This time, around 100,000 units of The First Years Children's Feeding Seats have been recalled due to a fall hazard. There have been 38 reports of straps pulling out of waist strap slots with 12 reports of children falling out of the chairs. The chairs recalled are The First Years Newborn-to-Toddler Reclining Feeding Seats which include a tray, reversible cushion and a three-point safety belt. On one side of the seat cushion there's a sewn-in label which reads “the first years by Learning Curve.” All seats are included in the recall apart from those with an "R' stamped inside a raised circle located on the far left and right of the back of the seatback or those with waist strap slots which are nine inches apart. GORHAM, Maine, May 8 (UPI) -- A U.S. study suggests exposure to particles of depleted uranium might increase the risk of genetic damage and lung cancer.Depleted uranium is the material remaining after removal or depletion of the U-238 isotope. With a density about twice that of lead, depleted uranium is ideal for use in military armor and munitions.But now John Pierce Wise Sr. and colleagues at the University of Southern Maine have discovered depleted uranium dust produced in combat creates potentially frequent and widespread exposure for soldiers and non-combatants inhaling such dust particles.In their study, the researchers tested the effects of depleted uranium dust on cultures of human lung cells."These data suggest that exposure to particulate DU may pose a significant genotoxic risk and could possibly result in lung cancer," the scientists said.The study is to be reported in the May 21 issue of the journal Chemical Research in Toxicology.

In other hard-to-find news, a veterinary pathologist in South Africa says this melamine-cyanuric acid contamination *is* a big deal.  Worse, he says governments are not giving it the attention it deserves. Fred Reyers, a veterinary pathologist now in private practice, made the remarks after reports released on Monday indicated that Chinese food producers regularly add melamine to animal feed and have done so for years. Melamine alone is not believed to be toxic. But a study by Brent Hoff, of the University of Guelph in Canada, has shown that the chemical was being mixed with cyanuric acid, another nitrogen-rich compound that spikes protein content, with deadly results. “They are both essentially non-toxic, but they combine in the kidneys, where they form a compound called melamine cyanurate. “And melamine cyanurate is bad news because it forms big crystals, it destroys the kidneys and kills the animals,” Reyers said. “It took us a long time to catch on becaus

Scott: As far as data feeds go, Shawn, what I would really like to see and I guess can consider a public appeal to the networks, are a few things. The first being a little bit more of a common format. The most important thing that I would like to have as an affiliate from the networks is the ability to log into my account, select the data feeds that I want to use, and actually look at them. Download them and take a look at them. Once you look at them, a lot of them are going to be non-usable or not what you wanted or whatever.
