The Stock Dividends & Herbie McIntosh
Now I came to Needham in 1965.   There was a town resident named Herbie McIntosh (originally spelled MacIntosh).    Herbie was quite old when I first saw him walking up Great Plain Avenue from his home close to the Wellesley line.  He would walk closer to the ground, it seemed every time I saw him.  He would walk to the Post Office in the center of town and side on the large window sill in the old post office on Chestnut Street.  As he sat opening mail, which was one dividend after another, as the story goes.  It would be 5 feet high.  This very old man would walk with him brief case.  I really don't know how he could carry that and himself.Herbie had attended Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts and he became a lawyer.  I

Herbie Hancock “River: The Joni Letters”
Since Herbie Hancock won Album of the Year for River: The Joni Letters, I thought I’d post this video about the making of the album. This video has a short interview with Herbie and some shots of them recording tracks on River: The Joni Letters.

      Herbie House Signs
When we were asked to paint a picture of Herbie onto a sign, we decided it would be far better to just make the car instead! Unfortunately it is one of the worst photo’s we have taken, so it doesn’t look great, but keep in mind that this is a completely flat sign. It’s amazing [...]

2008 Grammy Winners Winehouse West and Who is Herbie Hancock?
The 50th annual Grammys aired with fewer boring acceptance speeches than usual—and seemingly fewer awards than usual. Most of the awards from the show’s 110 categories are not presented as part of the television broadcast. This is a good thing, since among the many riveting categories are Best Polka Album, Best Album Notes, and Best Surround [...]

Herbie Hancock with Santana & Angilique Kidjo - Safiatou
Listening to Herbie this week took me to my cd closet. I spent many hours with this cd today, so you get to re-visit it with me. Santana and Herbie worked in tandem to create a wonderful opening to this friendly samba. Reminds me of the close relationship of Mies and Trane on their collaborations. Angelique sings beautifully, and we are treated to a whole slew of musicians who work together to bring joy to those with ears to hear. Shoutout for When Love Comes to Town with Joss Stone & Jonny Lang Herbie Hancock

      Herbie Hancock – Solitude
Dave Holland on bass pulls me through the eye of the needle as I visit the heavens with Herbie and Vinnie Colaiuta. It’s so great to see Billie’s eyes sparkling as she listens to this piece with Duke by her side. We are all in agreement, that no performance could out classic her own, but Herbie manages to take it beyond the realm of classic into the realm of peace and distinct awareness of our need to contemplate our purpose without interference from others. Perfect solitude is a necessity. Wayne Shorter joins ont party on the shoutout tune, Both Sides Now. A fine visit to beat-era stylings rounds out this tasty treat with Leonard Cohen intoning The Jungle Line. Herbie Hancock

This Herbie is no love bug...
Goin' back in the day with an all-time great...Today the shuffle landed on a track from zee legendary Herbie Hancock, from his second Blue Note album (from 1963, if you're scoring at home). As you can see from the cover art, we're talking all-star lineup, here, folks. All killa, no filla! Now, Herbie has certainly gone the way of the old man lately, crafting forgettable pop albums (I'll take a big ol' pass on the Joni Mitchell tribute, bro), but this'll remind you why he's considered one of the greats. Enjoy...Herbie Hancock - And What If I Don't (ysi)And this was just when he was starting out! Then he played with Miles, then he started Headhunters, then he recorded stuff like Sextant that predated Aphex Twin by oh, twenty years, and then he made "Rockit", and so on, and so on... ... and hey, why not...Wik-Wik-Whaa...
