The Hawks have lost a nice young player in Josh Childress. Where did he go? Olympiakos. He's getting $20 million for three years and will stray from being paid in our weak dollar. Maybe my friend Kellex should change the name of his site (The Sports Dollar) to the The Sports Euro. Five guys have gone from the best professional basketball league in the NBA, to all parts of the world (Russia, Spain,

There has to be nothing worse, career-wise, than to be left hanging not knowing what your job status is - especially in the NBA and specifically the Atlanta Hawks and Mike Woodson. Well folks, the suspense is over as according to Sekou Smith of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Woodson has stated that he intends to [...]
After 12 years and 12(ish) albums, Centro-matic/South San Gabriel remain mainstays of Texas music. In that time they've found acceptance beyond the Lone Star State – namely SSG in Europe – but they've always been very much a "Texas" band, having danced the "Denton-Austin-Houston Three Step" thousands of times, and never having strayed far away from home for long. With such feelings of familia
A few years ago country singer Deana Carter had a hit song called “Did I Shave My Legs For This?” According to The “Atlanta Journal-Constitution” on Friday, Atlanta Hawks coach Mike Woodson may do his own version of it called “Did I Shave My Head For This?” Apparently getting the Hawks to the NBA Post [...]

Here’s a head-scratcher for you: Let’s say that you’re a general manager of a young, up-and-coming NBA franchise that has a good nucleus of players that have nothing but upside. Let’s also say that this team overachieved by taking arguably the best team in the NBA to a seventh game to finally lose. Then [...]
So the Hawks and Celtics round 1 matchup was a hard fought one. The Hawks said die even when they were down 0-2. Despite their best efforts they couldn’t take one game in Boston and the Celtics ended the series convincingly yesterday.
Tensioned boiled over as the Hawks were getting their asses handed to them and [...]

The “Atlanta Journal-Constitution” Monday reported that the Atlanta Hawks biggest priority this off-season will be the re-signing of their two upcoming free agents Josh Childress and Josh Smith. Both players will become free agents after the season is over. Both players want to stay with the team, as they both feel the team is on the [...]
The Boston Celtics played hard all season for home-court advantage in the playoffs. They probably just didn’t expect to need it this soon.
The Celtics are back in Boston and hoping to finish off the pesky Atlanta Hawks on Sunday in Game 7. It’s the last first-round series still going—a bit of a shock considering that [...]
That was the team that won three games and forced a winner-take-all game seven? It’s amazing how hard it is to win when the officials don’t put you on the line forty times. After going to the line forty seven times in game six, and winning the game from the charity stripe, the Hawks ran into a group of officials who weren’t willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, weren’t willing to let their own whistles decide the outcome of the game, and didn’t feel the need to keep the Hawks in the game. Not to harp on the officiating, but thirty-six points were scored at the free throw line in game six by the Hawks. They only scored eleven in game seven. This Hawks team was scrappy, but they weren’t nearly as good as Doc Rivers and the officiating crews made them look in Atlanta. Th
The Associated Press reported Saturday that Atlanta Hawks forward Marvin Williams chances of playing in game seven are dicey after injuring his left knee Friday night. Williams who led the Hawks in their 103-100 victory over Boston in game six with 18 points, sprained his left knee after colliding with Celtics forward Paul Pierce in the fourth [...]
The Hawks have done a decent job in their bid to be this years Golden State Warriors. They’ve given the leagues best team all they can handle and last night was no exception. The Hawks again beat the Celtics at home 103-100 to force a pivotal game 7 in Boston.
During the game, Paul Pierce fouled [...]

The Celtics mystique is packed back up in mothballs, where it had been for 22 years along with some old “I Hate L.A.” bumper stickers and a bolt of cloth they used to make the Championship banners with. The Leprechaun is beaten and bloody, he has a black eye, and a missing front tooth, his [...]
The Hawks beat the Celtics 103-100 to tie the series 3-3 and force a game seven. I really didn't think they had it in them, but they most certainly do. They played big in the money quarter and Boston couldn't buy a basket for a large part of the fourth. Johnson was mostly contained on offense, but used his experience to benefit his squad.Mike Woodson is now pondering about how his team can get a win in Boston. It seems impossible, but they've got to come out and stun the crowd. Force the tempo and don't get intimidated by the Boston intensity. Atlanta has proved themselves to be more than just a band of kids with just two guys with playoff experience; they play really hard. Woodson deserves credit for getting them out of the shell shock they appeared to be in after the first two games.I ha
We've received a lot of email about our post on the dangers hawks may post to us pups. Some say that hawks have no interest in dogs, and others say that there really is a danger! So we wanted to share some more info to hopefully keep it more safe for us pups out there.Basically what it boils down to is that dogs could potentially be prey for some hawks, especially if there are no other food sources around that appeal to them, like rodents, rabbits and small squirrels - and it depends upon the type of hawk and where they are located. Some hawks will only prey on catches in the 2 lbs range, but other hawks have been known to capture prey up to 10 lbs. or even a bit more.Bottom line? It's just always best to weigh on the side of caution, supervise your pup, and if you see a hawk circling high

After five games, two upset losses, many inexcusable non-calls against the Hawks, even more inexcusable calls against the Celtics, and many, many beers, I've come to the conclusion that NBA officials must have put a significant amount of money on the Atlanta Hawks. How else do you explain it?Atlanta has taken 45 more free throws than the Celtics (155 to 110). The Celtics have been called for 21 more personal fouls than the Hawks. Even in a Celtics’ victory, the officiating was so excruciatingly bad that the game was hard to watch. Do the officials want to keep the series close? Did David Stern decide that getting the fans back in Atlanta was better for the NBA than a Celtic sweep?Click here to read the rest of the article...
Ever since I can remember there has been quite a few hawks that frequent our neighborhood. Mum has always wondered if they would pose a danger to me, since I'm not that big, you know. We've seen it circle and circle our yard, swooping lower and lower, sailing on their IQAir, but not once has it tried to get me, luckily! We were curious about what hawks are really interested in, so we did some research. Here is a great bit of info from another concerned pup owner:From the Star-Tribune in Minneapolis-St. Paul:Q: Help! I can't even take my dog outside anymore! We live in Edina and the red-tailed hawk population seems to have exploded. A while back, I was in the yard with my full-grown but only 4½-pound dog and a very large red-tail passed right over us. I quickly scooped up my little dog and tr
OK, let’s face it. Not many people would have predicted that Atlanta and Boston would even be playing Wednesday night, let alone playing a pivotal game in the series. Maybe you figured the C’s would drop one in Atlanta and would wrap it up in Game 5 at home. Not so fast sports fan. The Hawks stumbled out of the gate, but after some homecooking they have more than got their footing. They are playing with confidence. They are playing with the best two players on the floor (Josh Smith and Joe Johnson) over the past two games. Joe Johnson took over in Game 4 scoring 20 4th Quarter points. Now, all of the sudden the pressure is on Boston. If Atlanta can steal Game 5 in Boston, they would have two chances (one at home) to seal the deal and pull off the histori

The Celtics went down to Atlanta a confident team up 2-0 in their best of seven series against the Hawks. The Hawks limped home beaten, bruised, and counted out.Forty eight minutes later, the Hawks are right back in the series. For forty eight minutes in Atlanta, it was the Celtics that didn’t have any answers. It was the Hawks that had answers for every question the Celtics threw at them. For forty eight minutes in Atlanta, it was the Hawks draining open shots from three point land and the Celtics missing their defensive assignments. For forty eight minutes in Atlanta, the Hawks were the better team. And when the game was over, they celebrated their nine point victory as if it just won them a national championship. Unfortunately for Al Horford and company, this isn't college anymore

If you’re going to call out the opposing team’s fans, the least you could do is not get repeatedly schooled by a second year point guard. If you’re going to claim that Kendrick Perkins has no right to question your game one performance, the least you could do is not follow it up with the same type of performance in game two.Mike Bibby succeeded in doing one thing—he gave the Boston crowd something to boo. God knows the Celtics haven’t given them reason to this season.Rajon Rondo continued his impressive playoff debut, filling up the stat sheet with twelve points, six rebounds, eight assists, and four steals. Kevin Garnett took control of Wednesday night's game early and never let go, finishing with his fifteenth straight playoff double-double (nineteen points and ten rebounds).

San Francisco, CA ... Aaron Hawks captures a world that combines illusions and sexuality in settings that are reminiscent of his own childhood meanderings. “As a die-hard music fan it’s easy to get disgusted with a lot of the mainstream heavy bands that have taken this aggressive mindset, a lot of the Linkin Park stuff and nü-metal,” says writer/director/producer John Srebalus. “On the other side of the coin, there is this very healthy community on an underground
I'm finding it very hard to believe that the Canucks could play this poorly in such an important game. Pick any category in today's game and I bet the Hawks beat us in it. "They wanted it more than we did," Canucks captain Markus Naslund said. "They came out hard and we didn't respond to them at all." When someone mentioned to Naslund that the Canucks only had 10 shots on goal Naslund replied:"Ten shots on goal? That's embarrassing," he added. "Considering where we are, we should be more desperate than they are."Well Nazzy, YOU are the damned captain. You can stand in front of the press every postgame and cry that the team isn't desperate enough. But that doesn't cut it. I want to see results on the ice from the leader. For God's sake, they may as well put the "c" on Kesler, who, along wit
What in the World is Mike Bibby Doing in the Hawks? Before his injury, he averaged 13.5 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists....Kings should have kept him as he was doing very well playing alongside Martin and Garcia. They were hard to beat. Although, Bibby will do just fine and even better by raising his numbers in assists because the Hawks have some high flyers and players who can shoot the ball. He will bring veteran leadership and take the Hawks far in this season's playoffs. Nuff said.

After an eye popping LeBron James basketball performance on Tuesday against Kevin Durant and the Sonics the Cavs moved on to Atlanta to face the Hawks. In what should have been a Cleveland victory turned out to be nothing more than a disappointing 81-90 loss even after LeBron James basketball afforded his team 31 points. Not one player can win a game but I bet LeBron James pictures a different outcome of last night's Hawk attack. LeBron rallied late with 14 points in the fourth but it was not enough to stop the deluge of shots that Joe Johnson made that gained him 29 points by the end of the game.
What is ridiculous about last night is that LeBron James basketball in the fourth quarter scored more points than every individual player on his team the whole game. The third quarter was where
My personal review:As a skater, I was really excited when I knew that this game was coming to my WII console and I decided to try it, then I realised that this game was even better than what I expected it to be! The gameplay is very well created and there are plenty of different moves to be trained and raised as much as possible. Let's hope that next year's release gets even better than this one, until then, let's play this game until the end! Enjoy it my friends....Gamespot review: With the core developers of the Tony Hawk franchise off and skating on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the other console versions have been turned over to different developers. Those developers are Page 44 Studios, who have turned out a version of Tony Hawk's Proving Ground for the PlayStation 2 and the Wii. As with many multiplatform games, the different versions operate on multiple tiers. The PS3 and 360 obviously had the most work put into them, and the games were clearly designed for tho
It appears that Hawks Hospital is almost empty for the time being (except Rene Bourque and Kevyn Adams, and possibly Jason Williams). With Martin Havlat and Patrick Sharp back in the lineup, the Hawks are looking deep up front and are a serious scoring threat still. The last time these 2 teams played, Luongod and the Nucks shut them out 2-0 and Luongo went on a shutout spree. But Sharp and Havlat were not in the lineup. In fact, both Havlat and Sharp returned the next game. Chicago has played 3 games since we shut them out and have obliterated 2 opponents: Tampa Bay (5-1) and Phoenix (6-1), and lost to the Blues 3-1 in their last game on Saturday night. In those 3 games:-Some kid defenceman named Byfuglien had 4 goals and 2 assists, including a hatrick.-Patrick Kane had 5 assists.-Jonathan Toews had 2 goals and 2 assists-Patrick Sharp had 1 goal and 3 assists-Martin Havlat had 2 goals and 1 assist. It's amazing how much confidence Havlat brings to the Hawks team.I think it's fair to s

"That was a pretty easy one," said Morrison of his winning goal. "They have to respect Sami's shot and he made a great pass. Sami's friendship dues are in the mail." That was a sweet play indeed. Tonight's game was decent for a 2-0 game. Vancouver outshot the Hawks 29-27. Luongo and Lalime were terrific. At least Luongo's shutout tonight was a winning shutout, unlike the OT loss to Edmonton a while back. The Hawks' top line of Toews, Kane and Ruutu looked out of sync, and were kept in check quite well. Kesler made an ass of Kane in the first period by checking him ass over tea kettle into the Hawks' bench. Gad, I could watch that one over and over again. The one great chance that Toews had was stopped cold by a brilliant Luongo save late in the 3rd period.I was disappointed by the Hawks' effort. I expected more. But hats off to the Canucks for playing a great game...THEIR game and stopping this Hawks team in its tracks.-Is Ryan Kesler any good or what? He continues to excel. More
From Canucks.com: Chicago (12-8-1) is bunched within a tightly packed Western Conference after finishing with just 71 points in 2006-07. The Blackhawks haven't made the playoffs since 2001-02, when they lost in the first round, and their struggles against Vancouver go back to that season.Since a five-game winning streak in the series, the Blackhawks are 3-10-4 with one tie versus the Canucks (11-9-2). Chicago ended an eight-game losing streak in Vancouver with a 3-0 win on Feb. 7, but went 1-2-1 in last season's series, failing to score on any of its 20 power-play opportunities.Well, you can disregard those stats for the most part. This is the new and improved Hawk team....finally. It seemed like they really missed Ruutu and Sharp last night, both out with flu-like symptoms. Sharp leads the team with 11 goals, and Ruutu is the gritty 3rd guy on the top line with Toews and Kane. Sharp and Ruutu are questionable for tonight.Amazingly, Sharp leads the NHL with 5 shorthanded goals. Rene
By: Al Terry Atlanta Hawks tickets are a sure-fire way to enjoy some really hot basketball action. The Hawks have had a tumultuous career over their fifty year existence, dipping to highs and lows which carried their fans with them. However, the Hawks have always been a team that plays with spirit, which is why they are always such a treat to watch. The Atlanta Hawks are currently based in Atlanta, Georgia and play in the National Basketball Association. They are part of the Southeast Division and the Eastern Conference. The Hawks' home turf is Philips Arena and they have one championship win to their name along with four conference titles and fourteen division wins.Shifts And Slow StartsThings did not start out well for the franchise- the team was born in 1946 and was initially based in the tri-city area. When the NBA was officially formed, the team was moved to Wisconsin and despite having a strong line-up they were one of the worst teams in the league. In 1955, the team was moved ye
Chicago, who has not been in the playoffs since 2002, are finally starting to like like a team that can make it somewhere. In the last few games I've seen them play, they have so much composure, even if they are down 2 goals against a favored team. Tonight in Toronto was a shining example. The Leafs were up 3-1 at the start of the 3rd, but were down 2 men. The Hawks made them pay and then absolutely stole this game from them, scoring 5 goals in the 3rd. Chicago was only shorthanded once all night. The Leafs: 7. Chicago bagged 4 PP goals to make them pay.I just can't believe how impressive the Toews-Kane-Ruutu line looks. They dominate the play when on the ice. They are 19, 18 and 24 years old respectively.Toews: drafted 3rd overall by the Hawks in 2006Kane: drafted 1st overall by the Hawks in 2007.Ruutu: drafted 9th overall by the Hawks in 2001.Duncan Keith: drafted 54th overall in 2002.Kane and Toews are on pace for 80 points or more this season. It's early. The misery for Hawks fan
Before we get too far a disclaimer to keep in mind: “Several current and former officials, as well as outside experts, spoke on the condition of anonymity because the intelligence surrounding the Israeli strike remains highly classified.” The “intelligence” is “highly classified,” so how do they know anything and are they worth quoting or basing an article on? Now on the chosen colors representing the bad and the good. According to The NY Times: “A sharp debate is under way in the Bush administration about the significance of the Israeli intelligence that led to last month’s Israeli strike inside Syria, according to current and former American government officials.” This debate revolves around intelligence provided by Israel, which led that nation to its decision to bomb a location in Syria believed to be the location of Bashar al-Assad’s nascent nuclear program; spermatozoon in the test tube courtesy of stature lacking Kim of Korea. The toilet Paper sees signs of a split within the Bush administration on Iran policy and that language in the President’s speech on Thursday “reflected an intense and continuing struggle between factions within his administration over how aggressively to confront Iran.” This “struggle” has been ongoing between Secretary of State Rice and her State Department diplomatic mentality and Vice President Cheney’s office. Further distinguishing between the two approaches is The Times description of State and Rice reflecting: “the more diplomatic view advocated by the State Department, which has pushed for a more restrained tone in America’s dealings with the world in general, and Iran in particular.” And the VP’s office as: “Mr. Cheney and hawks in his office, however, have become increasingly frustrated with the slow pace of progress in curbing Iran’s nuclear ambitions.” One side the doves, the other hawks. Interestingly, the “dove” appro
SAN DIEGO – This is all I need to know about the Seattle Seahawks: Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck are healthy, happy and eager to get to this season. That works for me. Shaun Alexander is happy and the Seahawks’ outlook is healthy. (AP) Because as long as Alexander and Hasselback stay in the lineup — which they did not a year ago — the Seahawks are a threat to win the NFC. OK, so everyone is chasing Chicago. But I remember the last time the more…
Ezra Klein over at The American Prospect recently wrote an article called "Let's Get Serious:What do liberal hawks actually want to do regarding Iran?" that has stirred an interesting cross blog debate amongst moderates. Allow me to sort of abridge part of the debate in a Frankenpost before chiming in. Mr Klein criticizes liberal hawks for being intentionally vague regarding how to deal with Iran "in their desire to avoid responsibility for their pro-war stance on Iraq and their enabling rhetoric towards a potential showdown with Iran." as Tutakai at Militant Moderates put it.According to fellow Donklephant blogger Kevin Sullivan "Ironically, Klein seems to confront hawkish vagueness with vagueness. He insinuates that there's a cottage industry of "liberal hawk" scholars supporting the invasions of Iraq and Iran, however he only cites one example of such. If the "liberal hawk" has become such a common phenomenon, where are their think-tanks and periodicals? If they are in such loc
The Canadiens have rid themselves of one headache today, trading Sergei Samsonov to the Hawks in exchange for Jassen Cullimore and Tony Salmelainen. Cullimore is a large (6'5", 244 pounds), reliable stay-at-home type of defenceman who won a Stanley Cup with the Lightning. He had 7 points in 65 games last season. Salmelainen is a 26 year-old Fin who was drafted 41st overall in 1999 by the Oilers. He had 17 points in 57 games with the Hawks last season and 55 points in 53 games the previous year in Helsinki. A funny story about Salmelainen (from Wiki): Salmelainen also made headlines during the 2005-06 season when he was sent off during a game against HPK, and threw a trashcan down the corridor to the dressing rooms in anger. After narrowly missing goaltender Jan Lundell, the trashcan accidentally hit his team's bus driver, who was injured in the face. Salmelainen was interrogated by the police and received a two-game suspension. On a positive note, the 5'9", 185 pound Salmelainen has
American politics is characterized sometimes as a continuum, and the traditional strategy to become the leader of a party is to run first to that party's outer extreme, and then at some point shift direction and run back to the center. Thus, a Democrat will appeal to the left wing during the primaries and after securing the nomination, start to sound more moderate in an effort to appeal to the broad center of the electorate. The converse is true for Republicans; they run first to the right and then to the center. All very conventional and familiar to us all.So, the spat between Barack Obama and John McCain over the future of the Iraq war can be viewed through two lenses. The first is that these are two legislators having a debate over the best choice for the future policy of the country -- in other words, they're doing their jobs as Senators. That's certainly a fine way to look at it, but I'm far too cynical to suggest that's what's really going on, which is why I reminded y
Neil Young - Hawks & Doves(1980)320kbpsFollowing the triumph of Rust Never Sleeps, Hawks & Doves benefited from the enormous critical goodwill Neil Young had amassed, though fans and critics nevertheless were baffled by its set of obscure acoustic and country-tinged songs. The seven-plus-minute "The Old Homestead" (copyright 1974) was interpreted by some as an allegory for Young's relationship to CSNY, perhaps because that was the only way to make any sense of the most mysterious Young lyric since "The Last Trip to Tulsa." In retrospect, now that it's known Young was distracted by domestic medical concerns while working on the album, its theme of perseverance in the face of adversity, both in a personal context of family commitment ("Stayin' Power," "Coastline"), and in a national context of hard work and patriotism ("Union Man," "Comin' Apart at Every Nail," "Hawks & Doves") seems more apparent, as does the sense that Young may have been trying to fulfill his recording contrac
Renee Montgomery and Kalana Greene led the nation’s fifth ranked team to a 62-36 win over the University of Hartford Hawks. For the Huskies, Montgomery had 16 points and Greene added 14 to the cause. They were the only two in double figures.
It was an ugly game in the first half for UCONN as the Hawks led most of the way until Renee Montgomery tied the game up at 18. From that point on, the Lady Huskies never looked back. They actually scored 18 pts in a row until the Hawks scored in the second half. The win moves them to 10-0 on the season.
Notes and Observations:
UCONN was without the services of Meghan Gardler and Brittany Hunter tonight. Hunter took the night off to rest her troublesome right knee that she had reaggravated against Oakland. Meghan Gardler missed the game after she showed back up to campus after the Christmas break with her elbow in a sling. She was “rough housing” with some friends and injured her elbow. It isn’t serious and she’s exp
ATLANTA - Just as Speedy Claxton was returning, the Atlanta Hawks lost Marvin Williams to the same injury. Williams, the No. 2 overall pick in last year's NBA draft, broke a bone in his left hand during practice Thursday and will be out up to eight weeks...
From The Guardian, one of England's many tabloids, we have an article regarding the unpopularity of Mahmoud "Momo" Ahmadinejad. According to the author, Ali Ansari: (Ahmadinejad) "seems to be reaping the rewards of unfulfilled promises bestowed with little attention to economic realities" The article itself touches on economic realities that Momo ignored, as well as his stance in the face of the "Great Satan's" bullying. The piece does not say anything of the like, but it may as well. Bottom line is that the only thing that might save Momo, is the Hawks in the U.S. government: "There can be little doubt that US hawks will interpret recent events as proof that pressure works, and that any more pressure will encourage the hawks further. Yet the reality is that while Ahmadinejad has been his own worst enemy, the US hawks are his best friends. Ahmadinejad's demise, if it comes, will have less to do with the international environment and more with his own
