DENNIS DIXONQB - OREGONHeight: 6-4 Weight: 206 40-Time: 5.30College Coach: Mike BellottiIn round five, the Steelers selected Oregon QB Dennis Dixon, a 2007 Heisman candidate who suffered a torn ACL during the season. Dixon is still rehabbing the knee injury and looks to be a long-range solution as the team's backup quarterback. His athleticism could also be displayed in a Kordell Stewart/Antwaan Randle-El style until then.Notes on Dixon:--2007 stats: 20 TD, 4 INT, 2136 yards, 67.7% completion percentage in 9 games--Drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 20th round of the 2003 MLB Draft--Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 5th round of the 2007 MLB Draft--Hit a LaRoche-esque .176 in 74 at bats with two Atlanta Braves rookie league teams in 2007--Sat behind current Jets QB Kellen Clemens wh
Water polo's Heisman — the Peter J. Cutino award has announced it's men's finalistys: Tim Hutten, UC Irvine California's Michael Sharf USC goalie Adam Shilling. From the Daily Pilot Article: The winner will be announced June 7, at the ninth annual Peter J. Cutino Awards Night Dinner at The Olympic Club in San Francisco. The award is given annually in honor of the late Peter J. Cutino, the former University of California and The Olympic Club coach, who passed away in September 2004. Cutino
Florida Gators Quarterback, Tim Tebow makes history by becoming first underclassmen to win the Heisman Trophy. Tebow was homeschooled through high school, but took advantage of a Florida law that allows homeschooled students to participate in extracurricular activities in public and private schools.
Their was history in the making Saturday Nite in the Big Apple with the first underclassman ever to lift up the bronze, as it was made possible with Sophomore lefty from the “Chomping” University of Florida - QB Tim Tebow. The Gator took home the most prestigious award in College Football, as he finished ahead of standout Razorback RB Darren McFadden (Arkansas, Jr.) in a close race, while QB’s Colt Brennan (Hawaii) and Chase Daniel (Mizzou) were distant third and fourth place vote getters.
Tebow set numerous records, even breaking good ‘ole Florida legend Emmith Smith’s mark for the most rushing TD’s in the South Eastern Conference (SEC). Along with that accolade, Tebow now holds the record for most rushing scores by a QB in Division I and the most combined TD’s in a season (51). He set high standards and started a new, exciting trend in a year that featured the spread offense more and more, being occupied by mobile, nifty QB’s under t
Tim Tebow needed only two years of college to graduate to Heisman Trophy winner, putting the sophomore in a class by himself.Florida’s folk-hero quarterback with the rugged running style and magnetic personality won the Heisman on Saturday night to become the first sophomore or freshman to take college football’s most prestigious award.

Nearly two years after Reggie Bush won the Heisman Trophy, a book detailing improper benefits he allegedly received while playing for the University of Southern California and his relationship with the financiers of a fledgling sports marketing company could further damage his chances of keeping the most prestigious award in college sports.
The book, "Tarnished Heisman" by Don Yaeger and Jim
No Nobody from FSU made it but DAMN, look at that!
The Heisman Trophy Finalists were announced today. This reminds me, the first Heisman Trophy resides at Senior High School here in Dubuque (one of two of them, the other is at the University of Chicago…Jay Berwanger attended both and gave them to his schools). I think I’m going to hang out in the parking lot and put a 12 pack and a pack of smokes bounty on it for a kid to swipe it for me. Wouldn’t that be cool to have?
So anyway, the finalists…
I’ll chime in later in the week with some thoughts. In the meantime if you want to get in on our voting for this which I will add the results later in the week, CLICK HERE.
Missouri QB Chase Daniel
Arkansas RB Darren McFadden
Florida QB Tim Tebow
Hawaii QB Colt Brennan
The Downtown Athletic Club has announced the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy which is given annually since 1935 to the most outstanding college football player.
Colt Brennan, QB, Hawaii
Lead Hawaii to a 12-0 season. College foootballs all time passing leader in many categories, most notably touchdowns. He had six 400 yard passing games this season and two 500 yard passing yard games. He finished the season with 4,174 passing yards with 46 total.
Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas
Last years Heisman runner up. 1725 yards rushing yards. 20 total touchdowns. He lead the Razorbacks to a stunning triple overtime victory over then number 1 LSU.
Tim Tebow, QB, Florida
First player in the league to ever have 20+ passing touchdowns and 20+ rushing touchdowns. He accounted for 51 total touchdowns passing for 3970 total yards.
Chase Daniel, QB, Missouri
Lead the Tigers to a breakthrough season. 4170 passing yards with 37 td’s and he lead the Tigers to a great victory in the bord
This has been anything but the standard Heisman Race. I'd like to weigh in quickly with what has become increasingly obvious to me over the last few weeks.Coming into the week I really liked Dennis Dixon to win. I even watched this commercial profusely taking great entertainment from it:With my top candidate Dennis Dixon out of contention, how many legitimate players are out there that can satisfy that general voter urge to choose a contender from a highly-ranked squad? Here's what I see:I'm reluctant to say it but i see Time Tebow as the front-runner to win the Heisman right now...even with 3 losses! In the midst of a roller-coaster ride of a season I think voters are just starting to warm up to the idea of the underclassman winning it with 3 losses. Tebow is set to go down with Archie Griffin in Heisman lore. That's good for Tebow, good for the Heisman and good for college football. If he wins I don't think that automatically means that we'll start seeing underclassmen win it e
Sorry I haven't posted within the last few days but I've been busy with work and softball lately, plus grittysquirrels is on vacation. With the College Football season less than a month away, TSF is excited and gearing up for it. Here are TSF's top Heisman hopefuls for the upcoming 2007 season. Enjoy...In no particular order as of now:Darren McFadden- Jr. - RB- ArkansasAfter finishing 2nd in last years race, McFadden has to be the front-runner. For the season, he rushed for 1,647 yards and 14 TDs. The multi-threat RB should definitely be the favorite if Arkansas competes for the SEC Championship again, which they definitely will. Just think how much better his numbers would be if he didn't have to share the load with Felix Jones. Again, expect even bigger numbers from McFadden this season with a slightly easier schedule.John David Booty- Sr.- QB- USCBooty has a lot of advantages here with the Trojans the pre-season favorite. It should also help that 3 good offensive linemen return.
John HeismanWhat weighs 25 pounds is made of bronze and is bad luck for quarterbacks in the NFL. Fourteen quarterbacks have won the Heisman Trophy since 1971 and very few have had any success in the NFL. The strange thing is everybody knows this, but they still get selected in the NFL Draft way higher than they should, year after year. Yes people, the 2006 winner Troy Smith was selected in the fifth round and he probably shouldn’t have even been picked in the NFL Draft at all. There were five players selected ahead of Smith in the 2007 NFL Draft from his own team! He was supposed to be the best player in college football last year, but he wasn’t even in the top 5 of his own team. Here is an example of how distorted the Heisman Trophy has become, did you know that Troy Smith’s 2,540 votes were the 3rd most votes since 1968, only behind OJ Simpson in 1968 (2,853 votes) and Reggie Bush in 2005 (2541 votes). OJ’s 2,853 votes back in 1968 were pretty amazing. I am 43 years old so I r
If you think for one minute that it won’t stick in the back of his mind all the teams that passed on Heisman quarterback Troy Smith - think again. Smith is set to wear purple this season and will likely start out, but not end up as the number three quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. I’ll go out on a limb and say that we will see Smith lineup under center in more than one NFL game this season for the Ravens. One reason is due to how fragile quarterback Steve McNair has been over the past few seasons, and the other is the fact that Kyle Boller is….well, Kyle Boller. Plus truth be told with Boller being a free agent at the end of the season, you would think the staff would want to give Smith a long look if the opportunity presented itself.
Smith was taken a bit later than where many thought he would be. Most had him going in mid to late third round, or possibly early fourth, but instead he made it all the way to the late fifth round, going with the number 175 pick in
Ohio State's record setting QB Troy Smith appears to be yet another Heisman flop. After winning the Heisman Trophy and leading Ohio State to an undefeated regular season, Smith looked like anything but an NFL Prospect during the BCS Championship game against Florida. Will the real Troy Smith please stand up. Yes I know, one game doesn't make or break a player, but in the eyes of NFL Scouts a game like that can change a lot of opinions, especialy if the scout was on the bubble anyway, as many were due to his lack of height, Smith will probably "measure out" at the NFL Combine at barely six foot tall.So what did I see that confirmed my opinion? Well, mainly arm strength and an awkward throwing motion. Do you remember right before the end of the first half against Florida at the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl (BCS Championship Game); The Buckeyes were at about the Florida 45 yard line, with just enough time to throw one hail marry pass and Smith ran up to the line of scrimmage and heaved the ball

Troy Smith is quite the man. He’s the quarterback of the #1 football team in the country. He’s a probable first round (if not first overall) draft pick, he’s dating Beyonce (we haven’t been able to confirm this one for sure, but we’re pretty sure it’s true), and he just won the Heisman Trophy.
For those who ever said that the government ever shows preferential treatment to those that are better off, well, they’re probably right, but apparently that courtesy doesn’t extend as far as the TSA (the airport security dudes). As it turns out, Troy Smith wasn’t able to take his Heisman Trophy on the plane, like Eddie George did (the last Buckeye to win the leather helmeted dude). Of course, Eddie’s trophy had one finger bent when it go stuck in the x-ray machine (I think I know which finger it was).
Can’t you just imagine the questioning process?
Security: “Sir, what the hell is that?”
Smith: “Uh, this?
1. Troy Smith QB(OSU) IDLE
Troy Smith is going to win the Heisman, I don't think that their is any doubt about that. Throughout the whole season he has been very consistant through the air and the ground. He has transformed himself into a pure passer that has the ability to escape. Last year he had 16 passing touchdowns, this year, he has tossed 30. Passing yards, he's only up around 300, but he has really proven that he can stand in the pocket and let plays develop, if you don't believe me then look at his rushing yards. Last year he had 136 carries for 611 yards and 11 TDs, this year, he only has taken off 62 times for 233 yards and 1 touchdown. 2006 Heisman winner= Troy Smith.
2. Darren McFadden RB(ARK) 21 car 73 yds, 2 rec 27 yds, 1-3 2 yds 1 TD, 1 INT
To be completely honest with all of you, it took me quite a few games to see the light. Well, I have seen the light, and it can do it all. Run, pass and catch, the next LT. McFadden is only a sophomore, so he has at least
1. Troy Smith QB(OSU) Look, I have had him #1 the whole season, he's going to win.
2. Darren McFadden RB(ARK) 21 car 182 yds 2 TDs,2-2 33 yds,1 rec 7 yds
3. Brady Quinn QB(ND) 22-45 274 3 TDs , 11 car 74 yds
4. Ian Johnson RB(BOISE) 31 car 147 yds 3 TDs
5. Ray Rice RB(RUTG) 23 car 107 1 TD
Before we get started, I made a mistake. I said earlier that I had had Troy Smith #1 on my Heisman list the whole season. Well, I just checked all my Heisman post and was shocked to find out that in Week 4 I had Adrian Peterson ranked #1 and Smith #2. It's not a big deal, if you look at the stats, Peterson deserved it, but I was pretty sure I had Smith #1 the whole time, oh well.At 7:55 PM, one of Troy Smith's biggest dreams came through. He was awarded the 2006 Heisman Memorial Trophy. He deserved it, after the season that he had, it was hard to argue that he shouldn't have received it. But the most important stat that you won't see in the stat books, the one stat that won him the most highley regarded award in all of College Football, was his leadership. When Jim Tressell needed someone to step up, Troy was there, whenever The Ohio State needed a score, Troy was leading them.I have been watching the Heisman presentation for many years now and never have I heard a speach quite lik
