Here is an interesting paper by Tony Burke delivered to SBL (Society of Biblical Literature). It is entitled Heresy Hunting in the New Millennium.A cottage industry of books has emerged in the past few years responding to apparent "attacks" on the Christian faith by such perceived enemies as the Jesus Seminar, Bart Ehrman, Dan Brown's novel The Da Vinci Code, and the discoverers of the so-called

What follows below is an absolutely SHOCKING one minute video of pastor John Hagee saying that Jesus did not come to earth to be Messiah:What do you all think about this video? This has the Christian world in an uproar! Here is a scripture which clearly shows what Jesus claimed to be:John 4:25-2625The woman said, "I know that Messiah" (called Christ) "is coming. Oprah Winfrey and her good friend Eckhart Tolle continue to lead more than two million down the wide open road to destruction while unashamedly twisting Scripture along the way.

Have you noticed the odd religious bent certain jokes at Yo Momma have?
This frightens me, because this man imagines a timeless, infinite mother, existing beyond space, of such enormous and terrifying dimensions that she inconveniences God. It’s really pretty Lovecraftian. I’ll have a hard time sleeping tonight.

Chapter 7: Heresy is paganism revisited. The world is wise in its own eyes. It has always chosen to be blinded by its own reason and to shut out God. The world is man’s attempt to build for himself a Garden of Eden. If he can shut out God, he thinks he can be happy; but all that he will become is isolated and deluded – in other words, man’s Eden becomes a living hell.Man uses his mind to sever himself from God. He concocts words and makes mighty manuscripts to rid himself of God’s penetrating presence. Sadly, he forgets that God is both the Original Spirit and the Progenitor of the Living Word. No matter how excellently man crafts his words and creates his ideas, he can never separate himself from the One, True and Living God, for man’s existence and thought is dependent upon the benevolent sovereignty and favor of God.Each generation produces its unholy band of heretics. Today’s world is not protected from the foolish prognostications of false prophets and deluded philosoph
I wasn't really sure how Maritime could get much better and didn't know how the band could possibly top last year's excellent album We The Vehicles. The answer is that on their new record, Heresy And The Hotel Choir, Maritime is at the top of their game. They sound more cohesive than ever and not just like a vehicle for Davey Von Bohlen's supremely sweet songs. All truth be told (however), I said the same exact thing about We The Vehicles and somehow it is true in both cases. Being a huge fan of Davey's previous band (The Promise Ring) as well as former bassist Eric Axelson's (The Dismemberment Plan), Maritime has been on my radar since their inception. Their first album Glass Floor sounded like a band searching for an identity, while (as stated) last year's We The Vehicles was leaps and bounds better. Heresy And The Hotel Choir isn't a huge leap forward for the band, but (rather) a refinement of their brisk but sunny sound. The new album is filled from start to finish w
To reject a heretic is to disarm him of any credibility. The task of the Church is not only to neutralize the ideas and opinions of heretics, but also to enhance and edify orthodox beliefs. The unity of the Church across the centuries depends upon its ability to confront heresy and maintain the authority of Christ’s message at the same time. Too harsh a condemnation will result in people rooting for the underdog and taking up with heresy. Too much indifference and heresy will grow like a theological tumor on the body of Christ.A person chooses to be heretical and accepts false teachings because of the power, esteem and assurance it gives him. The teachings of Christ are diminished and His sovereignty is questioned. A typical heretic will not be able to give Christ the proper respect and authority that He has. Christ’s sovereignty is denigrated by the heretic through not being able to express Christ’s absolute power of salvation. The heretic chooses to not believe that Christ is t
Chapter 5 - Every Generation in the Church needs to be aware of Heresy. Apart from confronting heresy, the Church also needs to use it as a means of fortifying the faith. The Gospel message has to be purely preached in every generation, otherwise the values of the past, which belong to Christ, will degenerate and faith will diminish. Popular slogans such as “getting back to the basics” or “what would Jesus do?” have lost their appeal because they have been used too often and treated glibly by Christians. What the Church requires is a long term plan for each generation to be nurtured and grown in the faith from birth to death. Biblical ignorance feeds heresy; Christian education destroys it.Heresy seeks out the young and the lost. It looks for immaturity of faith and disappointment in the Church. It preys upon dissension and division, uncertainty and unholiness. It is cultic and tantalizing, hypnotic and intriguing. Souls are lost to heresy in people that seek flattery, importan
Luke 12:31 But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. (NIV)
A lot of Americans are buying into what has been coined as “the prosperity gospel.” Its message goes something like this: God will be good to you, if you believe in His promises; God will make you successful, if you ask Him. It ties up the American dream with the Christian faith, and a lot of mega-churches are
Chapter 2: Heresy is a Virus that Attacks the Church from Within.
Heresy’s existence in the church is not a cause for alarm, but of pity. Just like a computer virus, the heretic has been contaminated with bad theology and wayward faith. He or she has supplanted humility with pride, faith with arrogance, and belief with obstinacy. The heretic believes that he or she is expressing their freedom
Knights Templar win heresy reprieve after 700 years
A detail is shown on a replica document in which Pope Clement V absolved the Knights Templar of charges of heresy, in Rome October 9, 2007. A reproduction of the Latin-language minutes of trials against the Knights Templar in 1308, lost until its rediscovery in 2001, is being published by the Vatican Secret Archives at the end October. The documents, a book and parchments, costs 5,900 euros and its 799 numbered copies are destined for top libraries and medieval scholars. Picture taken October 9, 2007. REUTERS/Alessandro Bianchi
The Templars, whose full name was “Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon”, were founded in 1119 by knights sworn to protecting Christian pilgrims visiting the Holy Land after the Crusaders captured Jerusalem in 1099.
The most titillating part of the documents is the so-called Chinon Parchment, which contains phrases in which Pope Clement V absolves the Templars of charges of h

Chapter 1: Heresies Exist
The character of the beginning of the 21st century is such that people everywhere declare their own truths to be self-evident in their own lives. Institutional truth is rejected, but individual truth is revered. Traditional values are mocked, whilst brazen boldness is idolized. In his search for ultimate pleasure and unrestricted delight, 21st
Now that I have everyone’s attention . . . LOLROFL Seriously, thanks for what you said John. And if I hadn’t had to give up drinking because of my bipolar disorder that would be going out for MacCallan’s single malt, 12 year. Sigh. Illness does inhibit the little pleasures of life. I’m not quite sure how to respond to your post. Clearly we disagree as to the source of truth. I will say I am concerned with your use of the word autonomous. The Greek means a law unto one’s self. Maybe you don’t mean it that way. So, can we move on to other topics? Like the Bible passages I assigned you? As I suggested in my email, choose one. Otherwise you may end up with as long a blog as I sent you! Grace and Peace Bob
This indie pop band, once a trio, now sporting four members, are back and are prepping their third full length album. The band was originally formed out of the remains of The Dismemberment Plan and The Promise Ring and seem to have found the right amount of cohesiveness to succeed together. Maritime’s last album, We The Vehicles, was a underrated gem back in 2006 and I am hoping for another one out of their upcoming release.
The new album will be titled Heresy and the Hotel Choir and hits stores on October 16th. The new one will be their second release on the excellent Flameshovel Records label also. Here are two songs from the new album to get you excited, and one from We The Vehicles as well just for good measure.

Maritime - Science Fiction
And from We The Vehicles
