There have been a lot of hits to our site in the past 48 hours from people searching for the Highland School Lofts. Chris is a long-time friend of Rockhoppers, before he set up an internet chair in the woods near his house, he used our blazing fast internet. He came in at least once a week. When I was in the Scottish Highlands last week I realised the importance of bridges to this area. Ferries are affected by weather, breakdowns, restricted timetables and can be full in busy periods. A bridge offers a much simpler means of making a short crossing over a body of water. A bridge was finally built from the mainland to the island of Skye in 1995. The tolls for the bridge were high, around £9 for a return trip, there was a lot of protest and civil disobedience until the tolls were finally abolished in 2004. The islanders compared the tolls they paid to the tolls over the much longer Forth and Tay road bridges which only charged 80p return. I’d never seen the Kylesku Bridge before but I thought that it was very elegant and on reading up on my return I noticed that it has been called one of the most beautiful bridges in the world and won several awards after it opened in 1984. Last week we stayed at a holiday cottage on the Leckmelm estate just outside Ullapool, in the Scottish Higlands.  One evening as I was descending the stairs in the cottage I spotted a deer grazing just outside the cottage, through the glass at the top of the front door. We saw many deer during our week in the Highlands. unfortunately several of them dead by the road side.  It is one of the hazards of driving in the Highlands.  We did have deer cross the road in front of us but it was a single track road so we’d time to slow down.  We watched a couple of deer grazing in a field below one of the walks from the cottage. As mentioned in the Title, I visited a chilling place in Malaysia called Cameron Highland. When we went in for a Jungle walk, it made me feel like I am being very close to the nature.
