth, and allpowerful in Swerga or Heaven. After a long tyranny, he went to Pandalon (Hell) to claim domination there also. He demanded why the throne of Yamen was supported by only three persons, and was told that he himself must be the fourth. When Kehama drank the amreeta, or draught of immortality, which he thought would bring eternal happiness, he drank immortal death, and was forced to bend his proud neck beneath the throne of Yamen, to become the fourth supporter. LADURLAD was the person subjected to the "curse of Kehama."
Indonesian religious conceptions. The question must be asked, however, to what extent such religious ideas were comprehensible to those who first heard them. Indonesians, who had been accustomed to constructing terraced mountainlike temples--symbolizing holy mountains--for the burial and worship of the dead, would not have been perplexed by the Brahmans' doctrine that Shiva also dwelt on a holy mountain. Natural stones, already placed on mountain terraces for the ritual of megalithic worship, would have been easily identified with Shiva's natural stone lingam, the most prestigious of all lingams. Indonesians, who were already concerned with the passage rites and welfare of the dead, and who considered the elaborate rituals of
Hindu religious conceptions. The cultural effects of these commercial exchanges, usually described as "Hinduization," have been discussed for many years. It is now held that Hinduism was brought to Indonesia not by traders, as was formerly thought, but by Brahmans who taught the Shaivite message of personal immortality. Sanskrit inscriptions, attributed to the 5th and 6th centuries, have been found in eastern Kalimantan, a considerable distance from the international trade route, and also in western Java. They reveal that Indian literati, or their Indonesian disciples, were honoured in some royal courts. The rulers were prominent rakas, heads of groups of villages in areas where irrigation and other needs had brought i
It may one day be shown by students of prehistory that Indonesians were sailing to other parts of Asia long ago. Records of foreign trade, however, begin only in the early centuries AD. A study of the Roman historian Pliny the Elder's Natural History suggests that, in the 1st century AD, Indonesian outriggers were engaged in trade with the east coast of Africa. Indonesian settlements may have existed at that time in Madagascar, an island with distinct Indonesian cultural traits. The geographer Ptolemy, in the following century, incorporated information from Indian merchants in his Guide to Geography concerning "Iabadiou," presumably referring to Java, and "Malaiou," which, with its variants, may refer to Malayu in sout

The vast majority of Muslims in India are Sunnis who have been influenced over the generations by Hindu religion and culture. In one area of India, two leading Muslim missionaries were Khunmir Hussaini (1520) and Syed Hussaini (1568). It is believed that both came with zealous preaching and the power to heal the sick, thus many Hindus readily converted to Islam. Devotion to these Muslim saints continues to this day.
Yet many Muslims live in congested areas where the city infrastructure is of poor quality. But God is at work. Many genuine believers in India have been praying for the Muslim community. Some are fearful of Muslims as well, caught up in the historical Indian prejudices between the varying religious communities. Some areas have a reputation for communal tensions between the Hindu communities and the more volatile Muslim population.

Indian Hindu Wedding Traditions
The Indian culture celebrates marriage as a sacrament (Sanskara), a rite enabling two individuals to start their journey in life together. In a Hindu wedding, the multiplicity of creation becomes possible when spirit (Purush) unites with matter (Prakritti). The Hindu wedding lays emphasis on three essential values: happiness, harmony, and growth.

I am glad that I have been able to make it back to Mumbai in time for the Ganesh Utsava this year which falls on 15th September. It's that time of the year when beautifully decorated Mandals (temporary temples typically made using bamboo, cloth, wood, plastic etc etc) spring up on every nook & corner of Mumbai. Although they are currently occupied by men who smoke, drink & gamble away the night in there right now! For those who do not know, on 15th, Lord Ganesha's statues will be installed inside them and for 9,7,5 or 3 days and then there will be regular prayers & ceremonies inside the Mandal. Even the statues are different for different mandals, they may chose to install any of the eight incarnations of Lord Ganesha. The worship of Lord Ganesha is necessary for any practising Hindu before they begin prayers, important undertakings, and religious ceremonies. Most scriptures describe Lord Ganesha as vignakarta (Obstacle-creator) & vignaharta (Obstacle-destroyer) at the same time.
The Hindu religion shows the way to lead the life successfully. Needless to say, for anybody’s success wealth is important. To visit temples in Bali, there are few rules you need to know. One very common rule is that you need to wear sarong when entering the temple. There are other rules to bear in mind so you can easily enter the temple without any doubt or fear offending the locals. This is also to make sure you will not spoil your holiday in Bali. Here are the list of rules for entering temples in Bali, (some may sound funny to you).Wear sarong. Some temples, especially those that have lots of visitors, provide sarongs at the entrance. You can put it on before entering the temple. Why sarong? Sarong is meant to cover the "unholy" part of our body, especially under the waist part. (Note: most of the temples in Bali do not provide sarongs, so it could be handy to have it if temple is in your tour itinerary.)Dress properly or decently. This is self explanatory, so, I am not going to dig on that.Ladies in period are not allowed to enter the temple.People whose relatives recently passed away and still conduct
There are those who feel it defiles the whole concept of religion when the clergy of various sects offer opening prayers in the U.S. Senate. Of course there are others who argue that religion is needed in that place more than anywhere else. But, what is not needed is a bunch of Hindu swami crap. And fortunately , though they failed to stop the outrage this time, American's very own Taliban was there to confront Satan's representative head on.Last week the Senate invited Rajan Zedis a Hindu chaplain from Reno, to deliver the opening prayer in the U.S. Senate . I'm not surprised this missionary of darkness heralds from the state which kept the tradition of American Sin kicking through the 1950's.Fortunately the good people at American Family Action got wind of the coming debauchery and filled us all in.America was urged to send e-mails to their senators asking that the invitation be nixed.David Barton, one of AFA's holy men, warned it was anticipated the prayer would
Hinduism is the religion of billions of people, including a vast quantity that reside in America. Every day prayers to “Our father in Heaven”, and “Our Lord Jesus Christ” are spouted off at government functions from all corners of the country. (Except San Francisco, where prayers are made to whichever drag queens are sober enough to represent their districts at 8am.)
In a rare occasion Hindu chaplain Rajan Zed offered a traditional Hindu prayer for the Senate today, and was immediately heckled and screamed at by a group of “Christian activists.” (Whatever the hell that means.)
If this doesn’t make you embarrassed to be a Christian then you obviously haven’t removed your head from the sand. Loving, peaceful, true in spirit my ass. How about nasty, crass, self righteous and bigoted. I don’t label myself with any religion, but in viewing this I’m sad and embarrassed for myself and my country.
Wait wait
Here's how to throw away an enormous heap of money on absolutely nothing:
A devotee on Tuesday offered seven gifts, totalling Rs 1.5 crore, to the presiding deity at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) temple, the richest Hindu shrine in the world.
Consulting the always unreliable Wikipedia, we find that an Indian crore is a numbering unit equal to ten million.
Balbir Singh Uppal, a Chandigarh-based industrialist and the CMD of Lakshmi Energy and Foods, donated the items to the deputy executive officer of the temple, G Balaramaiah. Uppal, who had gone for a darshan, handed over the gifts in the morning, apparently in fulfillment of a vow he had made earlier to Lord Venkateswaram, the presiding deity.
Presiding? I would like to know, exactly how is this deity "presiding" in the temple?
The seven-piece ensemble comprised a sankanidhi, padmanidhi and eka harathi, two nakshatra harathis and a sankham — each made of gold — and a dhoopa harathi.
This would have been so

It is useful to examine Hindu attitudes to women to understand Hindu culture and society. Mainstream scripture in India stipulates similar societal status to household animals and women. Additionally, through the centuries, as this land was colonized and subjugated by all and sundry, the subtended aspirations of the Hindu male translated to the normalization of domestic abuse. Where in other cultures sex signified the consummation of a relationship, in India a bashing came to represent the same. Common across socio-economic classes it is the basis for the particularly vicious nature of the Indian female whose abuse induced low self-esteem translates to obscure menace unique to this land, culture and society. The following report by Geeta Pandey gives some illustrative details:Domestic violence is particularly acute in South Asia where traditionally women have been treated as the inferior sex. Talk of domestic violence usually conjures up images of poor, illiterate women, unaware of t

I came from a purely Hindu family where we were always taught to regard ourselves (i.e. women) as beings who were eventually to be married off and have children and serve the husband-- whether he was kind or not. Other than this I found that there were a lot of things which really oppressed women, such as:
*If a woman was widowed, she would always have to wear a white sari (costume), eat vegetarian meals, cut her hair short, and never re-marry.*The bride always had to pay the dowry (bridal money) to the husband's family.*And the husband could ask for anything, irrespective of whether the bride would have difficulty giving it.Not only that, if after marriage she was not able to pay the full dowry she would be both emotionally and physically tortured, and could end up being a victim of "kitchen death" where the husband, or both the mother-in-law and t
