Modern lenders are experts at bombarding us with commercials on TV, in newspapers and in the post, offering us all kinds of opportunities to borrow money. Most of the time we totally ignore this advertising and junk mail.
However, for many people, at some point in their lives they need a little help with their finances. [...]

My latest high rise escapade came courtesy of an offer from Chris at the M Club on High Street. The old Apollo cinema building has a few old staircases and fire exits above the old screening rooms that allow you onto the roof. I only grabbed photos looking up/down the street itself, over the roof tops towards the old St John's church (now Funsters), to the railway station area and left over towards Dunelm Mill (formerly B and Q). That image is first up, as it could be involved in yet another redevelopment scheme. The foreground of photo no.2 shows the cleared site that was once occupied by the Skoda dealership. This plot plus land in and around the High Street area offers developers the opportunity to plan larger and more elaborate projects. Moreover, a snippet in this week's freebie Crewe Guardian paper revealed that both the Dunelm Mill and MFI units have been acquired by Hawstone Properties plc (this Crewe acquisition, plus news about the land off University Way near Crewe Green,
Well done to those in the know, the old shoe shop on High Street. It even looks a little sad in colour! Putting it on the map, if you were to nip around the corner on the second photo the shop is on the left as you go past the old Crewe Chronicle offices, with the new M Club (old Apollo cinema) opposite...

It feels like it has been a really long time since we told you about the new Robbers On High Street album, Grand Animals. And now, finally, the disc is in stores and ready for you to consume. The sophomore release from the band is very solid, but the timing for pushing it to the masses has been less than stellar. Let’s hope it does not affect the sales of the album for a band that deserves some attention.
I have a nice little remix of a tune from the record for you today, to freshen things up a bit if you have already heard the album a bunch, this song originally appeared on the Fatalist and Friends EP from late last year, and is also on the new album. The remix however, is just a nice little bonus for you ROHS fans. Enjoy!

And it rained. It feels as though it's been lashing down for months, with no sign of summer to cheer us up. I've certainly cut down on the snapping and I have been dipping into my "to be sorted" folder much more than ever before. Today's image shows another angle of High Street, looking down towards the new M club music venue. The eagle-eyed amongst you will notice that the old cinema sign is still up, proving beyond all doubt that I'm having to sift through old photos. The new club's paintwork and signage went up about three weeks ago. This snap was from about two months ago and yet the rain clouds are there hanging over the town. Will it ever stop?
New York's Robbers on High Street arrive with fanfare in Cambridge tonight. Their new album, "Grand Animals" is set for a summer release and the guys from the band will be playing their songs tonight at TT the Bears in Central Square. The group has garnered a large internet following after they released "The Fatalist" - the track I am sharing with you today. (With good reason, it's a great song!) Robbers will be supported at the venue by three additional bands according to my information: The Redwalls, Baby Teeth and Tulsa. Good times for just $10. Get there early as this one (a pre-holiday gig) will probably sell out.ARTIST OF THE DAYROBBERS ON HIGH STREETRobbers on High Street - The FatalistTHE DAILY WEB - more Robbers...
One of the oldest on-line Forex brokers present on the current market - High Street Networking (ForexHSI). It started its website back in 1999 and still remains a meaningful player on the market of retail Forex services. High Street Networking supports deposits via WebMoney and has a very good browser based trading platform available to its clients. Despite of this broker being unregistered with any financial controlling organization, working with such an old and established on-line company is less risky than with one of the money new Forex brokers which are not rare nowadays.
Nice idea, love the colours, but the missing "R" gives the game away somewhat. Just down from Riley's Pool and Snooker club and opposite Manhattan's, the takeaways and Steam nightclub it would seem to be the perfect location for a cheeky little bar. I've never been inside and I'm not sure if it's even open these days. A major giveaway are the wrestling/circus/fairground posters that seems to appear in all shops and businesses that are awaiting a new tenant...
A view down High Street, which always amuses me with its varied buildings. There's Riley's pool and snooker, Manhattan's "gentlemen's club", Bombay curry house, A.N. Other takeaway (never remember its name), Steam nightclub (plus other bars), the old cinema and, down at the bottom, some waste land prime for development. In fact, where the old car dealership used to stand has seen some activity of late with a few skips and vans parked there. No idea whether something's about to spring up but the whole area is in need of an image change. Opposite (out of shot) there are now a number of boarded-up premises, including the old Crewe Chronicle offices down on the corner. With talk of new developments linking the town centre to Nantwich Road via the Mill Street corridor you can appreciate that many potential investors will wait to see what lands on the planning table...

Next month sees the launch of Topshop’s latest adventure - a collection of clothing designed through a collaboration with supermodel Kate Moss. Due to a whirl of media hype surrounding it, the collection is playing lead role in what is fast becoming a common trend in high street fashion. With the success of Madonna’s collaboration for H&M and Lily Allen soon to launch a line for New Look, chains seem to have reached a new era in which the seemingly invincible bubble of the celebrity is currently looking to take over yet another area.
To create the eagerly anticipated collection, Moss and the Topshop team used her wardrobe as inspiration to design a line of clothing. Using existing items she already owned, Moss intervened by suggesting mixing and matching shapes and materials to produce something original. In an interview for Vogue, the supermodel claimed “It’s great. I can say I want this boot, with that heel. There ar
Continuing the High Street theme, but for those not familiar with Crewe it's not really a high street anymore. Elsewhere we have a town centre (or sorts) and the Nantwich Road area over by the train station. Confused? Most are. However, despite a number of businesses disappearing or closing along High Street the long-standing nightclub (currently called Steam) carries on regardless. It's had numerous name, rooms and themes, and I reckon most from the town have either attended a function, club or themed night here at some point (although I bet many would deny all knowledge). With the Phoenix Leisure Park just a few hundred yards away many thought that this area would boom, and to some extent I suppose it has. The pub/bars continue to thrive, the snooker/pool club is going strong and there's now a strip joint, Manhattan's, to attract customers before they end their evening with a sit-down curry or takeaway. Heaven for some, hell for others. What has surprised me is that the Eaton Str
I thought I'd feature a few of the not-so pretty bits of Crewe this week. I know, you all thought that it was the perfect, picture-postcard town, right? Well, the reality is that plenty of businesses regularly close or move and the old premises become neglected. Take High Street, once home to clubs and bars, a cinema, two newspaper offices and more. The pub/clubs have changed names many times over the years but still survive. There's even a pole dancing, or should we say "gentlemen's" club called Manhattan's if you're into that kinda thing. Pool and snooker survives at Rileys, but the cinema is all-but finished since the phoenix Leisure Park opened. The Crewe Chronicle newspaper office has moved to Victoria Street (part of the Queensway block that will also be bulldozed soon), and the car dealership at the bottom has been levelled. Several other small businesses have also shut up shop. So what future this area of town? I reckon not much will change until other town centre developm
It’s not due to hit shelves till June, so I was a bit surprised to see the new full length from Robbers On High Street hit my mailbox this week. Even so, after 3 times through, it’s a bit of an early dissapointment. The strongest tracks so far are the ones you are already familiar with. “The Fatalist” and “Married Young” from the late 06 EP. And “Crown Victoria”, which has been a live standby from the band for awhile now. The jury remains out on this one, as it should, since we are still 3 months from a street date. And in the interest of not getting too ahead of ourselves, here is a track from “Grand Animals” for your streaming enjoyment.
