If your hernia isn’t painful, you don’t need surgery
If you have a hernia in your groin, your doctor will likely schedule outpatient surgery to fix it, but a new study in the Journal of the American Medical Association says IF YOUR HERNIA ISN’T PAINFUL, YOU DON’T NEED SURGERY. In the study, 720 men with groin hernias were randomly assigned either to have their hernias [...]

      How To Suspect Hiatal Hernia?
In general, hernia can occur in your body when any part in the body protrudes through the gap or opening into other part. Alou suffered the injury during Monday's game against the Atlanta Braves. The 41-year-old missed two-and-a-half months last season due to a quad injury. He has played in no more than 98 games in each of the past two seasons. Alou batted .341 with 13 homers and 48 RBI in 87 games last year.

      Hernia Repair And Abdominoplasty:
A hernia is an unusually occurring protrusion of internal organs through a weakness in a muscular wall. They generally occur in the intestines and a repair or removal is recommended when a hernia is painful and interferes with daily activities or restricts the blood flow. They are also known to block the intestines. Some rare cases of hernia require a tummy tuck surgery or a panniculectomy surgery to be performed along with a hernia repair. However, this combined procedure depends on the severity of the hernia and the tissue mass in the area to be operated. Experienced cosmetic surgeons can perform such a combined procedure only if the hernia is small and if the tummy tuck surgery involves tightening the midline. But if the hernia in question is large or if the tissues are thin, it

      beware of hernia surgeries
It's scary to read about problematic surgeries made by medical and healthcare professionals... I mean, we tend to expect doctors not to make mistakes, do we? I was reading about how the Kugel Hernia Mesh had caused adverse side effects and reactions to many hernia patients who had undergone the surgery. Worse still, some of the Composix Kugel Mesh Patches were recalled by the manufacturer as the ring can break under the stress when placed in the abdominals. So if you know of anyone who is suffering from a hernia surgery discomfort, it's time to seek the proper legal consultation.

      Hernia Mesh Recall
Did you go through hernia surgery? Did you experience persistent pain or discomfort after the surgery? If your answer to both of the questions above is yes, seek immediate medical attention! The Kugel Mesh Patch was supposed to improve the hernia operations and reduce post-surgical complications. However, the Kugel patch has done totally opposite from what it supposed to do. The defect in the "memory recoil ring" that opens the Composix Kugel Mesh Patch can lead to bowel perforations and/or chronic intestinal fistulae, or abnormal connections or passageways between the intestines and other organs.Hernia Mesh Recall Warns Patients of Risk of Death, seek immediate medical attention if you experienced persistent pain. If you are not sure which type of mesh patch was used during your hernia surgery, request a free legal consultation from Mark & Associates, P.C. or visit www.herniameshlawsuit.com today!

Eagles TE L.J. Smith’s Injury not related to Sports Hernia
Philadelphia Head Coach AndyReid, said L.J. Smith’s injury is in the same area as the sports hernia that required surgery in May, but he said an exam revealed that the two injuries are actually unrelated. Smith is still facing a significant layoff, although it’s impossible right now to speculate how much time he’ll miss. “It’s too early to tell,” Reid said. “We’ll take it slow and see how he does. It’s still pretty tender.” Reported by Reuben Crank, Philly Burbs <<<Hotwire>>> This is both good and bad news. The good news is its not related to the sports hernia, but the bad news is coach Reid already indicated that he would have a significant layoff. If you haven’t already done so, now’s the time to drop Smith down in your draft boards. Matt Schobel would make an okay filler for a week or two but I just don’t see the Eagles  expecting him to contribute as much as L.J. Smith has.

More on the Sports Hernia Front
Research out of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis has demonstrated that the surgical repair of sports hernias successfully returned athletes to competition in 93 percent of cases. The results of 61 sports hernia repair surgeries and a follow-up rehab program were presented at the annual meeting of the American Orthopaedic Society of Sports Medicine, held in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. This topic has been covered by this blog in the past, so it is interesting to note that they were able to get athletes back to their sport in five weeks after surgery. Harmy hernia strikes again
THE recurrence of a hernia injury has ruled England fast bowler Stephen Harmison out of the first Test with India, starting at Lord's on Thursday. He has been replaced in England's 13-man squad by Hampshire pace bowler Chris Tremlett. Durham quick Harmison was reassessed by a member of the England medical staff at Horsham, where his county was playing champion Sussex on Sunday, and will see a specialist today to determine whether surgery is required. England's chairman of selectors, David Graveney, said overnight: "We have taken the precaution of adding Chris Tremlett to the squad following confirmation this morning that Stephen Harmison will not be available. "Chris performed well in the recent England Lions tour match against India and his inclusion will give us additional options when we come to decide on our starting XI for Thursday." Harmison aggravated the injury while playing at Horsham, where he bowled just five overs before withdrawing from the match. The

      The Sports Hernia Part 1
Last week I attended a presentation at one of the local hospitals here in Philadelphia on the topic of sports hernias. The standard format for the meeting is a review of selected articles on a particular topic in sports medicine, followed by a 'lively' discussion. This is often well attended by physicians, physical therapists, athletic trainers, etc. At this meeting, three guest speakers were invited to present their current research in the area of the sports hernia. The speakers included Dr. Alan Schuricht, Dr. William Meyers, and Dr. Adam Zoga. The first two have previously published on this topic (see below), while Dr. Adam Zoga from Jefferson University Hospital presented his unpublished research on the use of MRI to diagnose sports hernia.I will try to post my summary of the evening later this weekend, but in the meantime I have attached links to the articles discussed.Groin Pain in AthletesMacintyre J, Johnson C, Schroeder ELCurrent Sports Medicine Reports 2006, 5:293-29

      The Sports Hernia Part 2
In a previous post I mentioned that I had been to a presentation on the topic of sports hernias, which featured three guest speakers who presented current research/information on the topic. The speakers included Dr. Alan Schuricht, Dr. William Meyers, and Dr. Adam Zoga. The first two have previously published on the sports hernia (see reference articles below), while Dr. Adam Zoga from Jefferson University Hospital presented his unpublished research on the use of MRI to diagnose sports hernia. Here is my summary of the event...So what exactly is a sports hernia? From my understanding, each speaker seemed to have a slightly different opinion on what specifically a sports hernia is, but it seems to be more of a 'catch-all' term to describe any pain localized to the lower abdominal region (ie. athletic pubalgia). Pain is located in the lower abdominal or inguinal region (localized to the rectus abdominus and adductor longus insertion on the pubic symphysis), often with exertion whi
