Media Ignore Enron Connection to Higher Oil and Gas Prices
If a Senate study concluded that legislation signed by President George W. Bush and supported by Halliburton was partially responsible for today's high oil and gas prices, do you think you would have heard about it? Well, such a report was released by the Senate. However, the president that signed the law in question was William Jefferson Clinton, and the company that strongly lobbied for its passage was Enron. Yet, mysteriously, this study was almost completely ignored. On June 26, Senators Norm Coleman (R-Minnesota) and Carl Levin (D-Michigan) released a comprehensive report [1] detailing how speculation on various commodities exchanges around the world is impacting energy prices. Six weeks later, virtually no media coverage has been given to this bipartisan, 60-page study that

Put another way, it's good to be long natural gas.Obviously I'm excited about the move in APC today, along with the continued upside in the Natural Gas Fund (UNG), which is an exchange traded fund that tracks the commodity. But no matter how excited I get or how confident I am that a trade will work, it's incredibly important to remember to never over-leverage a single sector. Natural gas is great and I think the sector will continue higher, but you can't take excessive risks. Stay diversified!

The sector, tipped as one of the economy's key growth drivers this year, grew by just 14.6 per cent in the first two months, down from more than 20 per cent for most of last year. Economists were surprised by what they said amounted to a contraction in the industry, but they remained confident that growth was still healthy and in line with their forecasts for the year, which ranged from 10 per cent to 25 per cent. Most suggested that profits in the construction sector could have been hit by higher raw material and labour costs. Construction costs have risen 40 per cent

A breakout above the channel would indicate an acceleration in trend and could quickly send RIMM up to its 52 week high. Over the last five days, RIMM has coiled around the $120 level.
