For the last week or so, we've focused exclusively on the IAAF World Champs in Osaka. But over the past few days, two very sad events in soccer have also made headlines. First, the tragic death of a Spanish International footballer, Antonio Puerta, aged just 22 (see news article here). This was followed only days later by a heart attack to Clive Clarke, suffered during half-time of a Carling Cup match in England. Clarke is reported to be in a stable condition (click for article). The case of Puerta, in particular, sent shock-waves through the football community, when it was announced that he had died in hospital. He collapsed on the field after 35 minutes of the opening La Liga match. Team-mates and doctors rushed to his aid, prevented him from swallowing his tongue, and then escorted him off the field, as he recovered enough to walk to the change rooms. However, once there, he collapsed again, was given cardiac resuscitation and rushed to hospital. Sadly, his condition deteri

For those who like to drink cold water, this article is applicable to you. It is nice to have a cup of cold drink after a meal. However, the cold water will solidify the oily stuff that you have just consumed. It will slow down the digestion. Once this "sludge" reacts with the acid, it will break down and be absorbed by the intestine faster than the solid food. It will line the intestine. Very soon, this will turn into fats and lead to cancer. It is best to drink hot soup or hot water/tea after a meal.A serious note about heart attacks - You should know that not every heart attack symptom is going to be the left arm hurting. Be aware of intense pain in the jaw line. You may never have the first chest pain during the course of a heart attack. Nausea and in
I read the news today, oh boy. First rofecoxib (Vioxx), now this. A paper has been published in a prestigious scientific journal claiming that being on rosiglitazone, a drug used to treat diabetes, considerably increases one's risk of having a heart attack. Awesome. Diabetics rejoice. This is the second strike against this drug. A study released earlier this year by the manufacturer reported that female diabetics taking rosiglitazone had an increased incidence of limb fractures compared to those on other antidiabetic medications. So it may soften up bones by promoting osteoporosis or something.Rosiglitazone is a member of the thiazolidinedione (TZD) class of antidiabetic drugs, which are employed to treat type 2 (insulin-independent, adult onset) diabetes mellitus. TZDs bind to peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), a group of nuclear (intracellular) receptors that control the expression of a bunch of genes (i.e. function as transcription factors) and are normally activat
Not for nothing but older people have more medical issues that younger people do and generally are at risk for life threatening health emergencies at a much higher rate. It’s pointless waste if you save all your life for your golden years together and then one of you lives alone because it takes too long for an ambulance to arrive after your spouse has a heart attack.
Is there a Automated External Defibrillator (AED) anywhere in the complex? It’s not like they cost the earth compared to the price of building a large complex. Unpaid link to some is here at American AED. Anyone can use one with about 5 minutes of training.
Old dude goes down, you think it might be a heart attack. One person calls 911. One person tears his shirt open and sticks the two paddles to his chest in the places the pictures shows. Stand clear. The AED reads the hearts sinus rhythm automatically. If appropriate the AED shocks the patient. It repeats as needed.
Basically as long as you can ope
“Doctor, I have a chest pain”. Well, this phrase can immediately bring the medical attention to you. You might even be admitted immediately in ER, compare to somebody who came with another complaint. Why the care is so prompt?Simple. Myocardial infarction leads to permanent damage of your heart.
