Heartbreak ~ Do They Hurt As We Do?
I just got my little man off the bus.Remember "Kathy" I spoke of in my last post? Well, the bus driver called me over. I was preparing myself for some incident that happened. But, this time it was about "Kathy." It appears this may be her last day at school -- her family has moved and she isn't sure which school she will be attending. I asked the driver if she could find out from her family for sure as I would like to prepare my son if this happens. Somehow, though, I think "Kathy" got the message over to him because he lingered longer outside the bus window looking, smiling and touching the glass while I spoke to the driver. I could actually see a bit of sadness and yes, even love in his eyes.Children lower on the spectrum than say Aspergers -- do they feel heartbreak as we do? I guess th

Editor’s note: This is the latest in a series of articles about Darwin, Alice Springs, and the quirkiness that is the Northern Territory of Australia by Jack Brown. You can read Jack’s previous post here, to catch up on where the road’s taken him. HEARTBREAK HOTEL, NT, AUSTRALIA: When heartbreak strikes — could it be what the bushmen call the Disappointment of Disappointment? — the road beckons and it’s time to move on once more. The unrealised “wild town and crazy Friday night” that we expected from Cape Crawford’s Heartbreak Hotel (if you’re looking for the segue, it’s here, about halfway down the page) left us with little more than a hot-morning-come-sunrise and the onset of serious humidity, thanks to our transition into the tropics and the early gatherings of the “build-up”. Ben Stiller says, "stay in school".The movie itself centers around a guy (Ben Stiller) who proposes way too quickly to a girl (Malin Akerman). They head off on their honeymoon and he realizes she's a nightmare and simultaneously meets the real girl of his dreams. Hilarity ensues. The soundtrack centers around a guy (David Bowie) and a bunch of other guys (The Flaming Lips) and even more people (Ozomatli, Matthew Sweet, Buva, etc). It's really quite good, and I have a copy to give away. Here's the deal. Just leave a comment with your name, e-mail, and a pun-derful phrase and I'll enter you into the contest. The Daily Heartbeat or the Daily Heartbreak?
The iPulse, as I believe Ashlea has mentioned, is Lynn University’s student newspaper. I think a student newspaper is an amazing thing to have on a campus; it’s a way to reach out to students and make them aware of the happenings on campus. It’s recently been reformatted, and that change has improved it so much. However, I do have (quite) a few complaints regarding this publication. I’ll start out simple: I was reading the tenth issue for this year and there was an article that had a sentence that went something like this: “He is also excepting electronic submission with a cover e-mail.” I don’t feel like this article could have been edited. I think someone should have picked up on the fact that ‘excepting’ should have been ‘accepting’ and ’submission’ needs an ’s’ at the end. I catch things like this all the time in the iPulse.  In another article, I read that “the following stores will

Jacko, Yoshi & the Heartbreak Hotel
Danny Baker's 1980 article for the NME about Michael Jackson, and his brothers, titled “The great Greenland mystery”, may well be my favourite piece of music writing ever. The subject matter lends itself to the bizarre, of course. For the most part of this pretty lengthy article, the Jackson angle is at once central and peripheral, sometimes at the same time. The best example of that is an account of a press conference in LA, held to promote The Jackson’s Triumph album (the one with the soaring “can You Feel It”). From experience I know that his portrayal of these events is hilariously accurate. Especially so in the context of entertainment writing, as I experienced during a brief excursion into the field in the early '90s.Here then the pertinent excerpts from Baker’s classic and very, very funny article (followed by a few Jacko tracks for your pleasure):I LOVE press conferences. Nobody says anything for the first ten minutes and then, when someone does, questions fly abou

      The Heartbreak Kid Poster
Uhmm, this is an interesting variation. There are many comedy posters like this, with the title treatment in the bottom against a white background and some image occupying most of the rest of the poster. But in this case instead of the image being some inane depiction of the main characters together, like what we have in the poster for Along Come Polly, it is an image from smack in the middle of what is sure to be one of many physical jokes from the actual movie. I like it. It makes the poster more funny, and gives everybody a good idea of the kind of comedy this is going to be. And it still manages to do the obligatory reminding of people that Ben Stiller is in it. A decent effort. (From CinemaBlend, found via MovieMarketingMadness)

Maroon 5: At the Corner of Hollywood and Heartbreak
Excerpt from Issue 1034 by Gavin Edwards Rock bands have been known to argue about almost anything. Maroon 5 are different. They argue about everything. Sometimes the debates are substantive. They had a heated battle over where their second album, It Won’t Be Soon Before Long, should fall in the sonic spectrum between polished R&B and the chaos of energetic rock. (They compromised, and the record includes both — part of why it debuted at Number One.) More often, their arguments are meaningless turf wars between five highly opinionated, stubborn men. “It’s a high-ego band,” says lead singer Adam Levine. Among the disputes that continued on Maroon 5’s tour bus for far too long (sometimes months): the pop-punk influence on Pink’s first album; the prospects of Howard Dean before he screamed; whether the movie Wild Things had a sense of humor; whether psychedelic mushrooms provide an escape from reality or a different perspective on it. Pesto: A Story of Heartbreak
So I grew up eating pesto very infrequently because my mother, despite liking basil, dislikes pesto. Once I was on my own, I gobbled it up every chance I got, and experimented with different green stuff (parsley, cilantro), different nuts (almonds, walnuts, pecans, filberts) and different hard cheeses, as well as sometimes adding a little butter to the finished product. I had never made pesto during my married life, because (and I will explain all about this one day) for the past ten years I have been cooking things that Sandra Lee might feature on her show. Now that I’m cooking for real again, I bought basil at the market, toasted some pine nuts, whipped up a batch of pesto and served it for dinner with penne, served it to Rob (who has never tried it) and found out that…he hates it, too. He tried manfully, but I have to respect an honest dislike for certain foods. I will still make the pesto. I will freeze pesto for darkest winter, and I will eat it with all my senses bec

      Heartbreak and Hounds
I feel sick. I feel sad. I feel sort of shell-shocked.I worked with the local Humane Society tonight at an adoption fair we were having. It was great to see several puppies get new homes, but hardly anyone looked at the adult dogs. They sat in their cages watching people walk by, wagging their tails and hoping for some attention. Most people didn't even look at them. They went to the pen with the fat, playful puppies in it. These are all great dogs that have been cast aside for one reason or another. At the end of our adoption fair, back to the shelter they went. Some may be adopted later. The majority will be euthanized. I fell in love with a little female beagle mix whose eyes were half blue and half brown. She was the sweetest little dog and just wanted to be cuddled. She went back to t

I also wrote about a little beagle mix that I fell in love with at our adoption fair that day. I am happy to report that Enna, the little beagle mix, has found a new home! I volunteered at the Scott County Humane Society booth at the Scott County Fair last week, and this wonderful couple fell in love with Enna just as I did. They filled out their application, and I got to take her home that night and keep her until they picked her up the next day. She is such a sweetie. I gave her a bath and trimmed her nails, and she slept in the bed with me for a while. It was hard to hand her over on Saturday, but I know she is going to be pampered and loved

Two different paths, a heartbreak and a record deal...
Probably 90% of the songs posted in this blog are either indie pop tunes or tracks by Danish artists. But every now and then I decide to follow a completely different path in my quest for new music and the other day it paid off (at least for me it did), when I came across UK band hornby pylons. The quartet (based in Cardiff) writes this about their music: "The music made by hornby pylons has so far defied accurate description but is thought to live somewhere between the soul sonic force drum machine, 90's grunge, DFA synths and a badly mixed charity shop DJ set. And the band adds: "the music sounds like electronic drums with electric guitar near a human singing along to keyboards. if you listen closely you may hear the bands actual voices." So not at all the type of stuff you'd normally see (or hear) me post in the blog, but I really, really enjoy this very electronic sounding, somewhat monotonous, highly infectious, absolutely insisting and extremely cool track. + Think For Each Oth

      Heartbreak, Friendship and the Monster.
HeartbreakLulu told Spinelli that She didn't want to date him. Not only that she didin't want to date anyone. She didn't want to be loved or to love. The rape of her parents years before has really damaged Lulu. (did she really need more damaging?)FriendshipThis is one of the reason I love Spinelli. He was wounded so deeply but his first impluse was to pledge friendship to Lulu. ahh. I mean this is why this guy is amazing. The Monstersorry dude the guy in the hat is much coolerI am sorry to any Logan fans in the house (you all are welcome) Logan is a sick monster that should not be on screen. Friendship & Heartbreak
Oh how sweet the train wreck that is Jason's & Spinelli's friendship.Jason DOES care about Spinelli. I think he sees a lot of him self (early Jason Morgan). Poor Spinelli thought he was getting a family dinner.YES Chinese Food & a Family DinnerPoor Spinelli wanted to crawl into a hole when he realized he 'ruined' a private dinner for the Goddess & Stone Cold. He was prepared to leave the penthouse for good but Jason didn't want him too. Jason said he would worry about him. We find out that Jason is very concerned that Spinelli knows about Evil Al's demise and is more worried about Spinelli then himself.I really think that Spinelli is going to get hurt some way over his relationship with Jason. Everyone that Jason cares about gets 'hurt' sometime. The Goddess does not love me anymore :(Didn't you hear him Spinelli he said you could be charged as an accessory. He was more concerned with his friendship with Jason then his own well being. You like me you like me you really

One of the worst crimes ever committed against a person is a rape. It is deeply violating and humiliating and victims struggle with the trauma for years. Compounding the problem with a shortage of nurses is almost a crime in itself.

      Checkin' Out of Heartbreak Hotel
Artwork by ~shadradA blogger friend asked recently how she should nurse a broken heart when she loses someone whom she loves very much.Where matters of the heart are concerned, unfortunately, one cannot subscribe to a response/reaction template or formula. It differs from time to time, and varies from circumstances to circumstances. When I was younger (young and hot by the way!), breakups are common. Guys checked in and out of my life, and I thought it was just a process of growing up and finding myself. I hardly beat myself up over it because I knew there will always be someone else. Losing someone was awful no doubt, but I'd never allowed it to take precedent over other aspects of life - such as friends, work, family, school, hobbies etc. I figured it was not that I was being flippant, but rather, my priorities were somewhere else, something else.If a guy leaves me for whatever reasons, he could always be replaced by someone who may be more loving, less argumentative, more financiall

CL Ad: Getting Over Heartbreak in Phoenix
That's right, friends. We've moved from the biggest state in the continental United States to the fucking hottest city. Let me tell you about hot. Hot is 110 degrees outside--at MIDNIGHT. Hot is where you can't go for a jog outside while it's light outside or there's a 99% chance you'll get a heat stroke. By now, you know I'm talking about Phoenix. You want a textbook example of urban sprawl?
