A 17 year old man was killed and four others seriously injured while traveling on Highway 2 between Gold Bar and Index in Washington State on Friday afternoon.  The collision occurred when an SUV carrying three 17 year olds crossed the center line and collided head on with a vehicle traveling in the oncoming lane.  One of the 17 year olds in the SUV died in the collision. Instead they passed an ordinance that required the tributes to be behind a fence, which every one of the tributes I see every day are. Now that is not good enough. It is evidently a public safety issue according to the Massachusetts Highway Department. Falling signs could cause an accident. Two Canadian soldiers and their interpretor were killed in the early hours of the morning today. While we slept soundly here in Canada, Corp. Nicolas Raymond Beauchamp of the 5th Field Ambulance in Valcartier and Pte. Michel Levesque of the Royal 22nd were killed when their light armoured vehicle hit an IED. After years of waiting the missing 22 km of highway linking Austrian capital Vienna with Slovakian border and Slovakian capital Bratislava - the A6 highway - will be officially opened this month. The Slovak media brought information that the first one to drive on the highway will be David Coulthard in his Red Bull Formula 1 car. The grand opening show should be held on November 18, 2007, a day ahead of the officila opening of the new highway. As a part of the program Coulthard is expected to drive his Red Bull at speeds around 320km/h. That would probably be the highest speed ever recorded on Austrian highways. Even Milan Baros and his Ferrari Spider would not be able to match that. Earlier this year, in June, David Coulthard opened the highway tunnel in Bratislava. The Czech football international Milan Baros (currently playing for Lyon in France) was caught by French police speeding. Not just some speeding. It looks like he broke all time French speeding violation record with 271 km/h in his black Ferrari F430 Spider. French police confiscated both, his drivers licence and his Ferrari. Not surprising after exceeding the speed limit by 141 km/h… The previous “record” was 248 km/h set by a motorbike… Did not take long, and guess who came out to explain his stupidity. Day 3 of my Eastern Visayas trip. My plan was to pass by Calbayog to check out one of its many waterfalls then try to get to Allen, Northern Samar to stay for the night. But that did not materialize due to a horrific experience on the PGMA Strong Republic Nautical Highway. I wanted to stress the full name to illustrate the wrong impression it gives. Which got me thinking about my favourite tours of all time… Now, most of my list would be dominated by Dylan (’66, ‘75, ‘80, Fall ‘02), but if those were my top 4, Bruce would fit in the top 5 with his Ghost of Tom Joad Tour, which spanned from ‘95 to ‘97. These shows were mostly all solo Bruce, and the tour produced some of the finest audience recordings I have ever heard, and this one must be at the top of the list.

Normally a trip to the airport can be filled with many emotions. Joy of going on a well deserved holiday or sadness due to the death of a loved one that has recently passed.
